Caligola (1979)
Not as bad as the moral majority would like you to think
It's funny how the majority of the people who gave this film a bad review complained about the crude images and lack of decency. What were those people thinking when they chose to watch this movie?! "Gee, it's advertised as a provocative adult film about Roman excesses, but there's no way it could offend my Christian values, right?" Come on, people!
Now that I've had the opportunity to vent, I'd like to say that "Caligula" is a pretty enjoyable film. I think McDowell's acting is extremely good, although there doesn't seem to be too much difference between his portrayal of Caligula and his portrayal of Alex in "A Clockwork Orange". Caligula is nuttier, but both characters display a lovely amount of deviance and depravity. I felt that the Tinto Brass's directing was pretty average, but the story was well constructed, and it feels reassuring that a movie like this could be made in the late 70s. Tricking respected actors into starring in a historical porno is really a great success story for the adult industry, and I'd like to see it happen again sometime.
In summation, if you like old cult movies that have scared the moralists and the self-righteous with soft-stomachs, then this no holds barred, historically accurate film is right up your alley. Not to be cliche or anything . . . .
Leprechaun (1992)
One of the worst movies I have ever seen
When i rented this movie, I thought I was in for a classic and memorable horror experience. I mean, everybody's heard of this movie, right, so it would have to be sort of good. WRONG! This movie was so bad it wasn't even laughably bad. When it was supposed to be scary, it wasn't. When it was supposed to be funny, it wasn't. The whole movie is pretty much just a site gag ("Ha Ha! Look at the midget run!") with some sort of poor excuse for a plot. Oompa Loopas are funnier and scarier. Also, it has one of those feel good endings that really makes me hate 90s horror. This movie failed miserably.
