watch something else instead
1 May 2008
Please forgive my ignorance, but I've never even heard of Don Quixote. (sorry!) Unfortunately, this movie failed to ignite my curiosity or enthusiasm for the legend. The English dubbed version is very weak and I found ALL the voices rather annoying.

But I can see how this story has become a Spanish favourite. The ideas of chivalry and adventure are always popular and this story reminds me of a crap Spanish version of say.. robin hood, king Arthur or the french three musketeers story.

Anyway, this film is dismal and fails to capture the imagination or produce any laughs from it's lame comical moments. The soundtrack is also poor but the animation is 'ok'. If you decide to watch this film then I will not be held responsible for your inevitable regret.

They should have sent monkeys in to Space instead
20 April 2008
I usually love Danny Boyle films but I had a few issues with this one. It's not a touch on Event Horizon or Space Odyssey and is mediocre at best. I liked the idea and found the story appealing & interesting. I would have appreciated a bit more science about how the Sun could potentially leave the Earth in a solar winter, and why a nuclear bomb would save the Earth.

For starters... Why call a (space)ship destined to fly to the Sun, Icarus? Surely that must be tempting fate? And worse still... when that ship disappears, why call the next one Icarus 2!!! Jeez, that's like eating a shotgun sandwich!! The crew of the ship are a bit stupid as well. Surely trained astronauts on this mission would know that looking directly at the Sun is a no,no (Dr Searle); and why does Capa make such an obvious reference that it takes 8 minutes for the light from the sun to reach Earth - everyone knows that old chestnut. And besides, why was it even necessary to send a last minute message home and get all angry about it(Mace), especially when they all knew communications were due to stop working! talk about being disorganised - they had 16 months to say their farewells!

And all of the above just relates to the first 10 minutes of the film. I could go on and write a couple of sides of A4 about all the dumb character actions, but the worst thing about this film had to be the shaky-cam. It wasn't so much a shaky-cam, rather an epileptic-seizure-cam - it gave me a headache anyway and put the last nail in the coffin.

They should have just sent a bunch of monkeys in to Space instead. Oh wait, they did!

Hitman (I) (2007)

Un-remarkable, un-impressive, un-inspiring
29 March 2008
I have not played the Hit-man games, but I am an avid gamer and so i sympathise for those who were disappointed with this run-of-the-mill game-to-film. I also felt let down after watching the crap Alone in the Dark and Mario Bros. BTW I enjoyed Silent Hill and the Resedent Evils.

But even from a production point of view I thought this film was un-impressive. Everything about it was un-remarkable - acting, soundtrack, filming locations, storyline/plot, cgi, etc...

I felt slightly patronised as the film failed miserably to be intelligent and stylish. It is actually just random gunfights, dumb scenes and stupid character actions. Characters were un-inspiring and the film has a 'rushed filming schedule' sense to it. I ended up yawning thru most of the film.

Yeah OK its mindless violence, but a film has to do better than that these days and this just comes across as capitalising on a popular brand and as a platform for c-rate actors. There is certainly no atmosphere or tension and this film failed to excite me. TBH i thought it looked a bit crap when i saw the trailer.

I've heard good things about the Hit-man games and I can imagine that the people who made the game would have desired a much better film than this. They should of had a greater say in the film development.

as funny as a Colostomy
8 November 2007
I spent the afternoon getting drunk in town and finally staggered home inebriated. I had a great evening and thought I would finish the night with an entertaining chuckle at this summer's well-known comedy. Suffice to say, I was extremely disappointed and can honestly say that i did not laugh once throughout the entire movie (even in my merry state!).

My judgement in not against the actors, I have admired all the cast in previous films. It was obvious that the script was well below average standard.

jeez! watching this was a huge come down and sobered me up in 30 mins! I just watched the rest of the film to be polite. And honestly... I regretted it afterwards!
