Acts of Betrayal (1997)
Unintentionally very funny!
Talk about over acting, big laughs for this B flick!!
Cast of no-names with the exception of one time leading lady Maria Conchita Alonzo, who is by far stuck in the worst script of her career. The bank robbery scene is great, the dialogue, the constant "grunts and groans" from all the cast. It's just plain bad!!
American History X (1998)
Norton at his best
Ed Norton commands the screen with his portrayal of Derek Vinyard. I can't recall seeing such a top-notch performance in any movie. Although he was nominated for "best actor", he really should have won!
Spoilers ahead!
This is a very powerful movie, with some very disturbing moments. I had to actually pause the movie in order to watch the robbery scene, you know the one, the the guy laying on his stomach with his mouth open on the edge of the curb. Still bothers me. "Reservoir Dogs" was the only other movie that had the same affect on me.
This is a must-see movie!
Black Christmas (1974)
A classic from the 70's
I saw this movie as part of a double feature with the Exorcist back in 1975, It has stayed with me ever since. It's low-budget, dark, Canadian feel, makes it that much more creepy. It's well acted with a great cast, especially Margot Kidder. I'm sure it seems a bit dated by today's big budget standards, but that adds to the appeal of this classic. Although I have not seen this movie in quite a while now, many of the terrifying scenes linger in my head. I still cannot sing "Bye Baby Bunting" to my kids!
The younger generation will not truly understand how horror movies of the seventies paved the way for some of today's classics. If you are a "true" horror fan, go rent the DVD! You won't be disappointed. Incredible ending!!
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
...and you thought "Wild at Heart" was weird!
David Lynch once again takes us to places we've never seen before, and places most people don't want to know about.
I have watched a few of David Lynch's movies, and I try to be open-minded, but come on people this movie is just to "out there" for most people to appreciate. Just because a director creates an edgy, dark, dream-like picture, without any plot, it doesn't automatically qualify it as art! I will say this though...it has something for everyone.
It has a creepy feel throughout the entire movie, it's a bit like "Lost Highway". Some of the acting is top-notch, but the movie lacked substance and direction, then again, most of his movies do. I am perplexed as to how this movie was ever nominated for best picture. Truly bizarre.
The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant (1971)
there's low-budget and then there's this movie!
I remember seeing the previews of this movie as a kid for "creature features"with Bob Wilkens. It seems so scary back then. I recently turned on the tv late night and saw it on AMC, it was beyond laughable. How do movies like this get made. I guess in the 70's you could get away with this.
The special effects (if you could call them special) were amusing to say the least. They always showed the two-headed guy from the right profile side, trying their best to disguise the hilarious fake head on the left. It was fun to watch the guy running around with the fake head. The close-ups had the real actor, as if to add credibility to the movie (ha!)
It's a fun late night movie that will leave you staring with amazement and laughter...enjoy!
Heist (2001)
Made for cable feel to it
This movie was a big let down for me. It did not hold my interest at all. It had a real good cast that seemed to struggle through a poorly written script. It honestly felt like a cross between an after school special and a made for cable movie. It was just too good-natured to be realistic. Don't bother!
