The Valhalla Murders (2019)
Sloppy
After enjoying (En)Trapped, we hoped this Icelandic police series would be equally charming. Although the storyline has potential, the script is extremely sloppy. Unlikely actions, strange reactions, faulty continuity. Very disappointing. We stopped watching halfway episode 5 when the stupidity became unbearable.
The writers should take a leaf from the book of the other series, or in fact any police series (Sweden, Denmark, Finland all had sublime series, but most American ones could serve as an example as well).
The acting is OK, and if they want a few of the characters to become unlikeable, it worked. But that script.....
Bros (2022)
Funny and in-your-face
Bros is a fabulous, fast-paced, non-censured, in-your-face, funny, introspective, predictable, sexy rom-com. The number of hilarious references and cameos is amazing (although Deborah messing and Harvey Fierstein had more than just cameos, the former playing herself - "IT'S A CHARACTER").
The gym scenes and Grindr dates are hilarious. Luke has buffed up (he may actually be on roids) into a shining bulk of muscles and Billy is sexy too, including his little bird's bath.
The meeting with "Lawrence Grape" is a highlight.
It may be a bit much for Americans to hear the word gay so often, let alone "your big dick penetrating my tight anus" but it's all in a day's work: Billy & Luke bring it quite naturally.
What's up?
Cypher (2021)
Worthy of Oscar for Bad Acting
The storyline started out OK, but went haywire quickly (the whole de-Cypher plot is weird), but the incredibly bad acting is on the level of a 3rd rate Brazilian soap, supported bad a script and awful directing. I am amazed that a production like this shows such a consistent line-up of toe curling actors. I fought my way through the first 3 episodes, but gave up in the fourth. Thumbs down!
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Lowlight!
What a lowlight of new comedy production. Platitudes, less than mediocre acting, inane screen writing, predictable and boring story lines. A waste of time for the viewers and a waste of money from the producers.
Gayby (2012)
Fun!
This movie was unexpectedly much more fun that I had anticipated. I watched it because of Gus K's hot boyfriend Matt Wilkas and expected a kind of amateur B-movie. In fact all actors were pretty good, some were even amazing, like Nelson, the uber-gay friend of Matt (he is also called Matt in the movie). The bitchy seen between Nelson and Jamie is an absolute highlight!
The dialogues were funny and fast, the storyline not spectacular but good enough. I can really recommend this movie for a night of laugh-out-loud fun. And hot men.
