Silent Hill: Homecoming (2008)
Terrible game
Oh my lord. I am possibly the biggest Silent Hill fan I know, I've managed to introduce several friends to the wonders of this series and many of them enjoy it too. I recently received an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and the main reason I wanted it was for this game. I waited months for this game to come out, and having adored all the previous titles (even 4!) I was eagerly anticipating this one's release. I always say that no matter how bad a Silent Hill game is I will always finish it. But I've decided not to finish this one. Honestly, this game is beyond terrible. The graphics were decent and the voice overs were pretty good but that's about all. Besides having a totally boring plot that hardly ties in with any of the previous games at all, the game is crawling with glitches. Just as I decided to give it another chance this morning I walked right into a glitch many others have been having problems with. Therefore I had to start over. Now I just can't be bothered to finish the game, having spent many frustrating hours screaming at the television screen because this game is so damn.. ugh, it basically takes the word frustration to a whole new goddamn level. What really sucks about this game is that they had the atmosphere just right; the town of Silent Hill, the fog, the whole atmosphere was pretty much perfect. Then they threw in the dumb ass combat and it all went to hell. What makes a Silent Hill game for me is not the constant fighting, but the wandering around in the fog, and that helpless feeling you get when you hear a strange noise in the distant. In this game they pretty much took out all of these things and threw in a bunch of extremely annoying enemies that take about fifty hits from the axe to actually kill, that is before they've already knocked you on your ass half a dozen times. Also, weapons and ammo are extremely limited. I'm not saying there was a bunch of ammo everywhere you looked in the previous games, but hell, this is like playing Resident Evil - only even goddamn harder, and you can imagine what that's like. I'm so disappointed at this game, it could have been amazing if the Japanese hadn't handed it to the Americans. That being said, Origins which was also made by the Americans was a lot better than this game, so maybe they just went wrong somewhere. It's a pity really, this could've been a really good game if they'd just fixed a few things. I'm sad that I wasted thirty eight pounds buying this game, but I don't really regret it. I would've bought it anyway at some point, so it's just bad luck really. I've never been so annoyed with a game in all my life, and this one is easily the most difficult SH game I've ever played. Anyone who enjoys action and combat should try this game, but if you're a true Silent Hill fan who still considers the second game the best of the bunch, I'd say rent it. It's certainly not worth wasting any of your hard earned money on. 1/5
Poketto monsutâ (1997)
The opinion of a longtime fan
Okay, I'm a Pokemon fan. I'm not going to sit here and deny it. Yes, it is quite a "kiddy" show. But I WAS just a kid when I first got into it, which was around nine years ago. I played all of the games that were out at that time, and watched this show religiously. I was a devoted fan to both the show and the games for around three years. Then I sort of grew tired of it and lost interest. Just recently I came across the Sapphire game I'd gotten a few years back and played it a while and realised how much I loved the games. It really took me back to those happy times. Anyway, I've been watching the first season of the show lately, and I love it. Even now that I'm older I can still enjoy this show for what it is, a cute and fun anime. The first few seasons are absolutely timeless; the first season itself is an epic in every single way possible. I recently caught a few of the newer episodes and was horrified at how bad this show has become. It just doesn't FEEL like Pokemon anymore. Not to mention I've lost track at how many new Pokemon there are. What happened to the good old days with Ash, Brock and Misty? Well, I still personally love this show, and I'll continue to watch since it's been so long since I watched it. I might even look for the games if I get the time; it'd be great to play Red or Yellow again. Basically, I love Pokemon, and for someone like me it will never get old and I'll always treasure the memories.
Demento (2005)
An amazing achievement in survival horror games
I haven't been playing survival horror games for too long, about a year, give or take. Silent Hill was the first series to get me hooked, then came Resident Evil, then Fatal Frame, and finally, Haunting Ground. Well, this game really does take the survival horror genre to a whole new level. I'd already watched a friend play it beforehand, and initially I thought it was going to be an average game about some girl trapped in a castle. Oh, how wrong I was. I bought the game a mere few days ago and from the moment I began playing I was hooked. The characters, the storyline, and the creepy setting all made this game what it is: a true work of art. Yeah, it's cheesy to say it like that but it's the honest truth.
