Unicorn Academy (2023)
Combination of Spirit Riding Free and Harry Potter franchise
I have to say, these newbie upcoming series is amazing and enchanting to watch by everyone and all age. But since its based on the comic book by Julie Sykes, which I haven't read. My review is based purely on what I've watched.
I want to start with the animation, which I have to admit, looks very cool, colorful, smooth and beautiful, feels like watching Barbie. As far as I can see, there seems no flaws to the animation style.
What I want to highlight about this series, one of them are the character development. Each main protagonist is continue to experience growth in their personality, experience character development that keep continue throughout episodes. These character development of each protagonist is very favorable, makes me enjoy each episode as each character continue to grow their personality up until the last episode.
Other things that makes this series unique is each episode has an unfinished endings that will continue in the next episode. I think that's something that almost not find in any other preschool animation series that I've ever watch so far. I think its a great plus for the series to teach kids that not all episode or our life will always have an happy ending, so they can really learn the meaning of life. These, combined with their great storyline, make this series is intense and exciting to watch
As for the score, despite its not a musical drama, the music/songs (including the theme song) chose for the series are suit with the whole series journey.
Despite these positive reviews, there are a few drawbacks that I need to address.
The fight between the villains (including Ravenzella) and the protagonists is tend to be boring and not intense. Particularly in last episode when Ravenzella was conquered Academy, she was like "What, that's it? No Intend to do something more or what beside just put revenge on the Academy?" That part makes me a little confused of what her true goals once she took over the Academy.
Despite I mention a positive review about storyline, for particularly for first episode which is a special movie however, I kind a disagree if the main protagonist (Sophia Mendoza) defeated Ravenzella straight away (even though Ravenzella return again in the following episode, but in the end, she just return to the prison after defeated). I would like if in the first episode all the main protagonist are able to bring the villain back to the prison before they all defeated her together once and for all in the final episode.
Last, special for Muslim, its not advice to watch this series since contain magic etc., that worried belong to syirik. Even if want to watch, just to earn moral lesson from the series.
All in all, this series is great and exciting and able to be watched with family. I can't wait for the next series, therefore I may will renew this review.
Until then, its a Spirit Riding Free and Harry Potter roll into one exciting animated series for family.
Sofia the First (2012)
Best Disney Junior series yet!
Without any doubt, this is the best Disney Junior series of all time, both overall and as female lead-character. At first, I didnt expect anything when it was first released, in fact I didnt continue watch the whole series. But after refound the series and watch all of the episodes, boy oh boy, I was blowned away, amazed and fascinated with this series. In fact, I really loved it. Here's some of my thoughts why this is the best Disney Junior series yet (according to me).
1. Animation, although some criticize the animation style which is not good, I must say its one of the best animation. However, I do have to criticize the darker coloration from mid season 3 until season 4 which I do not prefer. But still, its very superb.
2. Song/music, its definetly one of the thing that makes it the best, the score, the music is really beautiful, enjoyable and loveable that make me want to listen it again and again. In fact, I count less than 10 songs that I didnt enjoy, but not to level of dislike or hate. Some of the songs even contain moral lessons for our kids.
3. Actors, I really likes how the actors play their characters. I especially really glad that they choose Ariel Winter to play main role as Princess Sofia. Even so, I'm also proud with the chosen actors that play each of the characters, they really did a great job with their voice role.
4. Characters, I really enjoy each of the characters performances. I like Sofia's physical characteristics that makes her cute and adorable, yet strong and tough within. But what I really like the most is how each character is emotionally and behaviorally developed from episode to episode, so they didnt just stagnant to always have same behavior all the time.
5. Moral lessons, theres no argue that this series is full with moral lessons for all of us, young and old, boys and girls. And how they teach us that moral lessons through the series is beautiful.
6. And the best of all, its storyline/plot. Its outstanding for animated series for kids/preschool children. How they did the storytelling from their first beginning movie, her first episode, until its finale special movie, its so much fun, exciting, intense, exhilarating, but its really understandable for kids at any age. I also really enjoy how they do continuity for each episode and how they connect some of the story that link to previous or upcoming story, that is so amazing to watch and to understand. Thats why I rare get tired or bored to watch each episode over and over again.
However, and this is for the good sake for my Muslim friends, just to remind that the whole series is full with magics and spells that lead to syirik, so its best to keep our children away from watching it. Even if want to watch, its just so we can learn some moral lessons from each episode.
All in all, what an outstanding series. Thumbs up for the production team that made the series so amazing to watch.
I was thinking, if one day Disney Junior make their own version of Avengers, I think that Princess Sofia is the right leader for the team (but this is just my thoughts, which might won't happen any time soon haha)
Once again, what an outstanding Disney Junior series. This is the best series yet, in fact I can hardly think that there will be a series that will defeat Sofia the First to be the best series any time soon.
Until then, its my favourite Disney Junior series.
Spirit Untamed (2021)
Underrated yet amazing, family friendly movie
The movie is actually quite good. It's a family-friendly movie that can be watched by all kids and families. Its storyline was great and understandable. The animation was amazing even though its was standard compared to other Dreamworks animated movies. I think that its only downside is the lack of promotions before the movies release, make the movie is underrated or under the radar. There's also one scene in the mids movie that I don't think its necessary to added to the movie. The jokes is quite funny yet family-friendly. The way actors expresses their emotions is amazing, though the sad part in the end is not sad enough that male my eyes tears.
All in all, its a well-deserved movie for any family to watch.
