Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Change of Heart (1998)
Yet again. No consequences!
Im sick to death of characters in these shows acting completely abysmal and reckless yet only getting a slap on the wrist and sent to bed without their dinner!
Worf condemns a brave agent to certain death that had vital information to save millions of people because of his spiritual connection with Dax.
So what does Sisko do after Worfs betrayal? Files a report, blurt's out afew new rules about he and Dax are not allowed to work together anymore and then he sympathises with Worf's decision! Effectively giving Worf the thumbs up!
I love this series but it truly lets the vast majority of characters get away with way way to much! This episode and many others should be renamed "Crime swept under the rug".
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: Mercenary (1996)
Nothing shy of Amazing!
I was a big fan of the show and the movies prior to this episode, but when i saw this masterpiece i was gobsmacked!
Not only did Michael Hurst ace as a director, but having the plot 90% focus on two people throughout and still keep it engaging was brilliant. Always reminded me as a kid that sometimes its not just about black or white mentalities, the mercenary sure clearly was a killer and a clever one at that but by the end you could feel through the screen that he had a heart! Which Hercules notices during the episode. Especially when he see's him with his family.
Hercules and Derk saving each other throughout in the desert then herc putting him on the right track was probably the most heart warming end that iv ever seen! This is certainly one of the best episodes in the Herc universe!
Btw - Those sand creatures were badass!!!
M*A*S*H: Operation Friendship (1981)
True colour
Personally I loved the Klinger/Winchester part, but I was never more frustrated with the Hawkeye/BJ area.
Just like anyone you would feel indebted to a degree for someone helping you out in a time of need, there are certain people in life that will exploit that emotion for their own benefit. Loved Winchesters cutting the ties moment with Klinger at the end lol. Perfect!
Hawkeye was a jumped up egomaniac in this episode. BJ was a dull witted moron also! Neither Hawkeye nor BJ we're thinking of their patients or they're duty as doctors, it was pure ego soup! The specialist they brought in sure had a big head, however that was only because he knew he was the best man for the job!
They should thank that the man was a professional or else he'd have purposely botched BJs operation and thumped Hawkeye's smug superior face while storming out of the OR!
Sinbad of the Seven Seas (1989)
Childhood favourite!
Damn where to start?!
First yes i love this movie! No matter what! I saw it first as a child and i'am now 40, and still it gets a ten 👍
From start to finish its a mish mash of clunky dialogue, go nowhere plots, kickass fights , hilarious dialogue and random characters.
First off the amount of different ways the characters are described are mind boggling!
Sinbad -
Great Hero
The bravest man ever born
The greatest prince of the sea's
Conqueror of the seven oceans
Greatest sailor of all the seas
Prince Ali-
The handsome and brave young price Ali
Does nothing but complain about where to find Alina. When shes never left Basra (Idiot)
Poochi -
The Dwarf
Little Poochi
The clever dwarf
The loyal little dwarf
Midget (credits)
Kantu- (he's Japanese)
The Chinese soldier of fortune
Samurai (credit)
Viking warrior-
Yeah decent fighter but thats about it.
The Bald Cook-
Cheropplis
Greek
Ahmed (credits)
Alina-
Fresh as the dew
Sweet as a blushing rose
Soukra-
Bloody useless as a Sorceress or anything else
Jaffar-
The Evil Wizard
The Wicked Wizard of Basra
Satanic sorcerer of Basra
The Calif- (The most clueless man in existence, who's only talent is flaffing a feather fan when he's either nervous, hypnotised or getting undeserved adulation)
Kind and wise
Lord of the Faithful
Btw this beloved ruler has a trap door 1 meter in front of his throne leading to a pit filled with snakes next to a torture chamber.
Rock man-
I truely think he just wanted to screw Sinbad in a-big way! Uggghhh uhhhhhggg! 🤣
Then Sinbad is like "no mate your not my type" rips his head off and thats that 👍
Sinbad swam leagues to see him so i understand why rock man expected more than destruction.
Amazon Queen-
Bugger the sacred gem. I'll stay on that island forever! Just so long as she never takes the necklace off 👍
Sinbad quote " The Amazon queen is a mind vampire, and she can suck any mans ......" ok moving on lol
Ghost King-
Ok Jaffar proved he is an idiot right here! WHY send them to a place ON PURPOSE that holds 50% of your power dumbass?!! Send your dark winds to blow them to Antarctica!! Let them battle penguins!
The knights rising up through the sands though really got me as a kid! Loved it!
Slime monster-
Whoever thought up Kira's dad was Poe's long lost great great great grand child 😂 and was on similar stuff. Hilarious. Kira btw Bad ass👍
I love the fights in this movie but this bunch has the best! That guy that jumps down from 2 stories and just gets belted right off by Sinbad is hilarious🤣 ripped off arm 👍loved that!