What makes Haunting Ground superior to most survival horror games (yes, even to my beloved Silent Hill) is the fact that it's so realistic. Well, not completely realistic, I mean you don't see large disfigured giants in your average day to day life, but besides that, the game is pretty realistic. Also, the weapons system. There are no weapons. When you see an enemy, what can you do? Stand there and fight? No, sir. You have to run. There's no other choice in the matter. You can't just whip out your handgun like on Resident Evil or Silent Hill and KO the enemy, you just have to run and hide and hope to God that they don't find you. Yeah, all these things make this game worth playing. But now onto the storyline.
You play as Fiona Belli, a young girl recently involved in a tragic car accident that supposedly killed her parents. Sometime after, Fiona wakes up, naked with only a white sheet to cover herself, alone in a strange and unfamiliar place. She soon realises that nobody there is going to help her and that she alone must find a way out. Well, not completely alone. A dog named Hewie soon comes to your aid and proves to be a great help throughout the game. It is up to Fiona and Hewie to not only find a way out, but to also discover the truth about why Fiona herself is there in the first place.
All in all, Haunting Ground is one amazing game. It seems to be incredibly underrated, which is so unfair as in my opinion it is just as good as Resident Evil or Silent Hill. There should be more games like Haunting Ground out, and I hope there will be. I also hope that people read this review and decide to buy this game, therefore realising how truly amazing it is just like I did. Oh yeah, and if you're still not convinced that this is a great game, I should tell you that one of the best things about this game is that when Fiona is attacked by an enemy, she flies into a panic-like state which causes the screen to go white and makes things even more difficult. It really makes things even more terrifying and, even better, makes the player feel like you're there and in Fiona's shoes. Just buy this game and I promise you that you won't regret it. Not for a second.
Grand Theft Auto III (2001)
One of the best games I've ever played.
I am of course a massive Grand Theft Auto fan and have been for some time now. Well, my first real GTA experience was with San Andreas, the highly acclaimed GTA game that many players regard as the best one of the franchise. I played this game around three years ago not long after it first came out. I loved everything about it, the game play was excellent as were the voice actors. The entire story was also amazing and I just loved the game. So when I finished San Andreas (finally, it was huge) I wanted to play other GTA titles. I came across GTA 3 whilst surfing the net one day and decided to get it. I picked it up not long after finishing San Andreas and started playing. Well, I was highly disappointed. I guess I had expected, after playing San Andreas, this game to be just like SA. But it wasn't. You couldn't change the character's clothes or give him a haircut, and you couldn't roam around the entire area like you could in SA. Plus, you couldn't look at the map when you hit the Start button like you could in SA. Also the game felt.. how can I put this? Way more constricted. It felt like I could only do missions and not really free roam around the city that much. So finally I gave up on the game and didn't have another go at it for several months.
One day, I was quite bored and I came across GTA 3 once again and decided to give it another go. That day I realised just how amazing this game really is. The characters, the missions.. everything about it is amazing. So what if you can't do all the things you could in San Andreas. This game is like no other GTA game I've ever played, and it is definitely the best one out of all of them. Yes, San Andreas is a great game, also one of the best games ever, but is it THE BEST GTA game ever made? No way. I played this game for five hours straight and even cancelled my plans for later in order to play it some more. So either I have no life, or this game is seriously amazing! I think I'll go with the latter on this one!
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003)
Angel of Death sucks.
I have played the first two Tomb Raider games and loved them both. I'm also familiar with Chronicles which I've played a few times though I don't actually own it. A couple of years ago I saw this game and as it was so cheap I decided to buy it since I hadn't played a TR game in quite a while. When I started playing, I found myself enjoying it, but then after a while I started to become annoyed by the controls, and the story in general. The controls made it really difficult to complete even the easiest of levels. I'll admit that I liked this game at first, but after a while, it became a bore., I didn't even get to finish it because it started to crash midway into the game so I was forced to stop playing and uninstall it. Not that I'm complaining, though, since I was on the verge of quitting it already. This is a warning for fans of both Tomb Raider AND Lara: this game is very tedious and the controls are really annoying. Also, Lara is just.. blah. I hated her in this. I hate everything about this game. It's a real shame that the first few games were amazing and then AoD comes along and proves to be one of the worst games of all time. DO NOT buy this game ! You will regret it, I assure you. ** out of 10
Biohazard (2002)
An amazing experience, if not an extremely difficult one.
