Halo (2022)
So far I'm disappointed
I was very hopeful for the series as I've been a fan of the video games for the past 20+ years. So far it's very slow and as many have said in other reviews the chief spends way too much time not only without his helmet on, but his entire armor. It also has a PC feel to it that is consistent with today's society. After the fourth episode I'm just not interested anymore.
The Batman (2022)
Good - worth seeing!
It was no Dark Knight, but it was very well done. There were good performances by everyone involved. The only flaw to this movie was it's length. It was reminiscent to Return of the King as I kept thinking that it was going to end and it didn't. Like I said I enjoyed it, but I feel like things should've ended with the Dark Knight trilogy. 8/10.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Watch the cartoon first and you'll understand
I've been a fan of Cowboy Bebop for many years now and was very excited to hear about a live action reboot. The cartoon is fantastic and I can only speculate that Joss Whedon got ideas from the cartoon when he was creating the Firefly series. So far I think this show is a very good rendition of the cartoon. The only reason that I can surmise that this show is not getting the best reviews so far is that a lot of the people that are watching this are not familiar with the cartoon.
To conclude my review I think the show is very good thus far and I would highly recommend watching the animated series first. This will help you understand the characters, format, sequencing, and overall story much better!
The Hunt for Red October (1990)
Just a great movie!
This is truly one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm surprised it is not in with IMDb's top 250 films. John McTiernan does a magnificent job bringing Tom Clancy's story to film. The choice of actors is great. All in all, I think Alec Baldwin was the best Jack Ryan (and I am a big fan of Harrison Ford and definitely NOT ben affleck). Scott Glenn, James Earl Jones, Sean Connery, Sam Neill, and Courtney B. Vance bring great delight to the film as well. Every aspect of this picture from the special effects to the music is great. The suspense at the end of the film is terrific with the battle between the two subs and the hunt for the cook inside Red October! I truly give this movie a 9/10 and it is in my favorite movie repertoire.
Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (1986)
Wonderful children's movie
I grew up on this movie and I can remember when my brother and I used to play in the backyard and pretend we were in Care-a-lot. Now, after so many years have passed, I get to watch the movie with my daughter and watch her enjoy it. If you are parent and you have not watched this movie with your children, then you should, just so you hold them in your arms and watch them get thrilled over the care bears and care-a-lot! The songs, especially "Forever Young" are very sweet and memorable. Parents, I highly recommend this movie for all kids so they can learn how enjoyable caring for others can be! When it comes down to all the trash that is on TV, you can raise your children to have the right frame of mind about life with movies like these.
Memento (2000)
Terrific in every way
I became a fan of Christopher Nolan after I saw Batman Begins and I must say Memento is another spectacular addition to his repertoire.
This is unlike any movie you will see. Lenny, aka Guy Pearce, is searching for the man "he thinks" killed his wife. He has a condition known as anterograde amnesia, which means he has no short-term memory. He developed this condition after suffering a TBI the night he and his wife were attacked in their home. This is the same night he "thinks" his wife was killed. He must put tattoos all over his body and gather every clue he can to find "the killer".
Truly a classic in the suspense and mystery categories. Very unique the way the movie is shown with flashbacks in color and the present in B&W until the time periods meet. See this movie!!!!
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
What Star Trek truly is all about!
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is truly a masterpiece in every way whether it be plot, acting, suspense, special effects, or action. I thought it was an excellent idea to continue the story of "Space Seed". Who would have thought that Chekov and Terrell would land on Ceti Alpha V instead of VI. I love the look on Chekov's face when he realizes that they are in the cargo carrier that Khan is staying in. Ricardo Montablan does a terrific job as a man seeking revenge.
If you liked this movie as much as I did, I highly recommend that you read the Star Trek book "To Reign in Hell", which tells the story of Khan and his people living on Ceti Alpha V.
GoldenEye (1995)
An excellent Bond film
I have been a James Bond fan my whole life and I was disappointed when there was a 6 year pause after License to Kill. I was afraid the Bond generation was over. But then Martin Campbell was able to bring the franchise back with not only a terrific James Bond in Pierce Brosnan, but also a great movie.
This movie was terrific in many ways. It has a different plot than the other Bond films in that Bond has to eventually face the truth that his enemy is a former MI6 agent. Never done in previous films. This was truly a great idea. Sean Bean was a great choice for this evil character. There is great acting in each character, stupendous suspense, and wonderful action sequences.
Does anyone realize that Martin Campbell introduced both Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig? He seems to be born to direct Bond films. I do hope he returns to direct another in the future.
Blade Runner (1982)
Another home run for Ridley Scott!
