Six (2017)
Too Much Political Correctness not Enough Action
I had really high hopes for this show. Although it has some great moments. The action sequences are very good. The family drama involving these men is forced and not really conducive to the plot of the show. I really hated an episode that dealt with gun control. I know two guys who were former Seals and they are not pro gun control by a long shot. I then found out it was made by that infamous women abuser and gun control zealot Harvey Weinstein and it totally made sense.
Primary Colors (1998)
Well Made Movie bu what was the point
The movie is well made and the acting is very good, but I still don't understand why getting Governor Stanton elected is so important? He seems to be a lovable philanderer with absolutely no personal morals. He seems to really care about people in the macro sense but not in the micro sense. If he did he would not act so callous to his friends and wife and lovers.
Why was getting Governor Stanton elected so important? It seems like this film was made for people who believed that getting a Democrat elected, even one who had grave personal failings was more important than getting a Republican elected. That is where I feel the movie was weak. In 50 years moviegoers are going to be asking themselves this question who were not alive in the 20th century to understand how hated Republicans where in the 90s. Great political movies like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington establish the need to get Jimmy Stewart elected. This movie does not establish the need to get John Travolta elected.
Carlos (2010)
Good Realistic Movie About Terrorism
If this film had been made in Hollywood it would of had wild car chases (with at least 5 cars going airborne) and Carlos would of had a magical ability to defy the laws of physics, and he would of been suave and debonair with the ladies (like 007). This is certainly no Bourne Supremacy or 007 movie with its supernatural stunts and unbelievable plots.
Instead what you get is a realistic (as realistic as a movie could get) look at real terrorism in the 70's and 80's. If you like well developed characters in your movies and plots that actually make sense and are not cartoonish, then this is your movie. I will warn you it is a major time investment to watch the 5 hours, but in the end you will be rewarded with a movie that you will be thinking about for days after you finish watching it.
Parole Girl (1933)
Good Movie That Could be Remade Again
I recorded this movie and watched it in the morning. It was well worth it, even though it was short and the plot is sometimes very contrived, but then again most movie plots are contrived. Mae Clark did a very good job playing a woman who is basically good but due to circumstances does not always follow the most moral path. I won't go into more but the movie was very entertaining. You can tell the movie is pre-code and that adds just enough of an edge to make it interesting.
Ralph Bellamy did a good job of playing the forced upon husband. He was quite entertaining. Mr. Taylor played by Ferdinand Gottschalk was an interesting character it reminded me of the old days when having a wife and kids increased your chance of promotion at the company. Those days are gone, but it does give you an insight into what life was pre-1960's.
