Buck and the Preacher (1972)
buck and the preacher
this movie goes down as one of the best westerns.. ever produced... buck(sidney poitier) helps a group of black settlers.... move west... from louisiana... from the get-go.. he meets up with... a con-man... the preacher(harry belafonte).... as they show displeasure amongst each other... the plot thickens.. when the settlers are being forced back home..... Buck has other ideas... as the indians... are on his side and pave the way,.... there are casualties... and solid acting amonst poitier-belafonte-ruby dee and cameron mitchell... the setting is the late 1800's after the civil war... and tells a chilling story.... this movie will make you both laugh and cry.... and has 10-written all over it.... both poitier and belafonte(very funny man).... excelled in this flick.... stay with it... you won't be disappointed... some solid music also helps the movie along... kick back and enjoy... i have.. many times!!!
Equinox (1970)
equinox 1967-1970
although this movie had it's limitations... getting into the hands of Jack Woods.. may have been the best thing that happened to this future cult classic..... Woods provides us with an eerie-jaw dropping performance(big lips-drooling-facial expressions)... as a disturbed park ranger(asmodeus).. while 4-innocent classmates.. look for dr Waterman... a professor.. whose where-abouts leads to strange-bizarre events.. deep in the woods of California...
while trying to enjoy a picnic... the ranger... uses scare tactics... to throw these four.. for a loop... but it backfuires as they become more intrigued by the activity going on around them.. weird 20-foot monsters-an octopus-a flying devil.. and invisible land..
as the movie seems to wear on you... mentally.. it becomes challenging... as the plot thickins.. asmodeos transforms himself and the four students against each other... with a silver ring .. a horse.. and looks that could make you wanna.. sleep with the lights on for the next few years...
when all is said and done this short 75 minute movie does have a solid.. beginning.. middle and great ending... which always lead me to believe.. there would be a sequel... however... by the mid 70's... new technology in the industry... kind of left this movie in the dust... but... i say equinox... lasts in the minds forever... and if not for Woods performance.. it wouldve been a bust... i'd give this low budget flick a 10... but it got into more hands and they changed the name(aka.. the beast).. which took away from the dramatics of it all
