Spaceman (2024)
A unique sci fi that should be watched uniquely
I was lucky. It was Friday night, the wife and kids already went to sleep and I watched the Spaceman by myself, in the dark. It was the perfect setting to enjoy the movie. I'd go as far to say it's the only setting to enjoy the movie.
The themes of Isolation, family, humanity and the intricacies of battling with our own flaws shone throughout It resounded even more due to my own temporal environment reflecting the same. I'd wager if I watched it during the day with some friends I would have had a different experience and likely would not have enjoyed it.
It's a unique kind of film. Watch it by yourself in the dark, and let the themes wash over you while enjoying the interesting setting.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
It feels way better than it is
The story isn't ground breaking. The effects can be kind of janky at times. The acting really funny - it harkens back to old Japanese films where they exaggerate the characters' expressions.
Yet, I was engrossed for the full 2 hours. The director focused on a story and unlike Hollywood for the last couple of years, gosh was it refreshing not to be preached to or watch a 2 hour political advertisement.
The entire movie is subtitled, I know it's not for everyone. So be aware.
Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. A love story that unfolds behind the backdrop of monster rampaging through Tokyo. Marvelous.

Hollywood are you OK?
A valiant attempt by the director to see just how many cliches can be stuffed into 90min.
The opening sequence was quite beautiful, yet the moment the storytelling started, o boy, did I suspect we're in for something special. The writing and dialogue is like my 10 year old self got a few million dollars and sent off to make a movie. I cannot fathom how professional writers, people who do this for a living, crafted this debacle.
I love sci-fi. I love big monsters. I love movies.
And somehow, I was borderline asleep while watching the amalgamation of all three. To all those reading, I implore you, send help. Hollywood is in a state of disaster.
