Anyone But You (2023)
DNF, gave it three because less than 10 minutes in it was DOA
People are going to watch this because of Sydney. Heck the first shot is of her bouncing breasts as she crosses a street.
But it goes downhill from there. Completely implausible situation (and dialog) of boy meets girl in coffee shop, boy beds girl, girl likes boy, but then inexplicably sneaks out in the morning without saying anything to him. Girl calls girlfriend and tells her she met a great guy but left without giving him her number. Girlfriend tells her to go back and talk to him, which she does. When she gets back to his apartment she overhears him, inexplicably, trashing her to one of his male friends. Causing her to turn and run away. Nothing too far fetched with that storyline. That is where I stopped. As many other reviewers have pointed out, it doesn't get any better from there.
I assume the high number of reviews, which might indicate a good movie, and low rating is due to the high number of people watching to see Sydney bounce across the screen.
Miller's Girl (2024)
The acting is great but the story isn't
First, Jenna Ortega can really act. She was in season two of "You" and also showed her acting chops there. Excellent camera work that kept you from seeing she is barely 5' 2", if that.
All of the other actors were believable. I never felt like I was watching a movie.
The actress playing Winnie really pulled off how a seventeen/eighteen year old girls acts and feels in high school.
The story: oof. Cairo's (Jenna O) actions aren't consistent with her character at the end of the movie and that basically "stops" the movie. You are left wondering why is she acting the way she is. Her greatest achievement "destroying a teacher's career." Really, at 18? Nothing she does leading up to this event would indicate that, and that makes no sense. I think this is the reason for the low ratings.
The woman playing the teacher's wife makes the role come alive. Unfortunately for the story there doesn't seem to be any reason for her to have stayed with him. While the dialog is good it makes the giant plot hole of "why is she staying with him" stand out.
I guess they didn't have the right director or writers, because the actors did a really good job with what they were given.
iZombie (2015)
An incredible show. One of the best shows ever on any streaming service
This is a must watch show. Five incredible seasons of great acting, writing, directing, and storyline. The acting is unbelievable. It is as if every actor was born to play their role. Rose McIver had the opportunity of a lifetime to play Olivia Moore (oh live more, a play on words) and she rose to the challenge. The actor playing Major Lilywhite (what a name), Clive Barbinaux (a black detective in Seattle with cajun name) were great. Later on in the series more hysterical word play on name that you'll figure out. It took me 4 1/2 seasons to get that the name of the paramilitary company's name, Filmore-Graves was "fill more graves."
The actors that did not play starring roles played their roles to perfection.
To be great character actors you have to have writing that is consistent with the roles character, that is what makes them, and the actions they take, believable. There was never any time in five seasons that the actors actions were inconsistent with their character.
For Andrea Savage fans, she has been in a lot movies and tv shows, is superb as the head of Filmore-Graves.
Hard to gush too much over this show.
Bandidos (2024)
Very entertaining with very good acting. Bingeworthy
This movie is a very good action adventure. The acting is believable, the storyline is fun, and there are a lot of good twists. The lines that are supposed to be funny are funny. A good movie to just sit down and be entertained by.
Although the story is similar to other "find the treasure" stories the writing and comedic talent of the actors delivering the lines puts a new spin on the story.
The pace is good, no plot holes, and the directing takes advantage of each actors talents.
I had no problem with the dubbing.
The cinematography is excellent.
I hope it will be renewed for another season.
The Society (2019)
Much better than the 7.1 rating. First rate story and acting
Another reviewer stated that this was not your typical Lord of The Flies show and they were right. The problems faced by the kids are real and their solutions are real solutions not silly solutions to create drama or conflicts between characters.
The acting is solid by everyone. Allie's portrayal as the second sister in the shadow of her older sister is dead on. You can see her wrestling with decisions just like you would in real life. A very moving performance. The guys all play their parts like they were born for them. Completely believable.
The show has a good pace, excellent directing. Sadly, due to covid there isn't a second season. You will definitely enjoy the series.
Reina Roja (2024)
Just too stupid to watch
The premise is silly. 242 IQ woman with terrifying hallucinations of monkeys flying at her that can only be stopped if she takes a pill. Of course some else holds onto the pills for her.
The directing is dreadful. She acts like she has autism, can't be touched, doesn't look at people, etc., just mysteriously stares off into the distance using her "super power" IQ of 242 to see things we cannot.
Paired her with a large fat gay male detective. No romance there, or any interactions that would make the characters likable.
Mysterious and secret organization that has only the best detectives and computers, and who work secretly outside the law to pursue the bad guys that the regular cops can't seem to catch.
Midsommar (2019)
Beyond awful. I can't believe someone paid money to produce this
Wow. Adjectives can't really describe how bad this movie is. I can't believe anyone would rate this with even 1 star. Talk about fake reviews.
