Not too shabby..let me explain...
5 March 2007
I've always had an interest in this subject matter since I was a kid, I had a few incidents, I'll explain in a moment.

The show is pretty intriguing. I like the way it's presented with the actors, real "victims" and narrator. Production value is top-notch for Discovery which actually when I think about it, is a pretty damn good network. The only problem I have is with the spastic editing before and after commercial breaks. Hell, even during the show the ghost flashing gets carried away. Not so much detracting from the story but getting annoying (like this review).

OK, I like this show because I had a few experiences with a ghost in my Mom's cousins house in the mid-70's. I was only 7-8 yrs. old. One night, rocking chair rocking by itself. Sounds clichéd? Yes, I totally agree but it happened when I woke up in the middle of the night and my sister was asleep next to me. Secondly, my sister and I with my second-cousins watched as a few toys levitated and spun.

I forgot most of this until I remembered the rocking chair incident years later and called my Ma's cousin. I recounted the story and she said in a very nonchalant way, "Oh, I forgot about him". Apparently he "tried" to spook the family and played many pranks. A levitating head at the foot of her bed whereas she scolded him saying, "shoo..shoo!". LOL. She is a down to earth Baptist from Battle Creek, Michigan. Many stories, email me if you want detail.

But hey, great show!

This story blows...book and movie(s)...
3 March 2007
Hey look, deal with it, there are much better portrayals of the hardship of black America than this. Although I think this story is weak, my criticism is focused on the poor execution of the story, which I have mentioned, blows.

This was made in the mid-80's and is horrible in the music/score department. It's funny to see Oprah as a latter-day crack-whore type.

The scene where Bigger stuffs Elizabeth McGovern into the incinerator. Pure classic cinema. First off, I don't care how drunk you are, you will react to 1200F degree flame (no matter how bad your acting). But they really milked that scene...it was comical. I'll tell you what though, I had great satisfaction in seeing Elizabeth McGovern burn in a faux death; she annoys me.

Rudy Youngblood sells this movie.
10 December 2006
Yep. Just saw it tonight and I'll tell you what; despite the Polish dude next to me translating ad naseum every word to his girlfriend, it was a great flick.

I like this kid Rudy Youngblood. He's a virtual unknown but he plays it well. Hell, I like him better that Andrew Wyeth or Socrates. I want him to either run the U.N. or become a commander of a U.S. Aircraft Carrier. Seriously though, he play the part well, and though it's not very heady in the speech department, he holds his own in expressions and physical feats. Gibson....hey look, I'm not an anti-semite and I could care less for what he said when he was drunk...I've said crazy meaningless and hateful stuff when I was drunk, who cares. People are too PC these days; it's sickening anyway, give the cat a break, he made a great movie here, give him his propers. This is the kind of movie Hollywood should be making more of. You know what though, the violence is over-rated. It's not too bad. If you kind of like the violence angle, the best comes when the 60 minute chase scene comes up and our boy Rudy gets into the thick of the jungle. He starts to go Rambo on the hunting tribe's asses when he is in his neck of the forest and it starts to be a combo of "First Blood" and Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" (no pun, but that was kind of clever lol). Like I said, I personally, I think the gore and violence is overrated, but I wouldn't take my kid to see this. Gosh no. Visually, it's stunning. This must have been a fantastically hard movie to make from the set designers perspective. Mel made a very good movie and it's no dud, absolutely worth a view!

Perhaps The Funniest Movie Ever..
24 November 2006
I'm kind of a comedy snob. Growing up in Chicago, the home of Second City and homestead of our comedic Canadian brothers and sister, I grew up with a deep appreciation of comedy. Been to many a comedy club and seen many a shitty act. Main influences: classic Jack Benny, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, SCTV, SNL (74-87)..this list goes on. Comedic acts are the one thing; they can be spontaneous and brilliant. However, it's very hard to put that comedy and energy on film. Cohen has done this here; it's a masterpiece on several levels. How foolish we Americans can be with our racist views in the camera lens..how backwards other parts of the world can be (although characterized) and how we really don't know much about each other when it boils down.

It was the only movie that I saw since "Blazing Saddles" that the audience and myself were just laughing out loud from minute to minute, joke to joke..Haven't seen that forever. And some of the stuff in that movie was just outrageous and shocking. And my sense of humor is way out there. Cohen is a genius, and not for the shock value, but for the fact that he just made a character that leaves us thinking about humanity and how we view each other in the fish eyed lens the media and the internet. It was hilarious and I highly recommend it to Americans esp. but to anyone who has a sense of humor. It will make you see how stupid humanity really is in the long run. It's a healthy dose of humility for us Americans and also a chance to laugh at the human race in General.