Let me start by saying that anyone who is new to the series should NOT start here. I did, and I got nowhere the first time I played. To me, this game was too difficult, some parts got me really frustrated and after a short time I eventually decided to give it up. After a while I played the original game, which I really enjoyed, then after that I played Resident Evil's 2, 4 and 0 (in that order). Both were fantastic and relatively easy. So, after playing these, I finally decided to go back to REmake. When I did, it was so much easier for me. I realised that I needed to conserve my ammo, and also not waste ink ribbons. I also realised that even though I'd already played four of the other games, this was still the most difficult. I did get through it eventually however.
Anyway, on a more positive note, the game itself is amazing. The graphics are stunning, the storyline is fantastic and the game is actually terrifying. This is the only Resident Evil game that has truly scared me. The atmosphere is much scarier than other games plus the fact that it is a lot more difficult makes things even creepier. Ink ribbons are very limited, as is ammo, and this game just has more of a 'survival horror' feel to it than 2,4,0 and even the original had. Let's face it - the original was far from frightening. Good as it may have been, the voice acting made it seem like some sort of parody. With this game comes fresh new voice actors that get the job done (better than last time, anyway) also the main characters, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, are two of the best characters in Resident Evil history. I have only managed to complete Jill's scenario, but I am currently trying to play through Chris', though like before it is still very difficult.
Another thing about this game is the fact that they changed a lot of stuff from the original. Now, even the normal zombies are considerably faster than before, and when you shoot some, they come back later as 'Crimson Heads' which can be very annoying if you're not ready for them. These zombies have the ability to run faster and claw you. However, one thing that makes this game better than the original is the fact that the graphics are much, MUCH better, as is the voice acting, but also Lisa Trevor finally makes an appearance after being referenced in the original. Lisa is by far the most terrifying creature I have ever encountered in a Resident Evil game. There's just so much to love about this game, and yet the fact remains that it is a very difficult game. Anyone who thought this game was easy, I seriously commend you. I can honestly say that it has never taken me so long to finish a video game as it did for me to finish this one.
However, all that aside, the game is brilliant. Any fan of Resident Evil who has at least completed another couple of games in the series should check this one out. But remember, if you're new to the series, PLEASE don't start here. Only if you're the best at playing video games should you start here.

Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004)
Good game, but the idea wears thin very quickly.
I am well and truly and obsessed with Silent Hill. I now own all the games, and I love them all, well, most of them anyway. I started playing 'The Room' a couple of days ago, and at first I wasn't all that keen on it. The controls were awkward at first but I soon got used to them. Also, the whole 'Room' idea bugged me a little. Then, after a short while, I started to appreciate the idea more and eventually I was well into the game.
The plot? You play as Henry Townsend, a man who has started having this reoccuring nightmare. He's been having it for nearly a week. Yeah, so after he starts having it he wakes up and finds his door has been chained up from the inside, preventing him from getting out. He can't get out through any of the windows either. The only way out of the room is to crawl through a hole that has been made in his bathroom. As Henry, you must explore different worlds. There are notes that get left under your door that tell you about certain things and what you need to do, etc. That is the basic plot of the game.
I liked the fact you had to return to your room at first, and I also liked looking through the peepholes to see what was going on. There was also something about this game that impressed me, and that was the 'survival horror' aspect of it. Out of every one of the Silent Hill games, this has to be the one that is the most like a 'survival horror' game. You can find plenty of weapons, but ammo is very limited, as are health items. This doesn't really matter during the first half of the game, but believe me, it does in the second when you are no longer healed when you return to your room. You also need to constantly return to deposit items and this can become a real nuisance. Plus, your room is always changing. At the beginning it's safe, but by the end it's in complete ruins and you can't keep returning to it all the time like you used to.
Anyway, at first I was really enjoying the game, wondering why so many people had claimed it was the worst of the Silent Hill series. However, after going through many worlds, I gained a partner, Eileen, and that's when the trouble started. Eileen is very slow so you have to keep waiting for her whenever you want to go into a room, or she'll be left behind. This doesn't help when there are enemies to fight, such as three patient enemies on you all at once, and Eileen takes her sweet time when I really need to get through the door. Another annoying thing is when I returned to my apartment to discover I'd lose half my health every time I needed to save my game. But it's not just that, it's like the game has become less engaging now. Maybe all of these things made it so, but I'm more than half way through now and I can honestly say that I'm bored with it.
