The Nurse (2014)
1/10
Couldn't get through 20 minutes before turning it off
28 November 2022
Where to start...

For a movie made in 2014, they did an incredible job at making it look 30 years old and not in a good way.

Cinematography is horrendous. Nearly every shot is a static that pans instead of cutting to a closer angle, making nearly every shot a wide shot, which is also usually too high and looking down on the characters for no reason. There is no focus on the character or situation, always wide angle.

In the first five minutes there are a series of shots around their new house that pan around like its a house hunting TV show, not a thriller.

Lighting is unnatural and also unbelievable, what hospital has ambient lighting??

Music is often too loud and does not fit with the scene.

Sound mixing is also very unnatural, dialogue is too harsh and sticks out like a sore thumb.

Acting, not good. But neither is the writing, so not entirely the actors fault.

Glad I could just change channel to get this off my TV.

This is Star Wars!!!
26 October 2022
This is it. This is where we need to go. Dave Filoni has done it again.

Star Wars animation never misses the mark.

The best characters in the best timeline with storylines that truly matter. The lighting, the themes, Kevin Kiner's immaculate score, it all moulds into something exceptional.

This show plunges us into stories, right into the thick of it, and lets the audience work out the timeline and context, no tedious 30 minute build up like Andor and BOBF.

The runtime and budget on this show is so much lower than all the other Disney+ shows, yet each episode leaves you more fulfilled than any other Star Wars content released since Mandalorian S2 and a couple of episodes of BOBF.

What's next?? Tales of the Sith?

Personally i would like to see an animated show following Dooku and Palpatine covering the 10 years from Episode 1 to Episode 2.

Whatever we get next, put Dave at the helm and let him steer.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Season 1, Episode 4

Who wrote this s***?!!?

Warning: Spoilers
I am not happy.

Lucasfilm brought back Hayden and Ewan for the most anticipated piece of Star Wars since The Force Awakens and (so far) have completely wasted this asset with a mess of contrived writing from people like Joby Harold who knew nothing about Star Wars and literally had to call up people to ask if he could do something.

A 6 part, limited series on some of the most important characters in the franchise and we get given a 32 minute episode focussing on the wrong aspects of the story. Reva gets most of the storytime while Obi-Wan is literally looking at his fallen Jedi friends encased in AMBER!? (This isn't Jurassic Park) Why not carbonite? Or maybe even the chambers that were used for THE SAME PURPOSE (encasing Jedi) in Rebels. This scene could have been so much more impactful if they spent more time on him and stopped cutting back to Reva.

The writing is so terrible. How on earth is Leia walking underneath Obi-Wan's coat and NO ONE NOTICES until Reva walks in. Also why is Vader so timid?? He killed stormtroopers and officers often for their insolence, but Reva gets off so lightly and then a "Perhaps I underestimated you" what a un-Vader-like switchback.

Obi-Wan gets into the fortress in the exact same way that Cal does in Fallen Order, which is set years before. I would think that the security would be better after that.

The best part of this episode was the bacta tank parallel between Vader and Obi-Wan, but once again it was TOO RUSHED.

I am holding out hope but god damn, if the next two episodes are like this, something needs to change at Lucasfilm because they are hiring the WRONG people to write and direct.
