The Wrong Tenant (2022)
Decent acting. Slow....
This film starts out with a couple who is just trying to make ends meet. A man who grew up wanting his sister to come back home has flashbacks of his childhood. His mother and father argue loudly and be becomes almost crazy. The rest of the cast are decent actors. The couple rent out their room to "Paul" and he starts to do some weird things. The homeowners try to do their best to make the best of the situation. Julie and Ben start to get to know the new roomie and along the way he makes things uncomfortable for Julie. He starts to stalk Julie at her work.
Paul starts making all kinds of trouble. He breaks in the house and takes Julie and Ben to have a conversation at the table. While they "talk" Paul has flashbacks of his childhood. This is where we find out "Paul" used to live in the house. He ruffles them up a little. Then it just kinda ends...the film is not great.
Crawlspace (2022)
Excellent. Thrilling. Better than expected.
Henry Thomas plays a plumber who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He witnesses a murder of a well know business man all while cramped in a crawl space. The killers do everything they can to get him out so they can collect some cash. Robert(Thomas) has to make a choice. Life or die.
While the two killers are trying to get him out Robert comes up with several plans to break down the killers. The FBI is now in on an investigation on some illegally cut down trees. This leads back to the business man's cabin where Robert is trapped. Soon we have Robert's wife being held hostage and a new twist is introduced.
This film should have gotten better ratings. It was very well written and director L. Gustavo Cooper does a great job in delivering this film.
The acting is fantastic. Keeps you on edge. Smart. Brilliant. This film draws you in more and more as the minutes go by. Ruthless and dangerously good film of 2022.
Cut Bank (2014)
Great. Better than expected.
John Malkovich, Bruce Dern, and Liam Hemsworth bring a great performance in this film about a fake murder gone wrong.
Dwayne(Hemsworth) catches a murder on video. He uses this to get reward money so him and his girlfriend can leave their small town. Georgie(Dern) hides out long enough so Dwayne can collect the money and run. As he hides out he gets caught alive and has to clean an even bigger mess. Later a man looking for his parcel goes on a killing spree to find his item.
What was supposed to be a get rich fast scheme turns out to be more than Dwayne bargained for. Very intense chase to find out the truth leads to some unexpected results.
Thrilling. Intense. Great acting. Great direction by Matt Shakman. One of his best films yet. Excellent scrip and story.
The Box (2009)
Slow.
The Box staring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden is about a couple who have a choice to make. Either they press the button or don't press the button. If they press the button someone in the world whom they do not know will die and they receive 1 million dollars.
The acting is great. Langella was great. As always he delivers a great performance. He's mysterious and magnificent in this film. Director Richard Kelly is good. Not his best film but still had good creative lead. The scrip was decent. The accents of the characters was a good touch.
The story is boring and mostly uneventful. It's slow to start and doesn't really pick up until the end. The same option will be given to another couple if they do not press the button. They have 24 hours to decide. The couple try to unravel this mystery. While they attempt to figure out a way out of this mess they find themselves being followed by "employees " of the man who gave them the box.
Overall it's not Diaz's best movie. Maybe not the worst. It's just not exciting. Uneventful. Boring. Slow. Doesn't really keep your attention.
Personally isn't worth a watch. I can not recommend this film. It would have been better.
I Still See You (2018)
Worth a watching. Great story.
Bella Thorne and Richard Harmon bring us a stellar performance in this amazing film about post apocalyptic times. Somewhat of a slow start but it takes off.
Friends Veronica(Thorne) and Kirk(Harmon) are on a mission to figure out why a spirit is trying to communicate with Veronica.
We first open with an explanation of what happened to the world ten years beforehand. An explosion caused a lot of people to die leaving behind "remnants" of who they once were. The remnants replay actions of what they used to do over and over but only for a few seconds then it disappears. As Veronica and Kirk try to unravel this mystery the pair find themselves realizing who they can and can't trust. The remnants are all around them and they can't hurt anyone living. Once a remnant is touched they disappear. This is the only way to tell if someone is alive or not.
Veronica and Kirk develop a great relationship that really speaks to the audience. These two are a fantastic pair. Some of the best performances. Scott Speer is a master director. One of his best films yet. This film will not leave you wanting more. These elements bring together a great story. The present interacting with the past is fantastic. Highly recommend this film. Stunning. Thrilling.
A Dream House (2023)
Awful. Poor acting. Terrible.