Ok bossman, well his aim is crap but Sinbad is in zero danger other than a plank falling on him. If anything the fool blob helps more than he hinders so yeah. Done.
Jaffar has to be the most over the top loveable bad guys in history! I mean seriously, after Sinbad grabs the 2nd gem and mocks him he jumps back and gasps in such a way i had tears running down my face 🤣 just one of many moments! John Steiner is an unforgettable icon of this movie
Don't even get me started on the snake rope, puppet piranha's or Sinbad dancing in a chain for ten minutes with a man that looks like his competition for Mr Olympia!
Ok well jokes aside i love this movie and if i live another 40 years, ill still be watching it well and truly over some academy award winning movies any day👍 however its SO fun to take the piss out of lol!
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Homeward (1994)
Evil Intent
Captain Picard has shown throughout the run of the series to be a skilled leader, trusted friend and 'to a degree' possessing a heart.
This episode however shines a very horrific light on that bald dome of his! He and the rest of his gang 'save Crusher' are more than happy too allow and watch innocent people die.
The Prime Directive is simply a law of non interference in the development of another species. Not to sit back and let people die from a natural disaster! Btb how many times have we seen the PD trashed when it's suitable to do so? Over far less important issues?
This is one of the few times when the majority of the enterprise crew behave worse than Q on a bad day. The casual disregard for life they had is sickening. 'Looking remorseful and staring at the floor dosent cut it'.
Also after the planets troposphere is destroyed Picard then decides to make a pathetic speech to justify his inaction he then runs into his office and gives the bridge to Riker. Sad.
Nikolai was the shining light in this episode. He was willing to risk everything simply because it was the right thing to do. Hats off to Paul Sorvino! His acting was spot on.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Symbiosis (1988)
Good episode with a terrific ending!
I'am not going to bother going to much into how this was broadcast during the war on drugs stuff. Other than it's annoying when shows bow to political pressures during the time of filming.
OK now to the show. I found it to be a very well acted episode that always keeps me putting it on when I start watching season one. Simple but engaging storytelling about a world of junkies being used by souless dealers.
Picards decision to not inform the addicts about the true situation by hiding behind the Prime Directive however was quite flimsy, while Crushers emotional and professional concerns were 100% perfect.
In short despite Picards flawed arguments he ended up making it right by withholding the tech to fix the bumpkins deteriorating ships thus ending the sick cycle.
The icing on the cake for me however is that the Brekkians end up being stranded on the druggies home world as they stupidly beamed down with them with no working ships to leave in! Perfect Karma.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Allegiance (1990)
Very enjoyable episode!
This episode is so wonderful on so many levels!
The fundamental theme is obviously 'how would you respond when you're confronted with a strange situation'
The Captain is abducted along with 3 other very different species and imprisoned. Whilst a duplicate of them runs amok in their place! Sounds boring enough on paper but the way the episode unravels it's pure genius!
Enterprise area - At what point do you look at someone you've known, respected and trusted for years and call them out on their behaviour at the risk of being called a mutineer and ending your career? The seeds of doubt that the phoney Picard sows amongst the crew starts out benign enough then slowly grows to that critical point. Picard's singing for one was hilarious and a decent enough clue that he was an imposter. Taking them into the Pulsar however was just pure madness and had zero purpose. I'm actually surprised Data didn't ark up and criticise Picard's decision.
Prison/Lab - This area for me is the best part of the episode. Such opposite character's interacting was a joy to watch. Esoqq and Kovas back and forth especially was great!
While Picard eventually solved the meaning behind their imprisonment thanks to some quick thinking after the fake Bolion reveals knowledge she couldn't possibly know, I think Esoqq was the one to clue onto the truth before any of them! " Maybe our enemy is watching... from inside" and " How can we be sure your a Mizarian? " when he's talking to Kova. Quite astute for someone everyone thinks is just a brutish thug. He was definitely my favourite in this episode.
The ending was very satisfying when the bridge crew contained the wretched aliens in the force field to give them a taste of their own medicine!
Overall I really like this episode however the only grievance I have is I would have loved to have seen afew shots of the Doppelgängers of Esoqq and Kova on their world!! Haha that would be priceless.
Btw - just as an observation, some of the camera shots had a serious ABBA vibe to it lol 😂
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Realm of Fear (1992)
We've all been there!
Fear of flying or scared in crowded places. We've all got some level of anxiety. Personally I'm terrified of flying, and I was booked with my family to fly to Scotland just before the Covid pandemic hit and I was so relieved that it did as all international flights were canceled. We're rebooked for 2024 and Reg is my hero in leading up to it.
I really understand Reg in this episode. His acting is so perfect that he can relay his fear so well. O'Briens talk with him was great! The key point is that you can only be brave when your afraid and Reg overcome his fear by transporting and then overcame an even greater fear by the effects he experienced in the transportation! He's probably the bravest one out of the whole bunch. He's is an inspiration. He was such an underused character.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Code of Honor (1987)
Definitely not great but definitely not racist!