The storyline is total nonsense. A make believe village out in the middle of nowhere where a bunch of demented inbreds try to get outsiders to breed with, to clean up the gene pool.
It's just a 1960s horror flick with updated production values.
There is one good scene. About 14 minutes in Pugh users her facial expressions to convey her thoughts. It is a director's dream to have someone express their emotions without words like she did.
However after that, and before that, the stupid, unbelievable storyline leaves you with no reason to care about Pugh or any of the other characters.
In a movie this bad it's hard to look at any of the actors performances and say they were good or bad.
Of course, in an awful movie you can expect the ending to be: silly, stupid, ridiculous, unbelievable, and leave you wondering how on earth did this movie get made.
Voleuses (2023)
What a stinko movie
Awful with the stupidest ending I've ever seen. Who writes this crap. Laurent directed it and it shows. Pointless dialog, pointless storyline. Apparently if you're an actress over 35 you can go from invisible to directing, if you can find someone stupid enough to back your directing career, ie. Netflix.
Just goes to show even quality actresses like Adele E. Won't turn down the easy money. So disappointing.
Adele, however, was the only bright spot. But ever her talent could'nt put lipstick on this turd. She was in a fight scene that had good action but the lead up to the fight was as silly as the rest of the movie.
Wow. This movie is so bad it's hard to adequately describe how bad.
I'd like to meet the chumps who backed this movie. Maybe they are interested in buying a bridge.
Rien à foutre (2021)
Great movie. It's much better than the 6.4 rating
The acting is superb. The story is about the life of an airline stewardess in 2019 and 2020. Adele is completely believable.
Her life and her job are the focal points. The problems are she has to deal with the airline bureaucracy with their mickey mouse rules. For instance "does she get credit for how many drinks she can sell or does the everyone on the crew share." And push push the drinks, chips, etc. She and other stewardesses cross a strike line to get to their planes. When asked about her future she replies "my future is paying rent today." Pointing out the real life conflicts between the haves, the airlines, and the have nots, the employees. When one of her crew rats her out to management over a trivial event it her life in focus. That no matter how well she does her job the airline only cares about its rules.
The movie is not a fast paced shoot'em up but rather a slow story that moves the viewer along.
French directors do spend to much time on ambient scenery that don''t do anything for the storyline.
Queenpins (2021)
Another great movie with ridiculous low rating
The movie is very funny and entertaining. I wonder if the other reviewers were watching the same movie. It's as if they don't understand that movies are for entertainment.
A novel storyline, excellent acting, and good pace.
All of the actors were believable. Kristen Bell and the woman who plays JoJo sholwed real comedic talent. Another great performance from Kristen Bell. On a side note, the director did not "reposition" the actors to cover up the fact that Kristen is only 5'1" tall. It was surprising to see her next to the man who plays her husband. He also does a great job. Very few actors can pull of being an *hole so realistically.
Vince Vaughn, who usually jsut plays Vince Vaughn, actually had a very credible performance.
Very entertaining and well worth watching.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Great show. Binge worthy. Don't believe the low rating
Great acting by Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith. Excellent story, fast paced, and very believable.
Donald Glover, John Smith, and Maya Erskine, Jane Smith were made for these roles. Maya steals the show with her comedic timing and great delivery of her lines. The action is fast paced. The supporting cast is excellent.
It's quite a trick to follow Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the original Smiths but Donald Glover and Maya Erskine pulled it off.
Don't know why the low 6.5 rating. There are many 7+ rated shows that are not nearly as original and well written as this one.
If you are looking for action, good acting, and a fast paced fun story this the movie to watch. Sure hope there is a season two.
True Detective (2014)
Season 4 is just stupid don't waste you time watching it
Season 1 was very good, season 2 pretty good, season 3 was ok, but season 4 is awful. Awful acting, awful script, awful dialog, awful storyline, and awfully boring.
This show will kill True Detective saga. Hard to believe there could be a season five after this dumpster fire.
Save yourself the 2 hours and 15 minutes of my life I wasted on this dreadful show and will never get back.
If this was season 1 there would be no season 2.
Everything about the show has been done before and done better.
Another lets throw lesbians in your face, teenage ones at that, one pretty and one fat, of course; lets have meaningless and completely unbelievable teenage angst (with the step mother of course not her real mother, of course); a stupid "oh how the ancient ones from beyond the grave will show us the way"; my husband has been dead for 5 years but he showed me where the bodes were.
It's not just the ridiculous storyline of the little people versus the big bad mining company ruining the environment , complete with bad water a la Erin Brockovitch, but they added an ever sillier storyline about scientists at a secret lab going crazy and taking all of their clothes off and freezing to death in a pile. Is it bigfoot? Is it aliens? Is it the creature from the black lagoon? No one cares.
