Our Girl (2013–2020)
5/10
As a series with an Army theme it was more liked Dad's Army
19 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It is a quality series in many ways and I especially enjoyed the first half of this series. I loved the main star Molly and for the first few episodes could not wait for the next week's episode. Then the writer must of gone on holiday and for me the series took a dive down as a Dad's army version of the army took over.

Don't read on if you don't want a spoiler.

It belied belief that two professional trained soldiers (different sex) in Afghanistan would be having a lovers tiff as they approached a possible IED watched by their men during routine patrol in hostile territory.

In case this Dad's Army theme got missed there was then a three way lovers tiff in the middle of a combat operation as the platoon examined a truck potentially full of the enemy.

O man!!!

Felicity (1998–2002)
7/10
Great series that goes off track in final few episodes

Warning: Spoilers
We watched the first series by accident, a repeat on TV, and really liked it. We got hooked and got hold of the three other series and really enjoyed the next two. Sure there were lots of questions, why did Megan change, why does Felicity keep going out with Ben, why does such a smart girl do such silly things at times (but don't we all), why did Javier not elope with Ben- But hey these movies are meant to provoke questions

For us the last half of the last series was the big let down. It almost felt as though the directors and writers were running of ideas so they did a Dr Who/Buffy stunt and took Felicity back in time. It was a tedious few episodes. Then came the last episode, which was a very poor last episode, where it should have been the crown in the jewel. And why was dead Elena at the wedding party.

Despite this I would recommend it as a worthy watch.

Gravity (2013)

Gravity may pull this film into a hole where it is quietly buried
16 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This was a movie I was really looking forward to. It promised much. Cut off in space on your own with the space module gone. What were the fears that the astronauts felt out there alone as they pondered their predicament.

Like a lone sailor adrift a few centuries ago- only worse.

Man did it disappoint. It followed the same clichéd tick box formula that we expect of special effect films these days. Lots of bangs, big explosions, (yes even with a fire ball), escape processes that belie belief, fast cars banging into each other (here it was fast space debris banging into each other.

A great plot was spoilt by an inadequate script and icing it in special effects did not change that.

I never got any sense from the actors a sense of the horror they were in. Perhaps I got it wrong and it was not a serious move but a spoof.

If you like films like Die Hard and Star Wars where the impossible is possible - without any deep probing of the psych or relationships - then this is the movie for you.

If you are expecting something deeper, more interesting then this movie will disappoint.

The Time of Our Lives (2013–2014)
8/10
Great series overall
22 February 2014
This was a wonderful series, and I found many of the issues that the characters had to deal with actually reflecting the issues facing a number colleagues and friends. While the situations were not of course fictional the emotions and ways to manage issues are no different to the way we have to manage in real life

I loved the wide range of interactions that so realistically reflected real life in its many layered complexity. The writers had managed to portray how we try to live and survive in our hectic world.

I did feel however that as the series came to the last part it seemed to me as though the actors were starting to get out of character and a different director was at the wheel, or a new writer was involved . This meant for me a great series sort of tapered off in quality at the end of the series run

Come on series 2.
