Extrapolations: 2046: Whale Fall (2023)
3 out of 10 for originality, creativity. 10/10 for what it is.
Animals would go extinct and it is a real possibility. This series isn't about creating conflicts, drama, or make you entertained. It's a series of a very possibly outcome on the near future.
The story itself isn't much to be talked about. What drawn me in is the fact that this COULD happen. This is so depressing if you invest your time to watch it and probably super boring if you just half-heartedly watch it.
Skip it if you want twisting plot and dramatic endings. Don't watch it if you are into fancy special effects. I kept on getting up to move around so that I feel somehow distracted a bit because this is so depressing and heavy. Maybe it's just me and maybe you would feel differently.
Invasion (2021)
Intense show from start to finish
Let's get it out of the way for what this show IS NOT. It's NOT a show with a lot of combat or emphasis on combats. It's NOT a show which you typically expect with a lot of actions everywhere.
To watch this show, you have to stop looking at an alien invasion from a movies viewer's perspective, where you see aliens fleets fly from out of space closing to earth. Aliens talking to each others. You may also expect world leaders to come together to make a plan.
In this show, you are just a nobody basically. You could be anywhere from Japan to the US to UK to Afghanistan. You could be a housewife with kids. A kid going on a field trip. You are looking at Alien invasion from those people's perspectives. The film does a superb job for not letting you having any info outside of those people's perspectives.
I think that's why it got such low score. Because people are not used to an alien film from this kind of perspective. I think the story is great and all characters are likable. Aliens are NOT the main focus. They are just catalysts for story to move forward.
If you really follow the show and take your time. You start to immerse yourself into this because the way stories are told. You start to realize that if alien invasion were to happen, this may be how you would experience as a nobody.
Don't get me wrong that there are some really important roles who actually participate in combating aliens. However, you also don't get those usual view point as watching other alien invasion theme that you can know the whole picture.
The best or worst part of this series is that you can only know what is limited to any of the main roles information. You see what they see and you hear what they hear. You of, course, have a more overall picture of what happens because you are watching this event unfold from multiple angles from different main characters.
It may seem weird but this series really get me to immerse myself into this world because how little information I have as the show started. I couldn't stop watching it and I think it's one of the best alien theme series I've watched.
Take a point off because I know that if there were any alien invasion, things would probably end in a few minutes or seconds given that their technology would just be so superior that there is no way we have a chance and there are also so many logic or scientific flaws in this series . Nonetheless, for any alien them tv series or movie, we can just kind of view it as what it is because otherwise this genre would cease to exist.
