Daisy Jones & The Six (2023)
Cheesy acting-surface level dive into the era
This show really fell short of its potential. The actors visually fit the the vibe but the acting did not hit. Suki comes off very much as a try hard cool girl which can be pretty cringy at times to watch, the same goes for Will-the presentation as the "nice guy" just seems to feel ingenious in his presentation. Also sadly Riley did not do what I expected her to do with this character-many parts just feel overacted specifically in the interview parts of the show. Tom and Nabiyah I think preformed their roles very well and truly felt more like the characters rather then someone trying to be the characters. Sam as per usual reached what I feel was the expectation of the role and he did it well and Camila definitely surprised me- there is definitely potential with her acting in the future. Other then the acting the story had potential but it did feel a little rushed and choppy and the way they set up the present day interviews felt pretty superficial (also that wig they put on suki was illegal). Honestly I thought that this show would catch my attention but instead I kind of had to force myself to pay attention. Watch it if u read the books but don't get ur hopes up, if u didn't read the books and are considering buying a platform to stream the show don't give into the marketing they've been doing cuz it's not worth it. The soundtrack tho is worth a listen.
The Swimmers (2022)
Great Movie
I've watched it twice already and what a great job they did making this! Finally a perspective of the realities of Western negligence when it comes to asylum seekers. This movie is motivational, stressful, heart wrenching/ heart warming and the fact the real life women are now facing prosecution from Greece for aiding asylum seekers and are facing up to 20 years in prison is something that should be talked about and condemned widely. For more information on that situation you can check out free humanitarians on Instagram. The actors also deserve all the praise because they did an amazing job. Refugees/ Asylum seekers have been through some of the worst conditions and many don't make out alive. People fleeing unsafe conditions from non European countries are constantly neglected and it's time we have more movies like this amplifying the stories of these people. Great job to everyone involved in the making of this movie. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
