Resident Alien (2021)
Alien is human gold for anyone with a pulse
I started watching season 1 and thought just a good quirky comedy but it grew in my heart beyond that. Reminds me how I loved scrubs as a solid comedy but was amazed by its heartfelt moments.
If you like comedy thst also touches you with unexpected moments of humanity find it!
All actors find their niche. The lead actors rock but also loved the kid actors who bring their game!
Love the overall story as well as the individual smaller stories. Much like x files had the big alien conspiracy and also the monster of the week this shoe leaves you wanting more.
Do aliens really exist? I'm convinced.
M*A*S*H: Good-Bye Radar: Part 2 (1979)
Lovely send off
Noone can say "Choppers" like Radar.
Love the way Klinger found a way to get the hang of things. The heartfelt goodbye by the bunch. At least Col potter is still living at time of Radar goodbye considering how sad it was that Col Blade didn't make it.
Love that winchester called Radar "Walter" considered how rarely you hear his name mentioned.
Also fasinating that the choppers arrive to "spoil" the going away party showing that War goes on without him.
Hawkeyes sad look at salute while radar saluts him back was fitting. He's a man now.
Radars memory carries over into the next episode and mike farrell gives an awesome perforance to show the pain and distance of war on those seperated from their loved ones but so glad Walter got home.
I had heard the spinoff never got off the ground but this episode was a fitting ending to his character. Any more would have ruined it.
Gd bless you Radar Walter O' reily.
M*A*S*H: Period of Adjustment (1979)
Touching and truthful. War is hell and loads of sacrifice.
Such an amazing episode that highlights what I imagine people serving their country especially during war and have to leave their spouses and children.
The speech at the end by BJ is heartbreaking. He truly captured the feeling of loss that a war takes away. The moments, the days, the years you can never get back, lost forever. The damness and evil of War. Its not that I dont appreciate and respect the sacrifice these men and women make that we should thank them every day but there is a certain amount of unfairness.
Anyway Mike farrell gives an amazing performance. I also love the reference to Trapper. It was fitting in that moment to include him.
The Giant Mechanical Man (2012)
Pam Pam Pam PAM
I loved Jenna as Pam from the Office but found her really performance underwhelming.
Yes she has a good presence but her lines just felt forced..
The ending was predictable. The sister and her husband were also quite shallow and annoying. Maybe that was intentional.
SHe stands up at end in the last 2 minutes of the movie. Really? She is stepped on the whole film and never says a word until the last scene of the movie.
This felt as good as SNL skit on a bad night
Where was her backbone throughout the whole movie. I get that she lacked self confidence and did see she was beginning to find herself through her relationship Tim but just felt like it took forever to get that point and then they shoved it into the last 3 minutes of the film.
Also she REALLY didn't know that was Tim? The most major thing in his life and he never shared it with her before they slept together??? I get her had the makeup on but I just didn't get that he never shared that with him as she was opening up herself to him.
The best character was That 70s actor. He was perfectely placed a the self centered know it all who has no self awareness.
Jenna much more authentic as Pam Beesley and I get she had 9 seasons to slowly evolve and in this film she only had 1 hour and 29 minute but knowing I loved Jenna Fischer and that she produced it to boot I expected to like it more.
I did like the actor who played Tim but he also felt distant and little shallow of a character
I think it served audiences well because they wanted them to end up togethe.
Maybe it was the writing but also felt felt Jenna's performance was a bit wooden.
I Am Sam (2001)
Loved I am sam. Brilliantly handled this sensitive topic
I agree 100% with majority of what was shared
I felt deeply all the emotions of this movie. Felt Sam's happiness as well as his frustration at moment where he just didn't understand due to his limits. Dakota was omg spot on and I am surprised I couldn't find any reference to thd beautiful Beatles songs used throughout the film. Even without the dialogue it could stir me. Yes the ending was not what you'd expect in real world but hey! It's a movie folks. Fantasy! :) I would hsfe liked to know more about the mom considering how intelligent Lucy was but I get it, it was about the present parent sam. I liked thst even those reviewers who were not sean pesn fans liked his performance. His display was most respectful to those with similar limits and was not stereotypical. I also adored his collection of friends some who I'm aware had real life challenges. Kudos to film producers or whoever put together this film with respect for those with special needs.
This Is Where I Leave You (2014)
Nice Family drama/comedy
I don't think why ratings were semi poor on this movie. Saying it doesn't match the star talent. I'm not even all the way through it and I love it. I love bateman and he was his usual excellent self. So much good performances he's been in his adult life. I'm not a big adam driver fan but he's pretty cool. Very relatable family drama. Been many disfunctional dramas around a family funeral but it does it well. Has heart, some funny moment. The actors play off each other well. Tina fey also does manage to meld comedy and drama. She continues to be a talented funny, charming actress. Jane Fonda is the biggest star and she manages to continue to shine. The gental background music provides gental background to the scenes without being 2 sappy. I think I've met the character limit so I'll stop there. See it!