Not a great drive-in flick for kids, but a great tragic movie for adults.
24 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I happened to see this movie at a drive-in when I was 6 yrs. old. I don't know what the hell my parents were thinking taking a 6 yr. old (me) and my 4 yr. old sister in an Oldsmobile Vista-Cruiser station wagon. Sure, we were real comfy with the seats folded down lying on blankets and pillows munching on popcorn, but wow, this movie really had an effect on me, and it wasn't real good. As a young child, I was able to grasp the concept of a deep love between Buster and Billie but when things began to get ugly, it really freaked me out. All I remember after Buster's full frontal shot was Billie getting raped and then her being wrapped in cloth or mummified in some way (this was 28 yrs. ago so the visual details elude me) and then Jan Michael Vincent doing some kind of crazy karate move where he flips some dude with his arm on a pool table and killing a few guys. I have to tell you this shook my 70's innocent Disney perspective on life to the core! When we got home and I was in my pajamas, brushing my teeth, I started crying my eyes out. My mom came in and said, "Oh, sweetie, why are you crying? Was it because Billie died at the end of the movie?' I said, "No". But...umm ya...hell ya, it was because you subjected me to this terrible rape and murder that would be hard even for an adult!! Again, WTF were they thinking (incidentally, I will make them both read this review). Wow, glad I got that out of my system! BTW, hope I don't seem too harsh on my parents, after all, they seemed to think it was "OK" to let me stand up in the middle of the front seat in the blue Chevy Chevelle whilst speeding away and lie down in the back window when I was "sleepy". WTF was up with my parents and most parents who owned automobiles until the early 80's!?!? LOL. Anyway, don't let your 6 yr. olds see this movie (and don't let them sleep near the back windshield) sheesh!

Garrison Keillor Continues to Amaze..
21 October 2006
It's unfortunate that most peeps don't know who he is. I got turned on to him about 20 years ago (I'm 38) by this oddball guy from the Czech Republic who punched me in the face because he thought I insulted his wife at a Christmas party. He was drunk and I lost a tooth, but hey, this old bast hooked me up with some of the best radio! LOL!

G.K. has the best little radio show this side of the Atlantic. He's also a prolific writer, and a damn fine one! If you like his yarns that he spins about Lake Wobegon, you should check out his books on the fictional town. I mean this dude just invented this whole world with plausible and interesting characters born out of his weekly radio show.

Garrison, you the man. Oh ya, lol, the review. It's a great little spin on an average radio production. You get an angel reaping a few souls and a funny portrait of Guy Noir by Kevin Kline (who, in the funniest scene with the angel walking into the restaurant, starts pointing at everyone, wink wink nudge nudge her, right? not me? him right?" Great stuff!

It will be a sad day when G.K. hangs up the radio mic. A lot of it is cornball, a lot of it classic, great music, but it's familiar and fun. I hope G.K. lives to be a million and does radio for another 15 years ;)

Rushmore (1998)

Most underrated movie of the late 90's
12 October 2006
This is a love it or hate it kind of movie. I've watched this movie with people with a like-minded sense of humor and they always have a polarized reaction to it. Love it or hate it. Personally, it's in my top 10 movies. Max Fischer is the quintessential oddball kid. A phenom of extracurricular activities but still gets bad grades. He lacks social skills yet is bold enough to say what's on his mind. The genius of this film is how Anderson writes dialogue for his characters as adults but has kids saying the lines. Dirk steals the scenes as he confronts Bill Murray and spits on his car, plays a gun touting nun in Max's version of "Serpico" and is the cigarette smoking point man in the final play. Anderson has a great talent for having his characters be odd, yet still plausible. He can really balance that mix, yet still tell a story from his skewed reality. I hope I'm making sense because I just had six shots of whiskey and two Benydril and am nodding off. LOL. Anyway, this movie is about the pain of growing up, the pain of loneliness, the happiness of friendship, the ugliness that we are all capable of and ultimately for Max, redemption.

