The Manor (2021)
Awful Ending
This movie started off ok, I liked the main actress but it soon took a turn for the worst. It was frustrating to see the staff instantly rough spoken to her, making her give up her freedom to take her own medication and go outside on her own. It was all very unrealistic in my view. The supernatural element was a let down and cheapened the film. Witches and monsters wasn't what I was expecting going into this. I was hoping it would end up being the nurses causing the deaths and turn out not to be supernatural at all but instead it was silly monsters. The ending was ridiculous after all her struggle she turned to the dark side. Left me with a sick feeling. I should not have watched it and do not recommend.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Intriguing
I had been meaning to watch this movie for a while and finally got around to it. It turned out to be not quite what I was expecting. The main character, Eloise, is a little annoying with how fragile she can be and how she just tells people she is seeing things like they should believe her and not think she is crazy. I did start to lose patience with her around the halfway point. However, once things came together and the truth came to light I could forgive the character for some of her craziness as she was being haunted after all.
The actress playing Eloise does a great job and I wouldn't mind watching other films with her in them. I haven't been a huge Anya Taylor-Joy fan in the past but she does a good job in this as well.
Overall I would recommend this movie.
Happiness for Beginners (2023)
Heart Warming Film
I hesitated when choosing this movie as I wasn't sure if it would be any good. From the trailer it looked like a low budget film with mostly unknown actors. The only actor I knew was Luke Grimes from Yellowstone.
There were quite a few cringy moments in the movie and at times there was a lack of dialogue and it seemed like there was too much awkward silence between the characters.
About half way through the movie I enjoyed it much more. The characters all became very positive and helping each other on their hike which was nice to see in a movie. It turned out to be a much better movie that I thought and I would recommend.
Medium (2005)
Allison Is Infuriating!
I have just finished watching all 7 seasons and I love the show but Allison makes me so mad sometimes. She is one of the most selfish, self centred people on TV and makes it really hard to watch at times. She is supposed to be the hero but I just find myself wanting to fast forward through her whining. Her husband Joe is a saint to put up with her for as long as he has. As are her children, although Bridget is a very annoying child.
She expects everyone to take everything she says as truth and to forgive her when it turns out she is wrong but she judges others harshly and has a very black and white view of justice. For example, she stops being friends with Detective Scanlon because he lets a bad man die. She has done worse things but conveniently forgets that.
Despite Allison's character flaws, I still enjoyed the show as the concept is good and the stories each episode are interesting.
Living (2022)
Heartfelt Drama
I went to see this movie with my mum as it is her type of movie. I had also read the reviews and decided it was worth a watch. I wasn't expecting to like this movie as much as I did and certainly wasn't expecting it to have me in tears at the end. It seemed to affect others in the cinema in the same way. It is such a beautiful movie and I highly recommend it. Bill Nighy did an excellent job as Mr Williams. When he first appeared on screen I thought how dull his character was how could he possibly have been nominated for an Oscar. Well I was very much mistaken because as the movie progressed he proved himself Oscar worthy.
