Asteroid City (2023)
Not just horrible........ but stupid!
If a minus star could be available I would have rated it so. I have seen better film in a bath tub after a bath washing off mud, litteraly. Seems like many modern movies stacked with celebrities, with a lack of better terms, simply suck. With exception of the Ocean trilogy and a few others.
This one is a minus suck. So glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater.
The writer attempts to instill wit but, to me it falls short of "what?".
For me the only thing of value is the cinematography. It's irreverent and i like irreverent. The Roadrunner has a more acceptable part in this waste of film. This movie has to have been a tax write off.
This is a testament of when a movie advertisement tells a viewer that it is the best movie of the year. Right! Plan 9 from outer space was more entertaining than this so-called masterpiece.
Scrooge (1970)
Awesome rendition
It is never the Christmas season in our home until we watch this movie. Great script, great set, awesome effects for its time.
Albert Finney is convincing as Scrooge, both young and and as the older Scrooge.
The cast is well selected. The soundtrack is catchy.
Then there is the ending where Scrooge finds redemtion. Always brings a tear.
The viewer never realizes this story was originally written as a ghost story because of how it was filmed and how it was acted.
This movie is a must see for every family, every year during this time of year.
With all new movies with CG this is a timeless movie even though filmed in 1970.
The Pacific (2010)
Awesome series.
We have moies and seires' of WWI through Irag and Afghanistan.
This is a series that makes me think of my Navy Veteran, Father-in-Law, who lied about his age to do his part to save the Free world. It shows a part of WWII in the Pacific Theater. Band of Brothers is an awesome searies in itself but it was different. The Pacific goes a step beyond and shows the backstory and helps huminize the war that saved the world.
I can only wish a series of the Korean Conflict can be made to honor those who lived that horriic war, including my Father and Brother-inLaw, who both WIA.
God Bless our Veterans and God Bless
America.
The Natural (1984)
One of the best dramatic baseball movies ever.
This movie, in my opinion is a top five of dramatic baseball movies. A must see. It has drama comedy, redemtion, finding lost love. Roy finally realizes his lifelong dream but late in life. He still has to fight and trudge through the mistakes of his past to continue living his dream. He must prove to his peers and others he is good enough to play the sport, even at his age. Then shows a few hidden talents
Roy's courage and tenacity lifts a sports team from the duldrums and helps the team see something in themselves. The team responds and begins to work together to win. Then Roy makes his final appearance in grand fashion.
"What is not romantic about baseball"?
This movie along with The Pride Of The Yankees, Field Of Dreams, Bang The Drum Slowly and The Jackie Rodinson Story are my go to baseball movies to watch over and over again.
Then the end, where he is having a catch with his son. Now what person doesn't feel a tug at their heart over that scene?
In a sense Roy and I are somewhat the same. I had realized my dream later in life after my own redemptions.
I think everyone can see a little Roy Hobbs in themselves.
A must see.
Ring the Bell (2013)
Ring the Bell
I received this DVD as a gift for Christmas this year. The movie is has a sports theme that will catch the attention of most Americans because we are mostly all are sports minded. I agree fully with n-swinger. The movie is encouraging, especially in a time where Christianity is being downplayed by the media and Americans are told that Americans are turning away from religion and traditional beliefs.
The movie beings with a Jerry McGuire type feel to it but ends with with the main character knowing redemption. People can and often change for the best. This movie shows it can and often happens. Problem is that the media does not show it because the media wants to report bad news rather than good news.
