The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (2017)
They understood that the book is about the people
One of the most authentic to the book movies I've seen. The beauty of the book is that it was about the people. I was born in the next town over in Virginia and know that area well. The culture of the characters in the movie is accurate. The regional accent is not used. The accent there still resembles the early colonial period regardless of ancestry of the speaker. The movie audience would not have understood it. If you want to know the science, there are science documentaries about it.
The Saint (2017)
Sit back and enjoy some 1960s style entertainment
For a little retro entertainment, The Saint is not bad. My wife and I got a kick out of this light movie. It was interesting to see Adam Rayner in something after Tyrant. His character had the quote of the movie. When asked if he could do a job after getting beat up, "Of course I can, I'm British".
Side Effects (2013)
Soderbergh channels Hitchcock in a complex thriller
"Side Effects" is a very Hitchcock like movie with lots of plot twists with very little foreshadowing. The writing and acting is excellent just giving tiny clues to the true intent of the characters. At first some of the acting appears awkward or misplaced. Those awkward scenes are the only hints you will get to the true story. Short summaries of "Side Effects" do not accurately depict what the movie is about. Not even the meaning of the title of the movie will be apparent until the last scene of "Side Effects". Ignore the summary descriptions of this movie and watch carefully and enjoy the ride. It is a confusing and sometimes terrifying trip. You will probably not know the destination until the last couple of minutes of the movie.
