Brussels by Night (1983)
How Brussels was during the (dark) '80's
People change, cities too. This Belgian movie gives a good picture of Brussels during the (dark) 80'. It was cold, dark and strange. I've been living in Brussels all my life, but have to be honest I do not recognize Brussels pictured in the movie anymore. Brussels changed a lot the last 10-15 years. But if anyone is interested in experiencing the atmosphere of Brussels in that time, watch the movie and be glad that things do change. The story is quite simple, it's about a few people who spent some days together, with rising tensions and feelings, which finally ends in a rather nasty situation. A psychological drama of a time I was glad I could forget it.
Independence Day (1996)
negative comment, sorry :)
Truly the most bad movie of the 90's: American patriotism all the way, silly conversations, a stupid and unreal script, bad actors... And like always the Americans will save us all at the end. In contrast to other continents which are pictured with people still living in the middle-ages :) (ex. the Japanese talking to the Americans during the invasion in a WOII alike setting, I just couldn't believe it when I saw this!) the whole movie is packed with pro-American details, subtle or less subtle.
one plus point: the first 20 minutes are ok. after that moment, the movie turns in an awful experience :]
2/10 is my verdict. even the graphics didn't save the movie. the same for the actors.
otherwise, have fun and laugh! :)
Delicatessen (1991)
a great french masterpiece!
If you like non-Us movies (what is becoming very hard today:) you should see this film. the movie is a french masterpiece, presents a fine collection of french actors, together with dark retro style decors, a crazy and typical french nervous "histoire" and a realistic vision on humankind during stress periods. I shouldn't promote this film anymore, you just must see it if you like a great story about 'cannibalism in a post-war-recession-alike time' without the horror :)
sit, relax and enjoy...
