Stonewall (2015)
4.4 ?????
I loved this movie. Even though the subject matter occurred about 15 years before I was the lead character, my experience was in Chicago, so the difference in the time-line was only about 10 years. Im not going to comment about the acting, direction, cinematography, etc, What I need to say, is that this, albeit earlier, is by far the most realistic portrayal of what my life was really like when I first started to experience the gay scene in Chicago. I am also from Indiana, which I thought was a funny coincidence. Many of the reviews refer to cookie cutter characters, or lisping portrayals of the gay characters. Honey, for the most part way back then, for whatever reason, there was a lot more effeminism (?) frequenting the tiny hole in the wall bars and that was still the case well into the 80's. If you want to know what it was really like for a person quite similar to Danny's character, ignore the poor (ridiculous) rating and reviews and watch this very accurate film!!! At least for how it portrays what gay life was really like. If not what the Stonewall riots were like, though from all the literature I've read it seems pretty spot on to me.
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
I am absolutely flabbergasted!!!!!!!!
This movie is phenomenal!!! One of Mike Meyers best performances. I can't for the life of me understand why it has such a low rating??? How can so many people not have gotten it? I guess it's kinda like Leonard Maltin's low rating for "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Now I haven't read the book for years, and maybe people feel that it doesn't follow the storyline or possibly send Seuss's intended message? But this is one quite clever, sometimes hysterical, nonstop roller-coaster of a psychedelic experience that I am going to add to my permanent library!! Give this one a chance!! I rarely write reviews. I had to take the time to do it in this case!!
The Music Man (2003)
Who are you people? Robert Preston?
I was born in Gary and always thought this musical was a bit archaic. And now I read some of your comments. What are you all? About a hundred? Matthew Broderick is phenomenal. He practically makes this musical worthy of going down in history!!!! It's a beautiful cast, well choreographed numbers as well as great sets, costumes etc. I love Shirley Jones and Robert Preston, particularly in "Victor Victoria," However, their version is a cartoony 50's formula musical, which is fine. Think: Joe E. Brown does Al Jolson's "Jazz Singer!!!!" Boy are times a changin!!!! Give Broderick another chance!! He's reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood for me in this day and age; up there with Johnny Depp and a very few others. His version is also cartoony, but much more appealing due to the underlying depth of his character however subtle compared to the one dimensional portrayal by Preston. Check this version out!!!!
CSI: NY (2004)
What about a CSI Chicago?
Who would love to see a show like this that does great location work, done in probably our most gorgeous city, Chicago? The opening credits would show the skyline, the city has a great history of crime, and it is one of the most beautiful architecturally, as far as modern cities with a bit of history go. Sure we have had "Chicago Hope" and "E.R." but those shows rarely need actual location shooting due to the nature of their content. We certainly have the talented people, technology and experience with the aid of the original producers of the first "CSI" to pull this off. So come on everybody, especially fellow Chicagoans, lets see if we can make this happen. Respond to this message, they check these things!!!
Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Masquerade (2006)
Wasn't Liza phenomenal?
Yes, like her mom,(and me) maybe a bit too much partying, but look at that actress. She's a legacy Judy and Vincent would be proud of today, truly a legend in her own time! Her appearance on 'Criminal Intent' (here on New Zealand television- 23rd July 2007) headlined the previews of the week's coming shows! More Liza More!!!!!!!!!!!!Just found out from IMDb I need to write more for this to be accepted. OK. I became a huge Judy Garland fan after finding out my dad proposed to my mom at a Judy Garland concert on September 4th 1958, Chicago. Judy is a Goddess, and after all of the reading and research I've done;... Liza, from her appearances with Judy in concert and on television, as well as her own career, has matched her mom's charisma!!! Thanks Liza. Hope to see a lot more!!!
