Are You with It? (1948)
One of the best movies I've ever seen!
I had never seen it before, until only a few days ago- and during that weeks' time, I have watched it I believe once on each day of the week. The story is simply delightful, the music the best. Donald O'Connor is always heaven to see, to hear, and he can act wonderfully.
The music is heavenly! Down at Baba's Alley, and What Do I Have To Do, and I'm Looking For a Prince of a Fella'- all delight to hear! I can never get enough of it- it's all the good words in all the good languages! Carefree and joyful, and a very wonderfully funny plot, to the very instant you hear Milton's matter-of-fact speech.
The characters all very bright and cheerful- I have nothing bad to say about it, only good sentiments!
Get Hep to Love (1942)
Wish I could find it.
The only movies I have seen Donald O'Connor in is "Singin in the Rain," but that really isn't focused on in, but instead Gene Kelly, whose ego is unbelievable, and, "I Love Melvin," which was a very cute little musical, and which is a shock I was able to find it on Apple TV. I watched "Toys" too, which he is in there for the briefest of seconds, and "Out to Sea," which he never really performed in it. I have never watched Francis, or any of the early movies- in fact, the only movies I have ever seen him in are already listed above. I just wish I could find all the movies he was in with Peggy Ryan- for I am the closest thing to in love with a dead man, and I really want to see all his movies, but especially his earlier performances.
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
Other Better Judy Garlands Musicals
The music for this movie was extremely good, and my problem with it does not lie within the music, which is catchy, cheery, and anything but bad. It's more of the story itself. It doesn't really seem to have a point.
So, Esther is in love with the boy next door. He doesn't notice her at first but falls for her the first moment he sees her. Tootie lies saying he tried to kill her, but the lie is quickly found out, and no major damage is done because of it- none at all, in fact. Therefore, the romance is slightly cute- but extremely ordinary. The interest is not placed in the sister's romance, or the brothers, which isn't particularly dramatic at all. The father says he's going to move- a would be huge twist- but he doesn't in all reality, but even with the threat that he would, the romances get no more dramatic. John Truitt doesn't have a particularly eye-catching character, rather awkward, even when Esther and he get more acquainted. There are some cute and funny parts. I love Margaret O'Brien's crazy character that always made you laugh, a complete contrast to her part as Beth in Little Woman. She has proven herself to be a very good little actress. There are some wonderful actors- Judy Garland is always wonderful, and the grandfather is a good one too, who had previously played the part of Dr. Meade in Gone With The Wind. Marnee, from Little Woman was also there- the acting is splendid.
But otherwise, the movie's rather boring, except for the music. It has no particular point and can get rather confusing. (Why were children burning things?) It isn't pain to watch, but not wonderful. If one wants a Judy Garland performance that is highly enjoyable, I'd recommend Easter Parade, or The Pirate.
The Pleasure of His Company (1961)
Wonderful!
Fred Astaire is a wonderful performer. Debbie Reynolds, always naive in all the parts I've seen her in is perfect. The acting has no flaws to it whatsoever.
I don't know who had the guts to say Fred Astaire sucks and it was hard to watch him. Opinions are opinions, and they stated theirs as a fact. Well, their opinion sucks in mine.
The whole movie is so delightful, from the very beginning to the last part when the ticket for two wasn't for his wife, but for Toy. If one wants to watch a movie that will make you happy, I could think of only a few others. The only shame is that I can't find the movie anywhere. It's on youtube, but the graphics aren't good at all, you can't even see the faces.
