Wraith (2017)
Try to get past the bad teen acting
All the negative reviews about the teen actress spot on. If you can look past that, it is somewhat watchable because the other actors are ok, and of course the priest is from the Alien franchise and a solid actor.
The ghostly effects are low budget but the scene where the ghost saves the teen is good. The movie could have been filmed in the 70's based on the budget they had for ghostly effects.
Finding the secret staircase should have been more deeply researched. I owned a house with a secret staircase and it is cool to research why they are there.
I think you can be pro abortion and still like the movie. Some reviewers are just extremists and can't handle points of view that are not consistent with their own. If it was a high budget movie, the idea would get extra tomato's for freshness.
This film is certainly in the 4.5 range, and maybe 4 if you can't get over the teen actress. I will say that the casting director should never be hired again for such a blunder. And I will avoid films by this Director.
George Carlin: You Are All Diseased (1999)
Wow. Did he have it wrong.
2 years before 9/11 did this guy have airport security wrong. He wanted to eliminate it altogether and what we needed was what it is today at a minimum.
He rants for several minutes on a subject that now most intelligent people understand as a person who is totally ignorant of safety for travelers and proper security.
Had he been on one of those planes on 9/11, he would have regretted doing that stupid comedy routine. He would have wished for 10x the security.
And this also is a good demonstration of narcissistic comedy. Where the comedian thinks that their opinion is the one that matters.
Look. I loved his 1960's baseball routine. But this was Carlin having some weird ideology about security that is opposite of what we really should have been doing at that time in 1999.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
High hopes but dashed
I was excited about seeing this newest story be much better than Crystal Skull, which should not have been hard. But I give Crystal Skull a 6.2 and Dial also a 6.2.
There was a lot of senseless killing I felt compared to and previous version. The killing spree did not make sense and the reaction to the multiple murders also made no sense. I guess in their world it is normal to murder so many innocent people and not react much?
It did feel like the action was like the other movies. So if you like the Indie style of action, you should be pleased and might be fun. I feel it is too old school, though. But was fine.
The plot in concept was good but execution was way off. I would have made a much more adventurous ending.
I didn't hate or love it. That is my issue. I think if this move was not Indiana Jones, it would be a 5 out of 10. But the character and Harrison Ford do bring a lot to the screen.
Troll (2022)
Amateur hour
Had the potential for a good story. But amateur writing, acting, and directing ruined the film. The lead actress was the worse. But you have to equally blame the writer and director.
One of the first scene you have a paleontologist being brought into the war room with the Prime Minister and military leaders and scientists. So what does she do, starts mouthing off like she's the smartest person in the room. She would be out on her ass in second in real life. Actually, she would have been vetted first and never even made it to the table.
Avoid this film. It only gets worse. The troll footprints look artificial. They could not even budget for believable footprints.
Willow (2022)
All the hype led up to this trash?
I loved Willow the movie. Val Kilmer and his character was by far the best component of that ensemble. And Joanne Whalley the weak link of that movie. First mistake was to bring back Whalley.
The movie respected the time period. This version thinks it is in the year culturally 2022. That's just lazy writing from young, snot-nosed kids in Hollywood.
The script and acting is boring, unoriginal, and grates on the souls of intelligence. Contrast this with Netflix's Wednesday released at the same time. Wednesday also originating from prior movies and a 60's TV show hits a home run. No doubt with less budget than this Disney failed attempt of pixie dust.
What's worse is the hype leading up to this garbage. Trailers, and lots of promos.
I am hoping that Bob Iger can bring back some sanity to this lost creative Disney Plus content.