The scene where Max grabs a hold of the yellow kite and starts to get it all back together is great. Back dropped by Cat Steven's "The Wind", it's a wonderful meeting of film and music. Anderson has a knack for that. Great soundtrack all around. The closing scene is equally terrific. If you hate this movie, trust me, I understand...I hated it too. It wasn't until I saw it a second time that I saw it in a different light. It's a pretty special movie about growing up and forgiveness. If you happen to rent this, try to get the Criterion Edition; a lot of great extras in there. One last thought, Bill Murray gives a great, great performance as well as Olivia Williams, who, IMO, should had gotten an Oscar nod as well. OK, sleepy time...zzzz

Yes, Dear (2000–2006)
Makes me want Iran to obtain Nukes (to bomb this show)!
23 March 2006
This show is funny, only because it actually succeeded as a sitcom. I honestly think that all of the actors on the show have talent; I mean, I've seen them be funny in a variety of shows. The bottom line is, this writing blows! Maybe it's a combo of direction, writing and production. But inevitably, it's sucks. Again, I'd like to point out that the actors are actually pretty good (from other shows)......but this material....bites.

If they want to make this a good show, bump it up an hour, write it up with a lot more bite and lose the dips*hits in the studio audience that laugh at every little nuance just because their visiting from Ohio and it's their first time on a studio set.

Chappelle's Show (2003–2006)
The Don Rickles of his generation.
9 March 2006
This is not to say that he is an insult comic, far from it, he is a creative sketch writer and comedian! The Don Rickles observation comes from his comedic smashing of racial barriers and with him and Neal Brennan (a white dude and friends for years). If you look at the first two seasons as a whole, and I mean REALLY look at it, these young guys were seeking comedy for the sake of comedy; just knowing what they know and I think on an unconscious level, breaking down those barriers.

If you listen to the audio commentary of the first 2 seasons, you see how these guys relate, and on a comedic level, they get along fluidly.

I knew Chappelle was going somewhere when I saw him on Conan O'Brien years ago. He has energy and is hell quick on his feet when making an improvised joke. I'm sort of a comedy geek and in my opinion, Chappelle is probably the brightest comedian to shine post year 2000. I hope he works things out because it would be a shame to see such talent wasted. On the other hand, D.C. & N.B. have given us a boat load of comedy that most comedy shows within 10 years couldn't deliver even if they had 2 years on the air!

Thanks Dave and Neal! Good luck and thanks a million for the laughs!!! It was up there with SCTV, prime SNL ('87-92') and Mr. Show. High accolades indeed! Most of the funniest/rawest/truest comedy I have seen in my lifetime!!! Adios.

Desert Island Movie Keeper !!!
30 November 2005
This is perhaps one of the most under-rated, yet best sci-fi/horror movies ever made. It's hard to believe that this movie is almost 25 years old but it has aged well and looks as fresh as ever.

John Carpenter has made some good films here and there but made A lot of dogs. However, sometimes...and I mean once in a lifetime kind of "sometimes"...everything will click and you got yourself one damned fine film. This is Carpenter's "click".

Ingredients: A great premise story by the late John W. Campbell Jr., an absolutely spectacular ensemble cast who, even back then was somewhat unknowns but they all cut their teeth on the stage. I mean really, Richard Dysart, W. Brimley, Peter Maloney, D. Moffat, Richard Masur and Tom Waites, all damn fine stage actors. Sorry to name drop but the producers either were brilliant and/or extremely lucky to pull off this cast for an ensemble piece about paranoia. Great cast! And to really put the icing on the cake they have the edgy special effects guy, Rob Bottin, who was really just a kid at the time pulling off amazing special effects (yes, this is before CGI, kiddies) with a budget that I use to buy groceries with. He was years ahead of his time.

The litmus test for me was to show this to my 15 yr. old son and a few of his buddies one Friday night. They were glued to the TV; from the opening scene where the Norwegians were shooting the wolf from the helicopter to the end scene where Mac and Childs make veiled paranoid small talk amidst the carnage that was once their camp. They loved it and were blown away when I told them how old it was, but I think the scene with Mac and that lame chess computer sort of dates it. LOL.

If you watch this on DVD, make sure you see the Collector's Edition from Universal. 5.1 sound with bullets whizzing by your head. This would be one of the five movies that I would take to my deserted island bungalow. Heh.

I guess we could call it a classic period piece by now...
18 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has certainly gained cult status and nothing I could say would persuade any reader to watch it because if you are reading this review you are one of the 99% of the people who absolutely love this flick.

Growing up in the Chicago area my dad was the manager of a bowling alley for 30 years and I was a bowling alley rat as a kid. This film is especially funny to me because I remember characters like "The Dude" and Walter Sobczak drinking and bowling all the time. A lot of wing nuts hang at the lanes, which to me, made the story even more plausible. LOL. I remember the late 80's & early 90's and they captured the ambiance of the bowling alley crowd perfectly. I adore this movie.

