fantastic..

this series is stunning in every way..the story of Suh Jang Geum, the first woman to ever become the personal royal physician is a gripping story with more plot twists than a plate of spaghetti. the series follows Jang Geum's life in and out of the royal palace in 16th century Korea. Without giving anything away, i just want to say i found the characters very inspiring, as well as entertaining. from a production point of view, the beauty of the sets/costumes, art-dept stuff, the acting from all the major characters was incredible, the story was completely fascinating and the characters were just awesome. if this is the stuff they get to watch in Korea, i'm jealous. i'm thinking of moving. Also, on the DVDs i got (3 box set Korean produced) the English subtitles were really good. which, as someone who mostly watches non-English language movies, is a HUGE point in their favour!!

Krrish (2006)

surprisingly good

i rented this movie after seeing the trailer and thinking "aaah, bollywood has discovered hong Kong style rope-work" and wondering what they would have done with it. hrithik has never struck me as a heavyweight in the acting world (although he's gorgeous and he is one of--if not the--best male dancer in bollywood) but in koi mil gaya and krrish i was really proud of the work he did. very different from the normal type of character he plays, and subtle, too. (i'm trying not to spoil the story here).

overall, i'd say the last 45 minutes or so was the best part of the movie, when it got more into what he had to do and away from the lovey dovey stuff which, considering the characters they wrote for those girls, was extremely disappointing and given the heightened intelligence Krishna is supposed to be endowed with, almost unbelievable.

i'm glad i saw it and came away with a new respect for hrithik as an actor..

i do think the cover shots for the DVD and the movie menu might have been partly inspired by takeshi kaneshiro in "Returner"...anyone else know what i'm talking about?!
