The Todd Killings (1971)
A correction of previous comments
I did not really care for this movie too much. I found it to be a little gross-a twenty three year old man consorting with high school girls...where in the heck were the parents....And also to enlighten future viewers, Richard Thomas does NOT do a frontal nude scene, he doesn't even take off his shirt. The frontal nude is done by Robert Lyons and personally I think he should have left his clothes on. It really was not necessary. But you can judge for yourself if you stay with this big disappointment that long.
I Can Make You Love Me (1993)
I really pondered over and rewrote this review several times
This was the first movie I watched with Richard Thomas in as a mature man. It has become my favorite, although I don't know why, unless it has to do with Brooke Shields. She's a beautiful girl, but let's face it, she really can't act. However, she did lend creditability to her part by possibly drawing on her own stalking experience. She was miscast in my opinion, the real Laura Black was petite. Thomas spends most of his scenes with her gazing up into her face with those gorgeous blue eyes of his. Once again, the real talent here is Thomas. Arrogant, pushy, and menacing though most of it, at the end, he effectively generates sympathy for his benevolent and suffering character On the outside looking in is indeed a lonely place. And who knows..maybe she did point her finger at some time and laugh at him. The special and gifted do take advantage of the lesser. Some of the acting is not very good-but Thomas shines as he ALWAYS does. The movie is based on fact-you can look it up on the net. The scene where Farley looks up at her with that longing and surety in his incredible eyes and says, you and I were meant for each other, Laura, all I know is we were meant to be together-forever is what did it for me. That and the blueberry bread he baked for her in the first part of the movie. Even psycotics have their moments.
Linda (1993)
I've watched this over 10 times and my heart still aches
I have watched this movie at least ten times. I do not agree with the previous comments. This is a tongue in cheek movie and some of the acting is meant to be stilted. Men like Paul Cowley are few and far between, women like Linda, unfortunately, are a dime a dozen. The sad thing here is that although similiar relationships like this rarely lead to murder and frame ups, it is an all to familiar scenario. Boy worships girl, girl doesn't know he exists, they grow up, man sees woman he fantasized about down and out and rescues her. Bottom line, she never did love him-he came along at the right time and she used him. Thomas is excellent as the nerdy but adequate Paul. His portrayal is sensitive and touching. Madsen is perfect as the femme-fatale. What really moved me was the final scene. Paul says he eventually cried, but not for Linda, his wife, but for the unknown girl he had watched from a distance so many years ago..and longed for..and loved. And I loved the close-up of Thomas at the end.
Down, Out & Dangerous (1995)
Richard Thomas is riveting...
I had never seen Richard Thomas play a bad guy. I wasn't sure I would like him this way. And I wasn't sure he could pull it off. But this astounded me. He sent shivers up my spine and caused me to take a closer look at street people. The movie is engrossing and fast paced. Bruce Davison is convincing but all he can really play is a nice guy. The real talent here is Thomas. The ending was a little clumsy but perhaps that's the way real people would fight... If you are a Thomas fan you MUST see him here at his best being bad!
The Miracle of the Cards (2001)
A very good heart-warming movie.....
A movie about how faith and hope can make a huge difference in the outcome of things...however as a Richard Thomas fan I was disappointed because he was not in it enough. You don't see him until the end and his part is small. Important but small. But it is a movie worth watching.
Living Proof: The Hank Williams, Jr. Story (1983)
A stellar performance by Richard Thomas.
Richard Thomas is at his very best. This is a must see for Thomas fans as well as Hank Williams,JR. fans. I had never listened to his music but after Thomas' excellant portrayal of this tormented man I headed straight for the music stores.
