G.E. True: Mile-Long Shot to Kill (1962)
I saw this when it was first broadcast in 1962
The review submitted by jwpeel-1 is very informative. I also "have vivid memories of this particular episode!" Except I saw it when it was first broadcast.
I remember the two soldiers setting up the shot, adjusting for the wind, and observing through the telescope. To the best of my recollection, the general looks into a mirror attached to a tree, with a bowl of soap and water on some sort of stand, holds the old-style razor, starts to shave, and then stumbles away when struck by the projectile.
I am reminded of this program each time I see a military-action movie involving one or more snipers, which seems to be fairly frequently as the public appears to be fascinated by the lone-wolf, highly skilled marksman carrying out their orders.
Those were great days of black and white, creative productions.
The Giving Tree (2015)
A worthy treatment of a fine story
This simple, understated film faithfully tells the story within "The Giving Tree," a small but important book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. First published in 1964, it is ostensibly a children's book, but, judging from casual observation, is much adored also by children who have managed to grow old (like myself).
I won't retell the story here - I heartily recommend that you watch this short video and, better yet, obtain a copy of the book, read it to yourself and to anyone who wants a sweet story about life as a human.
Prepare for the flood which will engulf your eyes and your heart.
This video is available on YouTube, as is an animated version of the story narrated by the author.
