Jelly Roll: Save Me (2023)
Beautiful story
I absolutely love this documentary. Learning more about Jelly Roll's beginnings, his struggles, the love between him and Bunny. The fact that they both realized they were toxic and needed to make changes, and did it? So. Much. Damn. Respect.
I teared up so much listening to fans tell him how much his music has touched their lives because it touched him so much. Watching a grown man cry is a weakness of mine.
One thing that stands out to me is Jelly Roll comparing a concert to going to church. I could not agree more with this. There is something so healing to be in a room/stadium/coliseum with hundreds/thousands of other fans singing to the same songs that mean something to you. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it. It's such a beautiful thing.
Dolly Parton: Here I Am (2019)
Great, but I was disappointed.
I recently became more informed about Dolly Parton's impressive career, both in her early years and in her more recent projects. While I was grateful to find out more about her, I was disappointed to find that there was no mention of her friendship with Kenny Rogers. This was a significant part of her life that was left out, and it is strange that it was not included.
Kenny Rogers has since passed away, so I'm even more puzzled as to why Dolly Parton would not mention her friendship with him. It is a mystery that I hope I can get to the bottom of one day. Although I may never know why Dolly Parton chose to not include her relationship with Kenny Rogers in her story, I will always remember the impact he had on her life and career.