The movie is hilarious but this is something you already know. I have a soft spot in my heart for the scene after Donnie has the heart attack and the next scene is a really cool pan of the lanes and the bowlers as Townes Van Zandt pines the Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers" live as a backdrop; a really great combination of great Coen brothers and great music. Sadly, Townes Van Zandt died a year before this came out, which makes me wonder if they put that song in there as a tribute to him, and also fitting with Donnie's death; both are sad moments.

And remember: "That's right, nobody f*cks with the Jesus!"

This movie is not for the spoon-fed sci-fi crowd, this is a movie that makes you think.
3 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The story has been laid out in many user reviews so I won't re-hash. The first viewing will separate the wheat from the chaff. If you're still up for a second viewing, it will become clearer (and more interesting). On the third viewing, you will hopefully start to get it.

It's a brilliant story and one that I have always been fascinated with; the issues of time travel and the paradoxes that might be created. Causality is something not to be toyed with as our friends Aaron and Abe soon find out as their lives start to spiral out of control near the end.

Shane Carruth offers a great, smart script; that alone would merit this movie an instant classic, but to pull it off while directing, filming, scoring, producing, editing, acting, etc. This isn't a one trick pony. Carruth is somewhat of a phenom, at least in my eyes and many, many others.

This is a movie to watch over and over, until your doubles can get back to watch it again. :P

Good movie about self-revelation, introspection and forgivness.. Great soundtrack too.
9 March 2005
This movie reminds me a lot of "Beautiful Girls" and it's ironic that Natalie Portman is in this movie as well (only grown up and leagal :P) I think this was a great freshman effort on Zach Braff's part. It's not a solid movie, but it isn't too shabby either. The soundtrack was really great; tied scenes in with needle and thread. I've only seen Wes Anderson & Owen Wilson pull this off before in "Rushmore" and " Royal Tenenbaums ", where the songs compliment the movie to such a degree.

Anyway, worth the watch! I hope Braff will be making some movies soon.

"I have so much strength in me you have no idea. I have a love in my life; it makes me stonger than anything you can imagine"
28 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
*** Possible spoilers ***

What a fantastic film! I'm sure you have read the basic premise. This movie is visually gorgeous; amazing camera pans, tight shots, silhouettes, etc.. The lighting is incredible! Anderson continues to make amazing films (and he is still a kid)! The visuals aside, the story and acting are equally perfect! I saw this again for the second time tonight and caught some of the subtle nuances that I missed at the theater.

I forgot that Barry's life changed when he first wore the blue suit (and he wears it thru the whole film).

The semi-truck that passes him while he takes the harmonium from the street appears again when he is on his first date.

The phone booth lights up when he gets a hold of Lena in Hawaii.

I've already forgotten many other subtleties.

Sandler, who I liked on SNL (but hated in many a lame comedy movie), finally shines. He is pretty damn amazing in this movie and has earned my complete respect as an actor. Emily Watson is great too. Both should have had Oscar nods.

I love how Barry's violent, frustrated rage of self-loathing is, toward the end of the film, focused on the people who stand in the way of his true love; his sister at the phone booth in Hawaii, the four blond brothers and the final and amazing anti-climactic scene with the "mattress man". The last two scenes I mentioned are among my favorites. After the four blonde brothers hit Barry's car and he sees Lena's blood spill from her forehead, he steps out of the car and in a very professional, almost business-like manner, proceeds to kick the sh!t out of three of the four brothers. It's a funny scene really because, if you notice, he buttons up his suit before the brief carnage and after he smashes the windows of the pick-up truck, he politely hands the last brother the crowbar. Quite funny! The scene with Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the mattress store is perhaps in my top 5 all time movie scenes. When he goes face to face with the mattress man and says, "I have so much strength in me you have no idea. I have a love in my life; it makes me stonger than anything you can imagine". The matressman has no choice but to tuck tail because Sandler comes off like Superman with a blue suit who is about to put this chump down. And at this point, you don't know what he is capable of, I could swear he could bend steal after this last scene :) Great stuff! Just a great, great scene that plays on the frustration of credit card scams in general, but Barry holding the detached phone throughout the scene makes it equally surreal, funny as hell, and psychotic.

All in all it's a pretty great romance movie (and I hate that genre). I would hesitate to call it a romantic comedy because, though very funny at times, is skewed with tension and violence, but that is what makes it so great! There are many original and quirky elements to this story. Great to see a tragic character like Barry Egan finally see happiness at the end.

