Midnight Ride (1990)
Joker vs Dudikoff?
What if The Joker kidnapped Selena Kyle, took her on a crazy murderous roadtrip to Arkham to kill his doctor.
Chased by the Batmobile?
Then You have Midnight ride. Just switch out Batman for Michael Dudikoff and bang!
This is an amazing little horrorflick. Hamill is psycho killer Justin, who happens to kidnap a woman on his way to avenge himself on his doctor, Mitchum. But hot on her trail is her cop husband, Dudikoff.
It wont win any Oscars but its really actionpacked with some cool kills.
Hamill is amazing as the wisecracking, laughing, insane Justin who even tries to "cure" the heroine with some old fashioned ETC..
Its never boring and thats it strong point.
Highly recommended.
Night Shift (2023)
Had potential
Ayoung woman gets a job in a shabby motel when ghosts starts to haunt her.
This had potent2bu no, the directors had to pull a tired old twist wich I saw coming before the movie even started to get spooky.
The girl is a serial killer wich was obvious when the news said a killer had escape.
She acted to wierd to be innocent.
Now, for once why cant we get a straìght up ghost story without silly twists. And the ending was totally idiotic. Id rather watch Psycho.
Missed opportunity...again. This is why modern movies suck.
Also lots of jumpscares. It wasnt totally rotten but nothing id never watch again..
Doomsday Meteor (2023)
Why?
At first I thought, Hey! Asylum have made a tiny bit better cgi but then it went to hell. And when they sent out an astronaut in a regular motorcycle helmet I gave up. Asylum movies works when they do spoofs like Sharknado. But this? Its just sad. The actors are laughable and its sad to see Caroline Williams of Texas chainsaw 2 fame look like she just want to escape. Alternatively she looks like she dont know what shes doing.
Its ridiculously serious and not tongue in cheek.
Im so happy I didnt pay to watch this piece of garbage. It doesnt need to exist! Why? If you cant make something good why even bother?
Avoid like the plague.
Cuando acecha la maldad (2023)
Do not beleive the hype.
I actually liked director Damians previous Terrified but this?
Prepare yourself for a bunch of the most stupied main characters You have ever seen.
God is dead and people get possessed everywhere. Two fools dumps a possessed man, about to give birth to Satan himself, in a ditch. Then all hell breaks lose. Sounds fun? Its not. Only reason this is so liked is the gore effects. And yes there are some good gore but nothing new. I even think I saw CGI blood in some places. It just shows how soft people have gotten.
The idiotic main characters makes misstakes after misstakes and it actually drags the movie down. You have noone to root for.
It also takes itself deadly serious wich almost makes it laughable.
I give this a 4/10 mainly because 1: I didnt get bored. And 2: Its well acted despite the stupidity.
Is it unique? No. It it bloody? Yes, here and there but nothing outstanding.
Next time I hope the director gives us something to root for instead of braindead imbeciles.
La tumba de la isla maldita (1973)
Tomb of Sarah is the right title
Im suprised the majority og viewers dont seem to know that this actually is an adaption (unofficial) of F. G Lorings Victorian vampire story The tomn of Sarah, Knowing this makes the movie far more interesting.
Archeologists uncover the grave of Hannah, The queen of vampires, with expected results.
Andrew Pine 9lays the lead and over all its an atmospheric little gem. Especially if you dont expect any actionfilled romp. It takes its time and we can sit back and enjoy.
Higly recommended. Especially for fans of the novel or gothic horror!
The movie exists in two versions. Color and black and white, I personally prefer the colored version.
A Creature Was Stirring (2023)
What a waste of time
Unlikable characters, so-so acting and a director who think hes smarter than he is. Oh SPOILERS its NOT A CREATURE FEATURE wich some have led us to beleive but another Twas-all-in-her-head pos we have seen to many times.
If I have to say something positive its that the practical effects are nicely done and no CGI. The lighting is also well done, just to bad it didnt come with a nicely done movie.
I see a trend. Plothole filled movies that tries to suprise but lacks to do so. Much like the awfull Cobweb and the one with the woman in the basement (twas so bad I dont even remember the title but it had Bill Skarsgård in it)
I wouldnt recommend this dreck to anyone. Oh and the first half is just talking.. So, You have been warned.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023)
How to NOT make an adaptation
Movie review.
Pet sematary 2 Bloodlines 2023
Oh man. This came out of left feild. Didnt know they made another. I HATED the remake from a few years back and somehow this is almost worse!
Focusing on Jud in the 60ies and the Tim Baterman story. In the novel and the Mary Lambert movie it was a short segment about a dad burying his dead soldier son in the mic mac burial. Those minutes in the old movie are 10 times more scarier then this shite.
The "dead" are not creepy and look almost normal. The lore is changed so now you have to destroy the eyes on the returned!
It lacks atmosphere, logic and a comprehensive story.
Stars Henry Thomas, Pam Grier, Thomas Jane and David Duchovny.
How the F can they screw up this story (One of Kings best) so many times? This movie sucks!
1/5 and the one point is for the photography wich isnt half bad. Avoid!
Malum (2023)
Just another pointless remake
I never quite liked Last shift. The premise was good but the downer ending made me not care. This have the same problem.
A rookie takes the last shift at a police station set to be demolished. Her father, who helped catch a serial killer cult leader , John Malum, worked there but went crazy and killed himself.
So she wants that last shift to find answers. Now, basically its a haunted house movie set in a police station.
