War, Inc. (2008)
I don't know if I truly understood this movie, but I enjoyed it and it was funny as hell!!
I think 99% of all the people I recommended this film to, will be disappointed cause I really hyped this as the bomb.
I thought this was a pure political satire, but it was a satire about much more, leaving that political part on the side. The thing what will turn most people away from this is that when you consider a certain element of this film, a characters ark, a scene or a plot, everything else in the film might seem totally irrelevant. Then again it was really relevant for the outcome.
I got a kick out of the characters mostly. I used to hate John Cusack but the guy can be actually funny. So can his sister. Marisa Tomei is as sweet as ever and Hillary Duff is just superb.
Cleaner (2007)
Strong acting, nice filmography.. Just to cover a thin story
As a finnish movie fan, it's always interesting to see a new film from Renny Harlin. Especially when Samuel L. Jackson, one of the most distinctive actors ever, is in it.
Jackson plays a crime scene cleaner, which you think would be what this movie is surrounded on. With all the C.S.I. stuff out there, it might interest some. But the scene where the story starts actually tastes like an idea where to start the story, not a theme for a movie where to excavate.
The plot is an uninspiring one, from the beginning to the end. There are some attempted details and twists to bring some life and excitement to this story. I'm sorry to say they really fail. There is no depth in this movie, and every attempt to create some is exactly that - an attempt.
This is bad cause the acting is pretty and the directing is nice. I can't really understand what the director saw in this script. Maybe the idea of creating something without special effects and exploiting the CSI-thing.
I give this one 6/10. All points going to actors and the director.
The movie is categorized as "Crime / Thriller". If you want anything good (and new) like that I suggest you see "Awake".
Awake (2007)
When a movie gives you chills, it's good
I don't have much to say. I didn't know anything about this movie before I saw it, neither did I expect anything special.
For the first 40 minutes of the movie it didn't feel like it had anything really special to offer. But when you realized what it was about and how it finally panned out, I was very happy I saw it and the ending sequence sent chills down my spine.
At first the plot seemed secondary and I thought this movie was just about exploiting the idea of being awake while surgery. Luckily it wasn't.
Maybe not really 10/10, but I finish like one of five movies I start and in my books, this was special.
Out for Justice (1991)
Best macho BS action movie ever
Yes. The straight-forwardness of Seagal's character makes killing sprees on movies like Commando seem like they're boring. This film is so damn funny..
Seagal's Italian accent and monologues are so hilarious you wouldn't believe.. His character doesn't have any obstacles on his way. He just smashes through everything. Yells, beats up people, brakes up random stuff during those ridiculous monologues.. This is a prime example of what movies like this should be, always.
Soundtrack is great, music fits scenes very well. Fighting and shooting sequences are nicely filmed cause they are clear. (Fighting scenes nowadays are usually so confused with million camera angles for split seconds..) And William Forsythe does a good job playing a psycho role.
Deserves an Oscar :)