For those of you who think this movie was boring or didn't get it. You are either idiots or don't like great movies. 'Nuff said. Keep on rocking, Anderson!

Ed (2000–2004)
It's a long way down...
27 October 2002
The first season was just excellent but after the second and third seasons, I want to burn this show to the ground. This show is on its way out! Has anyone checked the Neilson ratings? Season 2 was in the top 10 and now Season 3 it is off the charts. Timothy Busfield has something to do with it; he's an albatross alright. My favorite show to hate this year was the one where Ed and black-wheelchair-guy are out to best black-wheelchair-guy's arch jitterbug nemesis. LMFAO! This was like something from "Saved by the Bell". Did the show have some poor demographics with minorities? Hey, let's make him black AND disabled! Two birds with one stone. "Ed' is like a flaming car going off the cliff. What's the lesson to be learned here? Don't mess with a good thing. Are you listening, Timmy? NBC, please release Season 1 (only) on DVD, and then bury the other garbage with the nuclear waste in Nevada. What is puzzling about the whole thing is that they felt the need to re-tool the whole show when it started off so well. Answer: moronic execs giving too much input and lackey production team screwing it up ever more. Letterman, who I thought was great until he started to suck in the mid-80's is behind this...Hey Dave, if you still want to preserve your integrety, either re-instate the original writer team or chalk this POS for good. I forgive you for getting lame, this is natural. I grew up watching you in the 80's, you rock...so this could be your redemption, Davey. Think about it, Letterman. You have a great ensenble cast saying very shi*tty lines and acting in equally poor stories, David..not to your worst enemy.. Would you have this on YOUR show??

Very Funny! NOT POLICE ACADEMY! See this one!
19 August 2002
First off, I grew up with those lame cop parody movies. All the Police Academy movies sucked and the Naked Gun movies were barely better. That is why I was so apprehensive to see this. I'm glad I gave it a shot, because the "Broken Lizard" comedy troupe is my new love. After seeing this movie I put them up there with Monty Python, Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show and SCTV. You sense right away that they have been performing and writing together for a long time, their timing is perfect. Very witty dialogue. This movie was alot of fun and I look forward to "Club Dread", their next movie. Don't pan this movie or watch it with any preconceptions about it being a Police Academy rip-off. This is an original, funny movie with more laughs in the first scene than Police Academy 1-8 put together.

Warning: this movie is not for the clueless.
7 August 2002
Warning: Spoilers
What do all the major film critics and people who loved (or at least respected) this movie have that the rest of the bad review writers have? A clue. As one positive reviewer said, it balances on a knife edge between comedy and sadness. That's it in a nutshell. This doesn't necessarily make it a dark comedy; on the contrary, I found a lot of things to celebrate about dysfunctional families. This movie was funny, sweet, and sad; tweaked just right with Anderson's semi-skewed view of the world. If you can't appreciate that, then I feel sorry for you. To call this movie bad, however, just pegs you as...clueless.

** Minor Spoilers ** Anderson & Wilson just keep getting better. I love Anderson's ability to compound an emotional scene with music. He carefully fits in the soundtrack in the most precise moments, it's beautiful. Consider the scene where Margot and Ritchie meet at the bus station with close up shots and Nico's "These Days" as a backdrop. I mean, I hate Nico's music, but it works here. Same goes with Nike Drake's "Fly" and Elliot Smiths "Needle in the Hay". Everything clicks. I love the detail that Anderson puts into his sets. If you pick up the DVD, listen to his commentary track. It's amazing to see all the intricate details that go into his shots. Things you really wouldn't notice nor care about, yet add to the ambiance of the world he creates.

Too Bad...
20 June 2002
Wow, this movie could have been so much more. The scenes were too long, the story lacked focus and in the end I feel like I got cheated out of what should have been a great movie. Will Smith turns in the performance of his life! Did he bulk up or what? Man, he looked pumped. Jon Voight was great and Mario Van Peebles proved that he is not the worst black actor in Hollywood (close though), he did a good job as Malcolm X. Good actors doing great characterizations starring in a poor movie. Too bad.

