Martyrs (2008)
Disturbing as it gets
I've always liked disturbing, odd, weird and unsettling films, but the kind that get into your mind due to moving something inside you, rather than just slicing people up, this is the film, that so far, has got inside my brain the deepest.
It is quite clear that things are going to go very bad after the first scene is over, how bad they go though, I'm not gonna give a lot of details, but I will only say, that what got me from this movie is the ..the sensation, that, even if most people committing horrible deeds out there have mental issues, or are plain evil, some may actually have a higher belief and seek something honestly... that is even more frightening to me.
The "violent" scenes aren't as uncomfortable to watch as the hopelessness and fanaticism from one side and the other.
The ending still confuses me. Do watch with nothing in mind, but don't expect this to be pretty.
À la folie... pas du tout (2002)
Quite good!
Audrey Tautou is definitely my favorite french actress, followed just by Isabelle Huppert ( I hope it's not misspelled...) This movie kept me interested, the colors and the light are lovely, and I must say I absolutely adore the fixation or well, the frequent use of the purple/violet shades of colour.
Besides those details I must admit the plot twist was interesting and the situations make perfect sense seen from both sides when not knowing the other, and then you find out what's really going on.
Take the time to watch it, it's a pretty good one.
Also if You have time check other movies starring Audrey, like Dirty pretty things, God is big and I'm small, of course Amelie,oh well, You can check on her on this site and find out more!
Strawberry Panic (2006)
Pretty,pretty,pretty!
It is a very enjoyable title, it might not offer a big deal of substance, but the love and the developing of the relationships sure provide good entertainment.
It is indeed a Yuri title, I won't start with the WHOLE explanation of this term, but I'll say it's used in this side of the world for romantic and/or sexual relationships among women,so if You find yourself offended by same gender love or the like, better refrain from this anime and enjoy any other of the almost countless Japanese productions that have a lot of everything for everyone.
Can't say much about the series because I don't want to spoil anything for you,but the characters I find easy to become fond of,I even liked the opening song and the art in general is soft and sweet.
So,go for it if you are curious,if You would prefer something maybe a little bit more serious you may wanna watch Maria-sama ga miteru, also located in an all girls school, but way more serious.
Sister My Sister (1994)
Disturbing
The song at the start lets you know it won't be all pretty, it's a film loaded with repression, fears, despair and a developing mental breakdown.
I strongly recommend everyone (who likes that kind of things) to watch it and are looking for a film that will make you think about how society can isolate it's members from both sides.
I do not think homosexuality is the big factor here, watch closely and you'll see it's more about hitting bottom line.
There are other movies based on sisters Papin, unfortunately I haven't watched any of these, I can tell all of you tho, that these British actresses are of very fine quality, the entire ambient is dark and makes you inhale deeper.
This is my first review ever, so I hope it helps anyone to decide on whether watch Sister my sister or not.
