Ted Lasso (2020)
Give It a Chance- Feel-Good and Has Depth
When my husband and I watched this together, I wasn't really on board at first. You don't really like how unfailingly positive Ted is and it's almost off-putting, but as the show goes on, you fall in love with all the characters. You realize that Ted is extremely intelligent and his kindness lends itself to that. In a world where everything is negative all the time, it's really nice to escape into a realistic and glass-half-full perspective for a while. The character development is incredible. The quips and metaphors are hilarious, and each character, albeit very different, work so well altogether. One of my top 5 shows of all time.
As You Are (2016)
Sweet and Sad
I watched this movie based off the suggestions: Perks of Being a Wallflower, Little Miss Sunshine, and Everything Sucks. It was the same level of sadness as Perks of Being a Wallflower, but with the realism of Little Miss Sunshine & decade piece feel of Everything Sucks. It is placed in the time period around Kurt Cobain's death, which is given a nod in the title of the movie. It's a coming-of-age film with emphasis on relationships, violence, and compassion. If you need to shed a tear, this movie will probably destroy you. Overall, a decent drama giving perspective to multiple layer themes. 7/10.