WTF is up with the camera work?!?
18 June 2002
The only reason I saw this movie was because of Sean Penn, who IMHO, is among the top five American actors around today. I knew what I was getting myself into when I rented this. I mean, a retarded man getting his daughter taken away, this has cry-fest written all over it. There were some moments where I got a little misty eyed, but the emotional scenes started to get too frequent and a little over-gratuitous. I liked the story, that is, WHEN I WASN'T DISTRACTED BY THE CAMERA MOVEMENTS!!! OMG, what was the cinematographer thinking? It had the amature feel of a couple of junior high A/V geeks trying to shoot a homemade Megadeath video; a lot of handheld in the movie, boyo. Quick pans and quick inappropriate zooms. The editing was equally distracting, chop, chop, cha-chop, ch-ch-chop chop, I thought I was going to have a fu*king seizure. That being said, I thought the story was touching enough albeit unrealistic. Who in their right mind would agree to have this guy be the legal guardian of himself, let alone a child? There I go again, hey, this is a movie that you just have to roll with it a little and you'll enjoy it perhaps. Sean Penn carries this movie like Atlas, man, that dude can act. Oh, BTW, I'm sick of some of these reviewers saying his performance didn't seem realistic, like they are some kind of an authority on the mentally retarded. Give me a break. Michelle Pfeiffer is excellent. Everyone else does a decent job too. Oh, and that Dakota Fanning kid, what a little sweetheart and fine actress. They could have really sunk this movie quickly if they had cast some untalented hack kid actor (does anyone remember the kid who played Anakin Skywalker in Phantom Menace?), but she pulls it off. Too bad the only thing holding this movie back is the story, over-indulgent sap and mind-blowing inappropriate camera/editing work. [6/10]

Hmmmm...
8 June 2002
I can't believe some of the reviews praising this movie!?! Put your crack pipes down and de-tox. Despite a great cast and a promising first 15 min., this movie is a POS through and through. It pains me to write this! I've loved Harley Peyton's work on "Twin Peaks". Barry Levinson is most definitely a capable director/writer/producer; however he is the same guy that brought us "Toys". I'd consider this movie "Toys 2". One thing that bugs me is the overuse of the word "quirky" by people in describing and reviewing this film. It had a few screwball moments, but they were lame. Billy Bob's way, way, way-too-much over-the-top hypochondriac scenes, IMO, was just bad comedy. If you want to call bad comedic scenes "quirky" and "wacky", so be it, lame-o.

It's strange how a movie can be the best horror movie of all time, and conversely, be the worst movie of all time. This film really is something, though, I'll give it that. Wow, Torgo and the Master...Manos, Manos, Manos....I'm speechless. Long live MST3K! I miss Joel and the bots! Torgo delivering pizza...that bit rules, in fact, I bet the production of that bit cost more than the production of Manos.

Spy Game (2001)
Barely OK, but at times very goofy and implausible.

Warning: Spoilers
**Spoiler Alert (not really, nothing to spoil)**

I had high hopes for "Spy Game" but the opening scene was a joke. I try not to pick apart a fictional drama-action movie, but man, they made it really hard. At times during the movie my wife and I would just look at each other and say, "WTF?". Case in point: Opening scene, our boy Brad pops a few pills in his mouth, rubs some gel on his hands, palms an electrified fence, blows a breaker, fakes death by electrocution, and then manages to spring a prisoner out of a maximum security jail...all within 6 min.? Huh? I know this is fiction and the film is entitled to some creative license and perhaps, departure from reality, but this was a joke! The other thing that was WAY over the line was Brad Pitt as a hotshot sniper in the Vietnam War. Huh?!?! I'm the same age as Brad Pitt, both born in '63. I don't know about him, but in 1975 I was in Jr. High trying to cop a feel, he apparently was overseas in the bush, 40 clicks outside of Saigon sniping high ranking Vietnamese Generals. Wow. And then in later scenes, as the years go by, he looks even younger!?! In the present scenes, I'm supposed to believe this guy is in his late 40's? It blew my mind. A little makeup isn't going to hurt you, pal. Do it for the film. LOL. Also, Robbie Redford looks like a mummy in the Vietnam shots, and he somehow also seems to look YOUNGER as the years go by! Did these guys run into Ponce De Leon? I'm tired so I won't go into the many other things that bugged me. Overall, it was a semi-decent movie that was in dire need of an editor/director that should have cut about 20-25 minutes of useless footage. Dragged it on, big time! Redford/Pitt did a decent job. The best scenes were with Redford making his superiors look like bungholes. Which begs the question...if Redford's character is such a genius spy-guy, why isn't he running the show over there at his CIA division? Also, he gives up his life savings to knock out the power on some Chinese island for 30 min.?? Why didn't he just let Commander Willy or whatever his name was just use an F-16 to blow out the power plant? And since when does the director of the CIA give orders for missions involving the Armed Forces? I could be wrong about that, but I don't think so. Man, this movie was lame!