Unfortunately, and here comes spoilers, She dies in the end and all her struggles are for nothing. Why do it like that? Why not make her efforts count?
As is, its just a wasted 90 minutes of someone aimlessly walking around seeing things. And ffs just leave the station!
Pretty decent effects and acting. But still wasted time.
Vikingulven (2022)
The Norvegians suprises again!
Yet again the north suprises with a good horror movie! Late in 22 we had Troll and before that Dead snow.
A young girl gets wounded in a werewolf attack in norway.
While her mum wich is a police tries to hunt the werewolf the young girl starts to show..wolfy tendensies.
Great practical effects that echo Rick Bakers American werewolf and the CGI isnt bad either. Unfortunately i watched the dubbed version wich sounds..odd to be mild. But other than that its a real treat for fans of Werewolf movies.
Went in with low expectations and was really suprised! Got gore and atmosphere! Highly recommended.
M3GAN (2022)
Fun yet very unrealistic
So M3gan is a doll who goes beserk killing people and ...well You prob know the synopsis.
I wasn't exactly expecting much but was seriously entertained.
Its very silly. I mean come on. A toymaker invents a robot, ai controlled with the strenght of the terminator?
She also acts like a "human" in that she enjoys the kills. Maybe it would be plausible in say 20years? But not in 2023!
If you can get over that its a funny, entertaining movie.
Not much in the gore department but fun enough.
Somehow i like this better then the tiredsome Chucky series that has no stakes whatsoever.
I think they are gonna need to explain M3gans wierd "humanity" somehow if its gonna be a series. Maybe by saying the AI has turned into a soul or something because it is silly.
Anyway. Recommended.
The Canterville Ghost (2021)
Wilde is spinning in his grave!
Review
Canterville ghost 2022
A 2 episode version of Oscar Wildes novel starring Anthony Stewart Head, Giles from Buffy, as the titular ghost.
Ok. As a kidfriendly adventure it might be ok. But i HAVE to compare it to the source material. And it sucks! There only one redeeming thing and thats head as the ghost. But concidering the material it doesnt help.
Its ofcourse set in contemporay times because...
They weaved in the twins looking for treasure with two redhaired gipsy twingirls, a drama about the Otises going bankrupt, a rivaling thing btween the otises and the canterville family and a... horseriding adventure?
Gone are the eerie quality of wildes novel, yes it was fun at times but also dramatic and ghostly. Gone are the ghastly desguises the ghosts use traded for wonky CGI , They even give Sir Simon a talking familiar in the form of a rat!
The trip into the 4th dimension wich we never see in the novel, when Vorginia is redeeming the ghost is tirned into a bloody courtroom drama!
Fair to say i HATE this version and will give it a 1/5 because it is well acted but utter trash! Wilde should haunt the team behind this travesty!
The Gate (1987)
No stakes but fun
The gate is a nostalgic look back to the 80:ies. It reminds me of Goonies, Silver bullet and explorers.
The effects are still fine but the biggest problem is that you never feel afraid for the main characters. The little demons can easily be stomped and the "Big" demon just seem to want to pat Dorff on the head and give him a gift of an extra eye! Only time suspension rises is when a zombie attacks from out of the wall.
Its also abit.. annoying in the acting department. Noone does a bad job but theres alot of screaming kids.
Another thing. Not spoiling anything but how the hell are they gonna explain everything in the end?
All and all I recommend The gate. Its a cozy time, dreaming back to happier times.
Killer's Moon (1978)
Comedic gold!
4 LSD stoned psychos escape from their "Dream therapy " believing they are dreaming. They come across a group of stranded girls and mayhem ensues,
Now, this has been called Uks sleaziest film, video nasty aso.. But come on! Yes, there are rapes and murders but in some weird way you just cant take it serious!
From funny dialogue to one person fainting time and time again, to a three legged dog and a wardrobe straight from A clockwork orange!
Its obviously played for laughs. And even Birkinshaw says in an interview that they made it for fun! To entertain!
In sweden it was on the video nasty list but there's nothing here to warrant that title.
I was truly entertained thruout the 90min runtime! And i would recommend it to fans of over the top 70:ies cinema!
Just expect plotholes, goofy effects and overacting galore!
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
One wild ride!
I see alot if negative reviews here. People must have lost their sense for fun! So, Fuhrman looks abit on the old side compared to part one but man, shes one cool character!
Overall the movie is a wild ride with a really cool twist! Esther is becoming a horror icon and i hope they revive her somehow for a sequel. Id love to see more of her twisted mind on the screen.
So i highly recommend this gem! A movie filled with psychos and some pretty graphic kills!
Dont beleive the sourpuss people.. This rocked!
Day Shift (2022)
Good old fun!
I wont get into the story since its described on this very page but Im gonna say i was positively suprised! Yes its dumb mindless action but what a ride!
It feels like a good companion to classics such as Dusk to Dawn, Fright night and Lost boys. People disliking this must be very bitter or boring. Or maybe just need something to complain about.
Its gory (although it has some wonky CGI) Fun with some great action pieces. Only thing i didnt care for was all the rap music, but thats just because its not my thing.
Higly recommended!
Allegoria (2022)
Amateur hour
Some decent effects in a movie thats both boring and badly made. The stories "twists" rarely makes sense. And it has this artsy fartsy feel, like the filmmaker thought he was contributing to high art. Plus the sound is very uneven, sometimes you cant hear anything only for the volume to suddenly go bursting high.
Again a quote like "Just because you can make a movie doesnt mean you should" makes sense.
Dissapointing.