Wow sometimes people are just so easily offended it's actually quite embarrassing and sad. The Star Trek universe is filled to the brim with every conceivable race and culture, with there own unique laws and morality!
The Ligonians are simply just one of those unique cultures! The fact they are an African looking group I can't see how anyone finds this awkward. They arnt portrayed as backward or dumb. They have transporter technology for heaven's sake! There has been plenty of races and peoples in Star Trek that have tech but still prefer upholding there ancient ways!
Enjoyable episode overall but some people unfortunately see racism whenever they simply walk into a room or turn on the TV.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Duet (1993)
Yawn
How many times are TV shows going rehash this cartoonishly pathetic version of Germany in WW2? Yes I get the whole Bajor trauma issue but this script is just so see through and obvious is almost funny.
So here you have a mentally ill guy that decided to surgically alter himself into someone he considers to be evil........for some reason. Insists to Kira and the others that he's not this guy, then admits he is even though he's not...... stupid story and again so cartoonishly dumb im surprised it made it off the ground let alone made it into production!
Thankfully the writer's only touched on this foolishness briefly in future episodes, went on to create true masterpiece's and left this useless episode in the dustbin were it belongs.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Pegasus (1994)
Stupidity and Hypocrisy
Ok where to start!? First off I love the episode as it's very well acted and engaging.
Now for the bile. I'm not going to cover ALL the times Picard and Riker show how stupid they behave, but I'll try.
First off is it my imagination or in the past has Picard kept the entire crew in ignorance due to an Admiral's direct orders on more than one occasion? Yet he bristled up like crazy and threatened Riker with a demotion for doing the exact same! Hypocrisy at its best.
Second, Riker did the right thing in defending his former Captain. Pressman wasn't putting the crew in immediate danger. He was simply testing a new piece of technology that some stuffed shirts at Starfleet command didn't approve of. Yet Rikers apparently torn by guilt about it. Every time Picard broke the prime directive Riker should have had him thrown in the brig after relieving him of command.
Third, I'm surprised Starfleet hasn't found a way to have phaser's banned throughout the federation, as it would be unfair to their enemies if they had a chance to defend themselves. I don't know what morons agreed to that dumb treaty but they should go down in history as war criminals or saboteurs.
Fourth, Picard and Riker should have been content to stay inside the asteroid until they rotted. However they feel completely justified in breaking there foolish moral code in using the evil tech when it can prove helpful.
In conclusion Terry really carried this episode for me not only an actor but as a character because I considered him to be 100% correct. The Enterprise crew was the biggest let down in this instance for their sheer stupidity.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Game (1991)
No Apologies?
Damn if I was Wesley I'd be more than alittle ticked off that not one of the bridge crew including his own mother never even uttered a "Thanks for saving our useless hides" or "Sorry for trying to turn you into a zombie"!
Sure you can use the argument that they were all being controlled against a unique Alien gadget but that's a cop out excuse. Wesley and for the most part Robin resisted to even begin playing the game because of how it started becoming obviously infectious. Riker being Riker was the easiest person to fall victim to this game given his base character but Troi, I suppose her empathetic abilities were focused on her desert bowl maybe? Beverly? Geordi? Picard?? Worf even!!! I'd love to have seen the moment any of the possessed crew compelled him into putting on a headset and play a game!
The fact they succumbed and Wes never did merited at the very least a heartfelt "Im so very sorry for being so weak"
But no they just return to business as usual and send the hero on his merry way lol! Great entertaining episode but the ending was seriously lacking in responsibility from any of the bridge crew!
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Darkness and the Light (1997)
Completely justified! I'm referring to the Cardassian!
Kira and her gang felt justified for murdering any person on their planet just for being there OK. But they didn't seem to care if they were soldiers or civilians. The past caught up with most of them and were killed but not Kira! She still feels like she's the one hard done by, and to a degree she is. However her putting the unborn kid in obvious danger is inexcusable. She always seems to avoid responsibility no matter what she does to justify her past. She should have been written to be killed off in the series. This episode would have been a perfect opportunity, save the baby and let Kira accept responsibility by dying. Not let her dodge it again.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Blaze of Glory (1997)
Ah Eddington!
I used to hate this guy! The way he toyed with Sisko drove me up the wall lol. I'm sure that many of you will agree.
This is the episode I finally liked him.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Sanctuary (1993)
Episode you love to hate
Well what can be said. Three million disreputable refugees show up on DS9's doorstep and are welcomed with open arms, fed and given a planet . This however doesn't seem to be good enough. They want to steal as they like and demand to be settled on a world where the rightful population has just survived a massive trauma!
If I was Sisko I would kick their ungrateful behinds right back through the eye of the universe! Good riddance!
No wonder the dominion let them escape, it was probably a strategic move to inflict the Alpha Quadrant with these flakey creeps.
Good episode however. Actors were spot on.
