Fool Me Once (2024)
Don't be fooled!! Absolutely terrible.
What is it with TV today? This is so bad, it makes Hallmark look good. Convoluted, disjointed, drivel that even with the total suspension of disbelief makes you wonder how anyone involved in the production can show their face again in the industry without begging for forgiveness. An utter waste of time.
I pine for the days when we had many fewer networks wherein most programming was at least mediocre. These days anything makes it to air. It's now like throwing dog poop at the wall and hoping it sticks. The TV landscape has so expanded beyond reason that no matter how much it stinks, it gets made -- they are so desperate for content.
I guess I should not be surprised because Netflix has produced almost nothing worth watching from its inception.. Fortunately, I get Netflix for free but I am starting to realize even that is a rip off and that they should be paying me to watch.
Moonlighting: When Girls Collide (1989)
Perfection
I love the evolution of this show. Few understand that "Moonlighting" is a comic tragedy. The story of a lonely and vulnerable woman, Maddie Hayes, who is a victim of embezzlement forced to go into business with a complete, but likeable, loser, David Addison. After succumbing to his adolescent charms, she stupidly sleeps with him, becomes pregnant, ultimately freaks out, marries and divorces another man in a panic and then loses the baby. This final season of the show deals with the aftermath of this whirlwind relationship that ultimately leads to an affectionate business relationship much to the displeasure of David. This episode brilliantly puts the final nail in the coffin shutting the door forever on David and Maddie's romantic possibilities via a romance between David and Maddie's cousin, Annie.
No other show on TV, before or since, has had the courage to present a realistic outcome defying fan pressure for a romantic and sappy ending.
From the get go, the character of Maddie Hayes was slumming by getting involved with David Addison and I am so glad that the producers stayed true to life by ensuring that it would never work out.
The final season, often derided by superficial romantics, contains some of the strongest episodes of the series. Not to be missed.
No Escape (2023)
Don't waste your time - Sadly, I did.
I cannot believe that I finished this show and I really regret it. Nothing makes any sense in terms of character motivation. Why the main characters would be on the run in the first place is unbelievable when it was clearly an accident. Why some of the characters would pursue the course they did when their family is so wealthy -- it would be easier and much less dangerous to simply steal from your parents. Totally predictable and totally anticlimactic. Badly executed and mediocre acting also mar any possible enjoyment. One of the episodes is so unnecessary, it is simply filler and does not advance the plot,
Avoid at all costs!!
Fantasy Island: #Happy (2023)
Oh yesssss
The show has been fine up till now, but adding more elements of conflict and sinister drama can only improve the show. The original concept of Fantasy Island in its TV movie pilot from 1976 had Mr. Rourke as an almost devil-like figure. They sanitized this when the show became a series in the late 1970s/1980s -- as another version of The Love Boat.
The characters up to now have been almost sickeningly sweet, I too want a wholesome show, but feel that some dark skies can only add to the mystery around the myth of the island. The characters overcoming serious adversity and facing the more sinister aspects of the magic forces unique to the island would bolster the characterizations and draw more viewers to the show in my humble opinion.
