Anak ng macho dancer (2021)
A far cry from the original
Getting some of its original cast from the movie, this still feels flat inspite of the bulges seen on screen. The story, execution and shots are not good. Even I have seen better shots of some YT vloggers in their channels. The director has clearly lost his touch or have remain stagnant with his style and directing coming from his Isa pang bahaghari film. Only Jaclyn Jose is the saving grace of the film. The newcomer Sean still has a lot of things to learn than undressing. Emilio and Rosanna did some decent jobs. Jay Manalo's acting is a far cry from his glory days but passable. The story seemed something you've watched from an old catalog of films reimagined or twisted to fit the "new normal". And what's that last scene with Jay Manalo's son? That would have been a good saving grace for the film where the son seemed tortured that his father gets killed by this guy in front of him but liberating him altogether from the bad dream that is his father?
Better watch some Good BL series available elsewhere tbh.
Magikland (2020)
Great visual effects improvement, lacks depth of story
A lot of great shots and cgi they forgot to focus on doing a great story. Feels like a ripoff of Marvel and Game of Thrones in terms of set design and CGI . Not a bad thing as this shows great improvement in the special effects department. What works for Marvel and GOT are the great stories they offer that you forgot these are all but special effects. CGI blends well with the story that it looks natural which the film fails to deliver.
Overall a passing grade but with the efforts spent on cgi, feels like the movie won't even do a break even in the box office. Hope the film helps promote the Magikland theme park to boost up its sale.