This film staring Taryn And Jon Hacker as the main actors leaves you wanting to turn the movie off early. The acting is poor. The chemistry with this couple is not existent. The set is the house which is beautiful However is has a dark secret. Don't they all...
The little girl at the beginning was the best part about the whole film. Great makeup.
These two knuckleheads buy a home at auction for a steal of a price. They move in and find that the family living in it before just "picked up and left". The wife realizes the family has photos that the family may want. So, she tries to get ahold of the former home owner just to be told she killed herself in the house. Soon after strange things start to happen. Ghosts that are not scary. Frights that are a joke. This film is not only under bad direction by Candice Cain but the writer Charles Vidal is not much better. The film lacks so much excitement. It's dull and boring. Two stars - one for the home and one for the little girl. Very disappointing.
Radius (2017)
Not bad. Good science fiction story.
Radius is a ok science fiction film that takes place in a small town. A man (Diego Klattenhoff) wakes up from an accident not knowing who he is or what exactly happened to him. He soon stumbles upon a young lady (Charlotte Sullivan) Who he learns was in the car when the accident happened. Together they find themselves trying to figure out why they both can't remember anything prior to the accident. Later in the story starts to come together as the duo each have flashbacks to the accident and before. They each piece together the puzzle leaving you with a shock at the end. The acting in the film is great and you won't be disappointed with any parts of it. The storyline is good and keeps you engaged. The camera work is ok - a little shaky at times but not too bad. Definitely worth watching.
Oldboy (2013)
Dramatic. Excellent acting.
Josh Brolin does it again!
This film starring Josh Brolin who gets kidnapped and held in what he thinks is a hotel room finds himself fighting an invisible evil. Trapped in confinement for twenty years Brolins character Joe gets set free by his captors. He goes on a hunt to find his daughter who he believes has been kidnapped.
Elizebeth Olsen plays a nurse to the less fortunate but teams up with Joe to find his daughter. In this mystery we watch as the duo unravels many secrets at every turn.
His goals are to answer a few questions about the person who killed his wife and put him in confinement. If he answers the questions he gets several "prizes" but most importantly he gets potential freedom.
Just like any mystery this film offers many twist and turns. It's a must see film.
Suburb acting. Excellent camera work. Non of that dizzy stuff. Great direction.
Return to Sender (2015)
Bad. Terrible storyline.
Reccomend no stars. Worst story line ever. Pikes worst film yet.
A nurse finds herself trapped in her home and gets raped by a man who works at a lonely cafe. While she's trying to sell her home and move she decides to write attacker in prison. She writes him a whole slew of letters then finally decides to see him several times. During the course of the film she visits her dad all while hatching a plan. She kills her dad's dog by poisoning him with bad food. Then next thing we know the attacker is out on probation and she hires him to help her fix up her house to sell. Dad finds out and is furious- He tries to reason with her but to no avail. She proceeds to poison this guy with antifreeze. She traps him in her basement. Towards the end we think she killed him. Possibly the worst movie that year. I can not recommend this film. Slow. Boring. In general bad story. No excitement. Bad ending.
Break In (2023)
Over all good. Worth a watch. Great acting.
Here we have a stunning performance by Jessica Morris as she plays a woman who is getting a divorce from her husband played by William Baldwin. Baldwin gives us a thrilling performance as he doesn't know his wife's intentions.
We start out with Jessica's character, Heather who while going for a divorce decides to stay at her mother's home. She is in the process of cleaning it up when she sees an intruder trying to break in her mother's home. As she fights to stay alive she finder herself face to face with the "other man" who she thinks could be the one behind the mask. While running all around the house trying to stay alive she manages to get one phone call out. The police come to her rescue- she tries to unravel the mystery behind this scary night alone. She ends up finding out what really happened...
This film is a solid 9/10 for acting and story line. Wardrobe is absolutely fantastic. The intruder has a unique "personality " in the film. The mask is something we have seen before however, nicely done. This film offers several "boo" moments that make you jump.
Jessica and William work well in the thrilling film. Director Peter Sullivan directs this film flawlessly. Really good.
Traffik (2018)
Worth watching. Edgy.
This film keeps your attention. A couple is on a get a way for the weekend cerebrating love. They find themselves sharing the experience with some friends who surprise them by showing up.
The friends find themselves fighting for their lives after a biker gang stirs up trouble. Twist and turns keeps you on the edge of your seat. Paula Patton and Omar Epps take on the rolls of lovebirds so well. Great acting by both. Writer and director Deon Taylor is fantastic. The script and direction was spot on. Definitely recommend this film. It's worth a watch. Wait till closer the end where you get a surprise you didn't see coming.