I must say that Ridley Scott has done so many excellent features such as Alien, Gladiator, Black Rain, and American Gangster, but Blade Runner is my favorite. This is a true science-fiction classic that shows a dark future of chaos and technological advancement. Harrison Ford does a brilliant job as Decker, who is the Blade Runner assigned to eliminate all Replicants. One has to wonder if Decker himself is a Replicant due to his dreaming of the Unicorn galloping through Paradise.
This movie gives an important message to everyone when Roy Batty comments on the life of a slave being one of living in fear.
All in all a visionary masterpiece with excellence in directing, acting, action-suspense sequences, plot, and special effects for its time. A must see for all science-fiction fans.
Thunderball (1965)
The best of Connery
I think that Thunderball was Sean Connery's best bond film. It had very big shoes to fill after its predecessor, Goldfinger. This is the film I think of when someone mentions James Bond. This is a true spy film with all of the sneaking around by James around Lago's house at night, the underwater investigating, and James's narrow escape at the local Mardi Gras.
I cannot believe that Kevin McClory was dissatisfied with this film and went on to make Never Say Never Again. In my opinion, Thunderball is much better than that movie.
I liked all of Terence Young's bond movies, but Thunderball is truly the best. I highly recommend this movie if there are any Bond fans out there who have not seen the film.
Batman & Robin (1997)
A pile of CRAP!!!!!
Let's see, what can I say about this piece of crap? Oh yeah that's right, it is a worthless pile of CRAP! I cannot believe I was stupid enough to watch this movie (sorry...this pile of CRAP) more than once! George Clooney plays the same damn role with the same personality in all of his movies. He is the most pathetic excuse for Batman that Hollywood could have made. I think I could have done a better job than him and I am one crappy actor. Gotham City looks very unrealistic and idiotic. What the hell is with all the tall statues?! I am a big fan of Arnold, but he did not bring out the true Freeze character at all. Could it have been anymore feebleminded when Clooney took out the damn "Batcard" and said "never leave the cave without it?" I almost threw the DVD out the window after that, but then I remembered I had to bring it back to Blockbuster. Horrible plot, terrible directing, and dumbfounded acting. The only good part about this movie is the hotness of Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. If you are a Batman fan like me, please, please, I implore you to not see this huge pile of crap with a douchebag playing Batman.
Alien Resurrection (1997)
A great addition to the Alien saga
I believe Alien Resurrection is a masterpiece with tremendous visual effects, action sequences, emotionally-gripping acting, and suspense. I do believe that its predecessor, Alien 3, had great closure to it, but Alien Resurrection was able to give yet one more great thrill for Alien fans around the world. There is great cinematography in this film. For instance, I think the underwater scene in the film is tremendously done with a combination of slow-motion and fast-paced action suspense sequences. Sigourney Weaver does another terrific job as a true female bad ass. I cannot get over the awesome basketball shot she delivers in the film. There is a very powerful relationship between Ripley's clone and the Alien. It is sad to see the reaction the Alien has towards Ripley betraying it in the end. Great job to Jean-Pierre Jenuet as well for a science fiction classic.
Batman: The Animated Series (1992)
Pure Brilliance
This is truly the best animated series ever made. It can appeal to a person regardless of age. The new Batman cartoon cannot compare. Kevin Conroy provided an excellent voice for Batman. The creators bring outstanding animation in a "classic sort of way". There is great action sequences, suspense, character dialogue, and plots for each episode. I can watch these episodes over and over again and not get tired of them. Excellent job on each villain and vigilante. The show also brings out the best in each and every character in the show with excellent acting and voice over. I only wish this series would have lasted longer than it did. I highly recommend this series for any age (over 7 of course).
Aliens (1986)
James Cameron is awesome!
You rarely see a great sequel to a previous phenomenal movie. For example, Jaws 2, Predator 2, Psycho 2, etc. Aliens in every sense of the word is excellent! James Cameron delivers all the suspense, special effects, and horror from Alien but with more action! The marines were great! In fact, every time I watch Aliens (and it has been several times) it kind of reminds me of the excellent VG Halo. Sigourney Weaver is a true female stud! I have to say that I like Aliens better than Alien and Alien is a true science fiction classic. I highly recommend this movie, but you have to watch Alien first of course. It will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Great job James Cameron!
Transformers (2007)
Excellent!
I thought this movie was very entertaining in many ways. It brought back many good memories from the transformers cartoon from my childhood. The movie is very well done in terms of acting, plot, action sequences, and special effects. It has a great combination of action, humor, tragedy, and suspense from start to finish. The choice of cars for each Autobot as well as the vehicles chosen for the Decepticons was perfect. This is a true clash between good versus evil. I loved hearing Peter Cullen perform the voice of Optimus Prime once again! I also believe Shia Lebouf did a great job as well. If you desire to see an excellent action-packed movie (even if you are not a transformers fan), then definitely see this movie. Great job Michael Bay on a work of excellence! I am looking forward to #2!
