The Reflection (2023)
Stellar and taut movie that offers a big surprise!
The acting combined with intense cinematography makes this film positively gripping. The Reflection has the pace of both a good mystery and a supernatural film yet leads to a subject both heartbreaking and relevant. The soundtrack adds to the suspense. Particularly intense is the phone call in which Megan Taylor describes her trust and her love for her partner who turns out to be narcissistic and abusive. The scene where she is staring into the mirror with both confidence and a bit of swagger turning into concern and then almost panic like doubt is particularly riveting. It leads to a boiling and gut wrenching conclusion. The movie addresses a huge issue in society in a tumultuous display that embraces the justice in all of us.
The Vanishing of Sidney Gomez (2022)
Riveting and Frightening
To say that this movie is both riveting and frightening is an understatement. This movie is so intense I felt my heart was being torn to shreds. The scared pleading from Sidney entombed in the trunk of the car while she is on the cellphone with the police dispatcher.is agonizing. The dispatcher knows she is being driven around likely to her demise. The professionalism and calm from the dispatcher sets in stark contrast to Sidney's distress. I feel both that I was in the car trunk with Sidney and also at the dispatchers desk. Police sirens abound. The movie ends with the report of Sidney missing after her cellphone dies. I cannot think of a worse situation than to have a child kidnapped.
Hate Kills (2020)
Lessons about hatred
This riveting movie about the stabbing death of a young Muslim mother teaches the viewer that hatred is no solution. The hater has a large price to pay as the hatred eats up his own life. Hate crimes are on the rise as polarizing politicians and a ratings hungry media sensationalize the divisions between us.

The narration is soothing and the graphics are resonant. I watch this throughout the day when the frenzy of life amps me up. This brings me back to joy.