Complete with the two old unattractive police people at odds with each other over how to handle the case but secretly sleeping together. Awful!
No Hard Feelings (2023)
Movie is way underrated. Very cute and well worth watching
Jennifer Lawrence is great as the female lead. Her acting talent is really on display. She makes the movie believable. Based on what happens to hot destinations: Raise the property taxes so the people living there can't afford to live there and have to sell to the rich people moving in.
Mathew Broderick is great as the boys father. Very understated performance. He and the woman playing his wife do a great job as helicopter parents.
A lot of very funny scenes showing the generation gap between someone 30+ and kids 18 or 19.
Excellent dialog, good pace, and a cute script. For entertainment value at least an 8.
Obliterated (2023)
Very Funny, Enjoyable and Binge Worthy
A lot of fun to watch. The girls are gorgeous. Shelly Hennig is really good. She has comedic talent and delivers her lines so well you laugh out loud.
There are a lot of laugh out loud funny scenes and lines.
I haven't laughed this much watching a show in a long time. It looks like the actors are enjoying their roles. There is a lot of action. A lot of twists and turns so you are looking forward to the next episode.
I hope they make a season two.
If you want humor, action, a decent story this is it.
Very fast paced. The bad guys were really bad. You'll recognize one in particular. He was born to play bad guy roles.
The Lobster (2015)
Truly Awful. Don't be fooled by the 7.1 rating. A 2 at best
Don't know how on earth this dreadful movie about two psychopaths (women kicks a dog to death) could get a 7.1 rating. At best it is a 2. Awful premise, awful story, and did not finish. The monotone conversations of the two psychopaths, who found each other, makes you want to kick yourself to death just so you won't have to hear the silly dialogue delivered in that monotone.
Nothing in the movie is believable. People being turned into animals if the don't find love in 45 days, at a special hotel. But wait, you get extra days if you shoot a tranquilizer dart into someone who is running away from the hotel. Like you should run away from this movie.
The fact that Colin Ferrel and Rachel Weize agreed to be in this movie must be how they found someone to pay for this stinker.
Romeo Is Bleeding (1993)
Great writing, directing, and dialog. Much better than the 6.7 rating
If you want to watch an action movie that keeps you in your seat, this is it. So refreshing to watch good actors speaking good writing. Also, as a bonus you can actually hear the dialog spoken clearly.
This movie was made when acting, dialog, and directing meant something. All of the actors made their characters believable. Especially Lena Olin. Her acting was superb. I was really suprised by her actions and how her character came right out of the screen at you.
Gary Oldman had another great performance as did Annabel Sciorria (?). She was very believable as Gary's wife.
Great action due to great directing. The pace of the movie never slowed down.
Juliette Lewis was also very believable in her role.
The end of the movie was well done with some real twists.
À bout de souffle (1960)
Awful stupid movie
The featured character in this movie is chain smoking. Literally, the cigarettes are the main character and are more interesting that the other characters.
The ending is absurd and makes no sense. Unless the girl is deranged and gets a kick out of seeing her boyfriend get shot by the police. After he is shot by cops 10 feet away he outruns three cops for two blocks with gunshot wound in his back. Everything about the final scene is awful.
An hour and a half of insipid characters that no one could possibly care about. How this is rated 7.7 is mind blowing.
A car thief kills a cop and is on the run. His girlfriend is too stupid to realize that the different cars he shows up in are stolen. The dialog is awful. The editing is jerky. Meaningless words spoken between the girl and guy.
The fact that the car thief killed a man has no effect on him. None of the characters have any character.
I found myself constantly checking to see how much longer this trainwreck had left. I watched it because of the 7.7 rating. Seriously, save 1 and 1/2 hours of your life by skipping this garbage. Awful, awful, awful.
I'm Sorry. (2017)
Don't know how this got an 8 rating. It's awful.
I can't believe this has an 8 rating. The first episode is about a mom who used to be an "anal" porn star. Complete with all of the jokes a 7th grader would find stupid.
Second show starts with a 40 year old mother having a conversation with a 5 or 6 year old about the boy's mother making him a poop sandwich for lunch. Unbelievable that anyone would think this was funny.
Characters are the stereotypical black guy, weird male friend, simpleton husband, air head best friend etc. Nothing entertaining about this at all.
How this ever got to 20 episodes is a mystery. Maybe there was nothing better on the network shelf or the actors were working for scale.
Don't waste your time on this one.
Café Society (2016)
Very enjoyable movie, with great acting
One reviewer wrote that in the beginning of the movie Jessie plays a scene like Woody Allen would and he is right but as the movie moves along there is less and less of the "Woody" feeling.