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Inner Light (1992)
Marvelous and beautiful episode SPOILERS
I first must say I love that Patrick Stewart son played his "son". Their brief scene together was oh the more touching of a father accepting his son's dreams as reality. I also loved his bonding with his "daughter" in enjoying similar pursuits. But he shared love of music as well since Picard discovered playing flute as a hobby as much as his son wanted it as his career. Wish we got to see his son play maybe in a concert.
Loving watching him bring down his own "Shields" and opening up his new "life".
Wish there was some way of saving more than memories of these kind people but as some have mentioned when our live ends all we have left is memories.
Picard's relationship with his "wife" was so touching. She was one of the best partners with his character if not the best one since he had a full "relationship" with her.
I wonder if "Kamin" was a "real" person at one time or whether the probe created it.
What was amazing was Picard was probably willing to die there.
How confusing it must have been when he came back and try to resume his actual life.
One other question:
For a culture that was so far behind how did they create such an advanced probe? But such is a tv show. Imagination.
I also wonder how much he shared with rest of the crew because while the ending was sweet and kind you never saw him share it. Maybe he did off screen or maybe it was 2 personal to share. Since in last episode it revealed he married the doctor later in life i presume he would have shared that with her at least.
All in the Family: Stretch Cunningham, Goodbye (1977)
Shalom Jerome aka Stretch
Interesting episode and marvelous twist knowing archie was lifelong buddies with someone who he loved who was in reality part of an ethnic group he looked down on.
Caroll o conner shows his genius at the ability change from humor to the senior and offers a tender moment in the last few minutes when the reality really hits him that he says some very kind things and then honors his friend by uttering a proper sendoff.
Felt like it a mixture of guilt and genuine sadness.
I also like the earlier mike and Archie typical back and forth when archie gets some pretty good zingers at mike considering mike usually gets the better of archie. And one of few times he showed appreciation to mike and almost a compliment to him. Very rare.
Black Summer: White Horse (2021)
Movie within a tv episode
I'm an old TWD fan. I watched season 1 and got sidetracked before coming back to this show and just watched this episode.
Had a good mixture of current zombie reality with understanding that our past travels with us no matter where we are.
At first I thought one of the characters wasn't really there but seen 2 many movies like that. This was even better. Not going to spoil the episode by giving any of it away but its worth the trip. I barely remembered the past episodes when saw this one but think even if you've never seen it before it could stand alone on its own.
To me it asks the question: Are all people no matter their past capable of change or are some of us incapable of change?
Come Play (2020)
An interesting spin the horror genre
Being the parent of a child with autism it was a very interesting balance to share some of the trials, stresses and frustrations of raising a child with autism with a twist on horror.
From the parents who blame themselves for never being enough to the child who longs for connection with others despite the barrier's autism puts in their way with the "normal" world you special needs families will be nodding your heads/.
Throw in a "monster" who appears to want to fill the void makes this movie something unlike any horror movie I've seen.
I liked this movie. Not going to give any spoilers but its worth a watch. For those who have kids with autism you will find some things to relate to. For those who don't maybe it gives you a glance into world of friends or family who do have.
Conclusion was touching and sad at same time. Don't think that counts as a spoiler but worth the trip.
The Midnight Club (2022)
I dont call what anyone else says I LOVE this!
Watching the final episode right now and despite the grim topic it is entirely a beautiful, wonderful experience.
I wish there were more seasons as I love these characters and the actors that they play.
I've never read the book it is based on but this season is Filled with scares, romance, tragedy and wonderful tales within the tale. It is breathtaking.
I refuse to give anything away in this review but you will fall in love with at least 1 or more of these characters in spite or because of their flaws proving once and for all we are human. We all can lose hope, find hope and realize NOONE makes it through this life alone.
The Bear: Braciole (2022)
Brillliant
Awesome show I must admit I don't understand half of the dialogue as it related to the cooking field, but the actor's delivery and expressions deliver a powerful punch. Family drama that any person can relate to. Watch the 1st season and you will be pulled in. I binge about 1/2 season initially but had to pull back as need 2nd look. Jeremy Ellen White is a tortured soul that you can't help but root for but every character has its place and places an important part like leaves on the tree. The restaurant is the heart of the show. I love the analogy of "the Bear". Family is not always just blood.