Mud (2012)
Great acting. Very good storyline.
Two kids help a man who is disparate to get away from people who are looking for him. Along the way we meet a lady who is being followed by some bad guys who want to find her "boyfriend ". The kids take on a mission to gather items to restore a boat for Mud. This film is incredible. It's touching and it's a must see. The boys find it hard to believe Muds story. But they progress.
Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon were perfect for the characters in the film. Not only are these two excellent actors in this film but Sarah Paulson is amazing as well. She delivers an outstanding performance as the mother of one of the kids. As the two kids gather items they find themselves in an adventure they will not forget. Highly recommend watching this film.
It will keep your eyes on the screen.
House at the End of the Street (2012)
Solid 8/10
This film is decent.
New neighbors move in next door to a house that a young man lives in alone. Sort of a too good to be true situation. Well it was...
The daughter(Jennifer Lawrence) befriends the boy next door. They become close until a secret of his comes to the surface.
Many events play out in this film leaving you curious about this loner of a kid. The mother and daughter duo fight to stay alive when the boy(Max Thieriot) allows some of his past to come alive. His secrets can't be hidden any longer.
Great acting. Great script. This film definitely has some of the best actors to hit the big screen. If you enjoy being jumpy you will enjoy this film. I highly recommend giving it a try. It keeps your attention well and it's r boring at all. The ending will shock you.
No One Will Save You (2023)
Generally good thriller
This science fiction film is about a young girl who fights to stay alive while the world is having an alien invasion. She doesn't speak in the whole film. While she runs from aliens, she hatched a "plan" to survive. The plans start to fall apart not even halfway.
The alien special effects are awesome. The spaceships are really a good touch as well. The farmhouse setting is equally impressive. The land she runs through is spectacular. As she runs into town she finds herself seeing people who also do not speak. She tries to find a safe place to go and ends up back home fighting once again. When she comes face to face with a secret she has been keeping. It all comes out at the end and only then does it make sense.
Through out the film you have to try to put it together for yourself. It's not entirely easy but it's decent.
Overall it's a solid 5/10 only for special effects and acting. The story has been done before but it's more modern. It has a lot of boo moments and I really enjoyed that part. I would recommend watching this film for those reasons.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
Hilarious!!
Hilarious, wild, nutty, and absolutely fantastic movie!!
This movie keeps you laughing the whole way! Chevy Chase is fantastic in this film. Beverly De'Angelo and Chevy Chase make a great couple in this film along with the supporting cast. The acting is spot on!
While they are trying to have a nice Christmas with the family- all sorts of funny things happen. The obnoxious neighbors make a nice touch to the already hilarious film. It's a definite must see!! This film will have you rolling on the floor!
The story is awesome and certainly does remind you of a dysfunctional family. You can't help to shake your head sometimes. Overall best film from its time. Scrips was well written. Every line is great and well spoken. The humor alone is amazing.
Definitely worth 10 stars.
Escape Room (2017)
Just ok...
Escape Rooms are silly for one thing. Using that again for another version on a escape room was just as bad as the others.
A group of friends are trapped in connecting rooms and obviously they have to get out somehow. During parts of the film it seemed like it was going to be good but soon turns boring. The acting was ok. You have the ones who want to make out every second then you have the couple who argue too much. I wouldn't give them awards by any means. The special effects were decent. Some unused elements in this film were actually ok. But honestly I give this film a 5 star only because it's modern. It has elements of modern day which I liked...dinner dress up and wine. They were not kidnapped and wake up in a room. They all willingly went in this van to the rooms. Most films like this show people being kidnapped. So that's about the only thing that peaks interest because you wanna know where they are going and such. It all plays out ok but the ending was meh.
The Apology (2022)
Great acting. Good story
This film was fantastic. A mom who's daughter disappeared twenty years ago finally gets closure. Darlene finds herself in a tough situation with having to make some tough choices on that wintery Christmas Eve....
Anna Gunn was fantastic in this film. Could not have been better. Suspenseful and exciting. One of her best films. Great camera work. Great story line. For taking place in a house with the lights going on and off it wasn't bad. The story was well written and director Allison Locke did a fantastic job on this one. When the ex brother in law comes over one would not suspect him. As the film goes in it gets better and better. The end was just as good. It does not disappoint. 8/10 must see!
