Heart of Stone (2023)
I was expecting a cheesy but fast paced action flick, so I wasn't disappointed
Apparently, some of the people here reviewing this film must've thought they were about to watch an Academy award nominated drama. I'm having a hard time expecting what other explanation there could be for the disappointment and hate these reviews!?
After watching the trailer, my girlfriend, and I decided to give it a whirl for a couple of reasons. First, we both like fast paced action films. Next, ever since watching James Bond and Mission impossible films as a kid, I like spy movies involving a secret agency that operates in the shadows,. Last but not least, (fortunately, both my girlfriend and I were in lockstep on this one)... Gal Gadot! I can't help but feel like humanity finally got it right and it's for female perfection😅.
Sure, the film might've been almost as enjoyable watched on "mute", but "mind blowing dialogue" was not exactly expected from Netflix produced action film. Even though not much time was spent on character development, there was "just enough" so that each character motivations were understood, if not a tad ridiculous.
I watched films like this, so that I can shut my brain off from the outside world for a couple hours. I read some complaints That the technology used in this film doesn't really exist. All I can say is, I would hate to read your reviews of Star Wars films. I was entertained. My girlfriend was entertained. If you're looking for fun, the slightly above average action film certainly delivers that. Manage your expectations accordingly...
The Mandalorian: Chapter 23: The Spies (2023)
Seasons, worst episode, followed by the seasons best!
Spoiler Free: The garbage that will forever be known as the "jack black episode" had me wondering if the show had jumped the proverbial shark. Everything that has been "teased" this season finally pays off. While I wish that Disney would release all of their episodes at once, apparently they know what they're doing. "Waiting for Wednesday" is some thing my 12 year old son, and I talk about all week. Instead of wasting a weekend of our lives, binge watching an entire season, the Mandalorian is the topic of conversation for a couple of months...
This episode had it all. The Mandalorian's fighting in battle is what we all love to see. Grogu doing adorable Grogu things brings a smile to everyone's face. Furthering the character development of Bo Katan Kryze (who somehow became the main character of this season) has been a pleasure to watch. And there were more subtle Easter eggs tying the show's storyline to the Star Wars universe we've come to know. Throw in a monster and some heroic deaths...yah, this is why we love this show.
Tulsa King: Happy Trails (2023)
Outstanding Episode!
No Spoilers: Sometimes it's OK if a show is somewhat predictable. You don't always have to have crazy plot twists for a show to be enjoyable. While I haven't been shocked by the plot, the show, this episode in particular, I've just been a pleasure to watch. Great character development! You feel like you really know the characters. You find yourself caring about what happens to them. I can't wait to see the last two episodes! Yes, Sylvester Stallone is obviously a true Hollywood star. He commands every scene that he's in. Sometimes TV series that feature a movie star focus so heavily on the star but the rest of the characters just don't really matter to you. That's not the case here. Stallone is amazing, but he still allows the supporting cast to shine as well.