Kristen Stewart is perfect as the female lead. Beautiful in an understated way. She is a very talented actress and he talent comes through in this movie. Her words, the was she speaks, are believable. You can see why she made the choices in the movie that she did.
Jesse Eisenberg does a fine job as well. Initially I thought the casting of him was odd as the male lead but at the end of the movie I could see it. He and Kristen's screen chemistry was evident.
The movies pace fit the storyline.
I gave it an eight because everything worked well in the movie. The casting, acting, directing, dialog, and scenery all flowed together.
Walk of Shame (2014)
A Solid Eight for Entertainment
The rating is a eight because it is very entertaining. The acting is excellent. The pace is very good. I never felt like looking at the time. It has a mixed bag of characters, all of whom do a great job in their roles. Elizabeth Banks displays a lot of comedic talent as the lead.
The story line is fresh and portrays the news anchors for what they are, news readers.
The opening scenes are hysterical. Real life news anchors bloopers, many that have made it to youtube.
The cinematography is very well done. A young Bill Burr, with hair, is in the movie and he also does a good job. If you want a funny, fast paced movie this is one to watch.
Annihilation (2018)
What an awful, pointless movie
Don't waste your time on this movie. Terrible story, gaping plot holes, and totally pointless. Nothing made any sense. Near the end I just skipped through it, morbid curiosity, to see how awful the ending was going to be. It was awful.
There was never any reason to care about any of the characters, so I lost interest.
From beginning to end it was silly. Why send crack army teams in for 2 years and then decide "oh what we need are 5 women misfits." That's the ticket, they'll crack the secret.
The storyline was so implausible that you were left thinking "this is silly."
In the trivia it talks about a financier at paramount wanting major changes but the movies producer didn't want to make the changes. They should have.
Portman wasn't bad but that is hardly a compliment to her acting. Her husband's acting was awful. It was completely unbelievable that they loved each other.
The Idol (2023)
Awful storyline, awful casting, painful to listen to dialog.
You've seen this story done many times in the past with better acting, writing, directing, and dialog.
Lily Rose needs a new agent. But then again money is money. I'm sure someone is laughing all the way to bank, maybe her.
Maybe Lily Rose can act but you'd never know it from this show. Her nudity and her character's "sex" roles (something a 13 year old would come up with) are the only reason anyone is watching this show.
The other characters are so poorly written that nothing they do or say makes any sense. The director's attempts at conflict between characters is silly. No one is as stupid as these characters are portrayed, even actors in Hollywood.
The cast is obviously trying to act but given the awful dialog and scenes I'm sure they are looking for their next roles; to redeem themselves for being in this show.
Sid Sweeney could pull it off in Euphoria because she is a very talented actress who demonstrated great range in her role.
Black Bear (2020)
Worth watching for the great acting
I gave it an 8 because of the great acting, especially Aubrey Plaza. The movie is good, although not your typical movie.
The actors actions have to be consistent with their character. The ending seemed a little off in the sense that the actors actions at the very end of the movie were inconsistent with their characters. The ending seemed like a "well, how do we end the movie".
But, any criticisms aside, it was worth it to see Aubrey Plaza display her range of acting. She is a very underrated actress.
There were a lot of funny scenes and the dialog was very good. What lines the supporting cast had they delivered well.
Deadloch (2023)
Believe the bad reviews
DNF. Quit after 1/2 2 way into the 3rd episode. The acting is good. The story is pretty good.
But the backstory of a town of lesbians is silly. They all play airheads so nothing they say or do is believable.
The detective from the big city sent to lead the homicide investigation role is absurd. No one is that stupid or dense so every scene with her in it leaves you thinking "no one is that stupid" and no one would put up with a fool leading homicide investigation. Her acting is very good it's just that the story and dialog she is given is awful. So the conflict between the local cop and the detective is just silly. The pathologist leaves out a major piece of critical information when discussing victims until the 3rd episode. No one would do that. Just more bad writing.
I'm giving it 3 because Kate Box (the local cop) does a great job with her role. But again she is given nothing to work with.
Merve Kült (2023)
Awful. Don't know why this show was hyped
DNF. Watched 10 minutes and it was actually painful to watch the lead actress try to act. Cliche after cliche in just 10 minutes. Shows that have the characters talk to the camera (viewer) are almost universally bad because that destroys the "magic" of suspending belief for 90 minutes.
There have been some real dogs on netflix but this is the first one I've given one star. Would have given no starts if I could.
I guess there could be an online contest to see how long this dreadful show lasts before netflix kills it. I know it is very difficult to create a successful show, "Travelers", for instance. But to cancel that show and put this one one is mindboggling.