Backcountry (2014)
Decent.
This film was based on a true story and takes place in the woods. A couple gets lost then gets in trouble with a bear and they find themselves fighting to stay alive.
Ok, for one thing good job bringing bear mace. Thrilling and suspenseful. Keeps you on your toes in this one. The acting was fantastic. Storyline was good and easy to fallow. Not much to get confused about with this one.
Camera usage was not up to par. Fuzzy and blurry is not the way to go. Super shaky camera work. Not impressed. Some elements used in this film work and some don't. I would recommend this film if you don't mind the terrible camera work. Meh.. 3 stars.
Would You Rather (2012)
Brilliant. Edgy
This film has wonderful acting and even better storyline. The idea of using the method of a game to either live or die is crazy but brilliant. They all did such a fantastic job. Seeing John Heard was great as always. Britany snow is a fantastic actress and does not disappoint in this film. The methods of "pain" in this film are insane but well thought out. It's definitely a bloody film and is not for anyone who is terrified of horror to the max. Certainly worth 10 stars. Brilliant. Edgy. Absolutely must see film. Pushes the boundaries of live or die. All the elements in this film work well together.
Superstore (2015)
Funny and hilarious. Excellent tv show.
Seriously one of the funniest tv shows made. The actors are fantastic and well chosen for the roles they play.
The whole scenario of a store is great. It's super hilarious and well done. The storylines in each episode are well thought out. Each one is just as funny as the previous one. I do enjoy the music in this show. The storylines that continue through out the show are well played. You have to watch a few episodes to really get into it. The other actors such as the shoppers and the cut scenes are funny. The problems they get themselves into are hilarious. They have a lot of product placements (like a normal store) the whole set up is great. Very well done. Overall 10/10 for acting and funny factor.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
10/10 film
Just like the first film we find ourselves dealing with creatures who can hear you and will attack. The element of a mom and children made it just as awesome. The story picks up where the previous one left off. Mom and kids fight to survive the creatures that lurk nearby. They come across many obstacles and fight through them like champs. In the scenario I find every element used was well played. Being quiet the whole time makes it even more interesting. The acting was fantastic and the graphics were excellent. This sort of "monster" makes for a good storyline. It keeps you on your toes in this one. You never know where they will be. Adding a baby to the mix was surprisingly a good element. Overall film and acting is a 10/10 from me.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Excellent film. Suspenseful
Excellent film. Well played. Great acting. Exciting and suspenseful.
Overall excellent film and impeccable acting. The storyline was great. The use of "monsters" that can hear you but not see you(very well) was good a good touch. It had a great element of surprise when they were on the hunt. End of the world senecio and creature combo makes for a good film. I really enjoyed the whole story of the child that didn't make it. However, a film that is literally all quiet surprisingly made a great touch. The writers knew what they were doing with the gem. The director was fantastic as well. Certainly a 10 film.
Locked In (2021)
Not too bad
Great acting in this film. Storyline was good as well. For a film set being a storage facility it wasn't that bad. It does keep your attention. I thought running through a locker facility was a good touch and well played. This film has a lot of really good elements that I have not seen done before. The only thing I was frustrated with was the daughter factor. She like most kids anyways didn't listen or stay put. However, when she did run off she made the film more entertaining. Overall this film wasn't bad. I'd recommend it. Acting overall was a 9. Storyline overall is a 9. Definitely suspenseful at times.
He's Out There (2018)
Good even at the end.
This movie was good from the start. Somewhat slow going but it takes off. The acting was great. It's nice to see new faces in film. One thing I feel was annoying was the kids screaming and complaining often. It gets a little old and at some points you have to yell at the tv to tell them to hush up. The adult was great and as a mom in this scenario she did well. I will say overall it was a great film with a lot of unused elements in your average scary film. The boo moments were great. Very jumpy and well planned. I also like how the mom used a distraction to saw her kids. That element was well written and well played. Highly recommended film.
The Night They Knocked (2019)
Just ok
This movie was just ok... At some point you have seen this movie done so many times with little to no change. This movie was no exception. It had so many elements that have been done before. You got the stalkers outside, people trapped inside, unexplainable noises and general boo moments. One thing I did like was the acting. The actors were fantastic in the film. The relationship between the brothers was impressive. It was good till the end. I do enjoy seeing new and upcoming actors in films. I give this film a 5 star because of the acting alone. Otherwise it was not impressive overall. Like I said... just ok.
