Death Wish (2018)
Outstanding!!!
I watched the original "Death Wish" as a teenager on a video I rented and it was a great movie for that period in time. I usually don't like remakes of old movies, but I sometimes give them a try anyway. I really enjoyed this remake because there was a lot of action and a good storyline to go with it.
I live in the suburbs of Chicago and have always been a train ride away from the city. There is a ridiculous amount of shootings, gang violence, murder and corruption. I loved that this was filmed on location in Chicago because it made the movie very real. The on air radio bits also gave the movie a "real feel" . It was awesome that they even had Mancow (a very opinionated radio personality ) on the "airwaves" talking about the vigilante.
Bruce Willis did a great job and was very convincing as a vigilante, surgeon and Dad. Despite all the negative reviews I'm glad I watched this one.
Cam (2018)
Strange but watchable!
I just watched this and was curious as to what others had too say about this. I found the story interesting enough as it reeled me in. The last 1/3 of the movie was frustrating. I wanted to know how this person who stole her identity, appeared on the main characters live cam channel and GOT INTO HER HOUSE? None of this was addressed and that was a huge let down. I would like to know of anyone has figured this out...did I miss something?
Bird Box (2018)
Intense! Kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding!!!
I very seldom feel compelled to write a review but this movie deserves praise! I first heard of this movie when Sandra Bullock was interviewed about it and they showed a preview. This movie pulled me in and never gave me a break, the fear and excitement kept me on the edge of my seat (literally) through the entire movie. My heart was pounding, I was sweating at one point, started biting my nails which is a habit I broke over 5 years ago! I love horror movies and although there was hardly any gore, this movie was one of the most frightening, nerve wracking movies I have ever seen! I love it!!!
The Kindergarten Teacher (2018)
A little slow but worth it...
I watched this because I'm a big Maggie Gyllenhaal fan. I have never been disappointed in anything that she is in. When I saw her promoting this film I just had to see it.
I will admit I was ready to give up on the movie after the first 20 minutes but I'm glad I didn't. It is a slow burn as you learn more about this Kindergarten teacher's private life and the nurturing relationship she has with her student. The teacher thinks she has a little Mozart on her hands and this child basically becomes an obsession of hers.
This story really stirred a variety of emotions within me. Although my sons are adults now, I couldn't help thinking how I would have felt in a similar situation. This was very well written and Maggie Gyllenhaal's superb acting should earn her an Oscar nomination.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
One of the best in horror
Thank you Netflix for the awesome show! I watched all 10 episodes in 2 days and now I'm sad but I'm going to watch it again. This was a very well written series. If you are looking for a slasher movie then skip this. This has a great dark story and each of the characters are very interesting. The actors and actresses were outstanding! This story grabs a hold of you and pulls you in. True horror fans won't be disappointed! I'm looking forward to reading the book.
