The Liberty & Slavery Podcast: An Interview with Mount Vernon's Doug Bradburn (2023)
Deep Dive of Early American History
Not everyone is interested in the American history. For a lot of people it's simply a bunch of facts. But the history of how America came to be could not be more important to today's generation.
This podcast series is based on the Emmy Award-winning documentary "Liberty & Slavery: The Paradox of America's Founding Fathers." And, at the heart of the founding was the Father of Our Country, George Washington.
Mount Vernon's CEO Doug Bradburn explains in great detail the complexities of the man, George Washington. We learn about Washington the farmer, the Army General, the President, and yes, the slaveowner.
Along the way, Bradburn delves into the divergent worldview of both Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
Perhaps most interesting is Bradburn's insight into the emerging viewpoints of these two Titans of American history on the issue of slavery. Truly a fascinating listen.
James Bell Kitchen Table (2018)
Food, Fun and Flavor
James Bell, in my humble opinion, does a fantastic job of mixing a love for the people of his community with introducing us to some outstanding chefs.
Throughout the web series we meet renown chefs like Atlanta's King & Duke's Chef EJ Hodgkinson and LaTomate's Chef Domenico Apollaro. We sit down with Chef Matt Baker of the MICHELIN award-winning, modern American restaurant Gravitas in Washington, DC. Watch as James Bell takes us on a tour of Stellina Pizzeria, the two time Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand winner, to find out what really makes Chef Matteo Venini tick.
Ever wonder what goes on in the kitchen of an international embassy in Washington, DC? Then watch the Capital Emmy award-winning "Embassy of Norway" episode with Chef Chris Helgesen. And, as an added bonus, you'll meet Anniken Krutnes, Norway's first woman ambassador to the United States.
But JBKT's not just about diplomats and fine dining. Bell also shows us the everyday hustle of China, a small restaurant in Warrenton, Virginia run with heart and soul by Chef Lily, a Chinese immigrant from Shanghai.
Inertia Retro: Real Stories of the Highway Patrol (2022)
Mid 90's Reality TV
If you love mid 1990's reality television, then you'll enjoy revisiting the making of some episodes of "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol." The show was similar to "COPS" except with ride-alongs with the State Patrol and Highway Patrol.
A Moment in Time (2021)
2020 Restaurants
"A Moment in Time" is 17 minute short film that profiles two Washington, D. C. chefs, and their restaurant businesses, under siege from both Covid and political unrest in a time unlike any other.
North by Northwest (1959)
North By Northwest
If you are a Hitchcock fan, as I am, then this may be the best Hitchcock of all. "North By Northwest" has a little bit of everything: suspense, love, mystery, thriller intrigue, danger, and justice. Eva Marie Saint (Eve Kendall) has never been more beautiful, or more endearing as she is in this movie.
Years ago I didn't really care for Cary Grant, but he has a way of growing on you, movie by movie, and he is never better that he is in this role as Roger O. Thornhill. I loved James Mason and a young Martin Landau in this movie as well. Well worth the 2 hours and 16 minutes of your time.
