Unsung Hero (2024)
A beautiful tale of true human emotions
The emotions shown in 'Unsung Hero' are depicted with accuracy and confidence to such an extent that at points you actually forget you are watching a film and you become part of the universe which Joel Smallbone has skillfully created. These reasons and many more which are too long to place on paper are why I believe this is a powerful film.
However, there is no mention of Jesus in the entire film which I thought very perplexing as the Smallbone family singers are all about Jesus including Rebecca. I still give it a 8/10 for a wonderful family film with true human emotions.
The film I'm dying to see this year is 'The Firing Squad'. My entire church is going to that.
Chariots of Fire (1981)
Powerful Christian movie......
Powerful Christian movie......I first saw it when i was in the eighth grade and it has been my favorite movie ever since. I have a lot of difficulty ever seeing any movie take its place.
Chariots of Fire is the inspiring true story of two runners, Eric Liddell, a Scottish missionary- turned-rugby player-turned sprinter, and Harold Abrahams, an intelligent, dedicated student and son of a Jewish immigrant. Liddell runs for God, Abrahams to fight the anti- Semitism he senses in post-World War I Britain. As these two rivals train for the 1924 Olympics, the audience comes to know their strengths and weaknesses and the people who were important to them in their personal lives.
Many people give up on this film within the first fifteen minutes because of the unique storytelling at the beginning. The script is brilliant but hard to follow for those not savvy on British culture or history. The movie, as a whole, was truly made to be seen at least twice, so nuanced is the excellent, Oscar-winning screenplay.
The cast is near perfect, the best performance being Ian Holm's Oscar-nominated and dazzlingly humorous portrayal of trainer Sam Mussabini. Vangelis' Oscar-winning score is now considered cliché and is often-parodied, but when seen in its natural element (the film) completely and beautifully fits. It is a shame so many people only know the main theme of the film when the score contains many absolutely beautiful moments.
Chariots of Fire is very underrated and unseen by most in my generation. True, it's not a movie for everyone, and i can see why some don't like it. But all things considered, it is, in my opinion, near perfection in the world of cinema.
Journey to Hell (2022)
Must See for All Christians
I saw this film like others at an advanced screening. I know the film hits theaters on August 5, 2022. Essentially it's a Christian movie that speaks of hell is a real place. But, ultimately it is a call to every true Believer in Christ to courageously lead and tell others about a Savior Christ the Lord. Men and women everywhere must turn from sin and trust in Christ who died for our sins and was raised from the dead.
Rain Man (1988)
Good film
"Rain Man" is structured like your typical road movie. Our hero travels from one point to the next, and by the end of the journey, has come to a moment of personal realisation. Cruise starts off as a cocky car salesman, but by the end of the film has renounced his love for money and learnt instead to appreciate his autistic brother. Like all road movies, the film is episodic, filled with musical montages and punctuated by shots of roads, sunsets and horizons. But despite these clichés, the film works tremendously well. Cruise is great at playing a cocky jerk and Hoffman's autistic routine is affecting. Audiences think they're responding with sympathy to Hoffman's disabilities, but really he represents a big child. He represents that period of innocence between disillusionment and nothingness. We want to hug Hoffman, protect him and shower him with sympathy. And so does Cruise, who uses Hoffman to reconnect to a past life he has long since abandoned. Through Raymond, Charlie remembers simpler times, when the world wasn't all about fancy cars and slick suits. Midway into the film we learn that when Raymond was a child he accidentally dropped Charlie into a bath of hot water. It is this failure at an adult responsibility that leads to Raymond being exiled from the family. As punishment, his parents send the young autistic boy to a mental health clinic.