I don't think I've said enough to say why I'm really not digging this game anymore. Here are a few things.. there may be spoilers btw..
-The monsters. They're just.. no. There aren't even nurses anymore, they were replaced with these retarded burping zombies. Most of them aren't scary, more annoying really. Especially those ghosts, which you just cannot kill, and that can become really frustrating sometimes. To top it off they take away your health while you can't do anything to them, except wear some pendant that ends up breaking after a while and is then useless.
-The characters. The man you play as, Henry Townsend, is just about the most dull, lifeless, boring and pointless character in Silent Hill history. I just didn't care about any of the characters in this game, the only one that I really liked was Eileen Galvin, but even she was a bit of a hollow character. It was like they just made up a bunch of characters without giving them personalities.
-The fact that you need to return to your room a lot and during the second half you can't even get healed. Health items are limited so you need to be careful using them. The game becomes insanely difficult at parts during the second part of the game as well. You're being hunted by a man in a coat and you need to run away with Eileen, but she is very slow and if she doesn't reach you in time the man will shoot you, and his attacks are very powerful, and he'll kill you pretty fast. Also revisiting the worlds. This is so annoying. Why couldn't they have made it so you visit other places? Seriously, it's like they didn't even try.
As a survival horror game this is good, but not great. The plot wears thin really quickly and just becomes a bore. Some parts are very difficult and it just gets on my nerves. I'm not too bothered about the fact that you never even go to Silent Hill, others might be, but as a Silent Hill game, this game is really bad anyway. It should never have been made as a Silent Hill game, it should have just been a spin-off game like it was originally intended to be. I'll admit that there are some scary parts near the start of the game, but after that, it just becomes a nuisance and I don't know if I'll beable to see it through to the end. The series hit a real low point with this game, and I just hope the next game will be better.

Silent Hill 3 (2003)
Great game, lived up to my expectations.
The third installment of the Silent Hill series will not disappoint any big Silent Hill fans, and that is a promise. While it lacks the depth and emotion of Silent Hill 2 and is less captivating, it is still a great game nonetheless and doesn't fail to hold your attention.
The game is a direct sequel to the first game. If you haven't played it, that game revolved around Harry Mason searching for his daughter in Silent Hill. Well, now that little girl has grown up and is a young teenage girl, who serves as the character you play as in the game. Like all young teenage girls she has quite a temper on her, but her heart is in the right place and she is determined to find out what is happening to her. Heather wakes up in a shopping mall after falling asleep in a restaurant, and is leaving when she is approached by a detective who goes by the name of Douglas Cartland. He tries to get Heather to come with him to speak to someone, but Heather vehemently rebuffes him and goes to the bathroom, where she escapes through the window. Thinking she is safe now, Heather goes through the back of the mall, only to discover that something has gone terribly wrong. Soon, her whole world has been shattered, and the only thing she can do now is survive.
The graphics are superb, and are much better than any of the other games (including 4) the plot is brilliant, and the characters are all extremely interesting, to the point that you really care about them, and that even goes for the bad guys as well. All in all, Silent Hill 3 is one fantastic game. However, like all games, it has it's pros and it's cons.
Pros: -The graphics. They are fantastic, and are the best of the entire series.
-The monsters are more challenging than any of the previous games, and are often much harder to defeat. This serves as more of a challenge to the gamer which is definitely a good thing.
-The weapons are fantastic. There is a lot more to choose from then in any of the other games. Also you can unlock certain weapons which is really fun.
-The characters are probably some of the best in the entire series, especially Heather, who is my favourite character of the series.
Cons: -The fact that you don't spend a lot of time in Silent Hill irked me slightly. Also, you don't get to run around exploring the town like you did in the previous games. It takes the fun out of it a little bit. However, you can pay a visit to Heaven's Night, the club from Silent Hill 2 just in case any fans of that game are interested.
-The camera angles can get quite annoying at times. Sometimes the camera goes allover the place. I can't really explain it, but you'll see what I mean when you play. It doesn't really cause too many problems though.
Apart from that, this game is well worth buying. I'm not sure that it's better than Silent Hill's 1&2, but it is definitely worth playing if you're a fan of this series, or even if you're not, you should still give it a go, but I'd advise playing the first game before you do. 8/10
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon (2003)
Good, so far
I am a huge Broken Sword fan. I've been playing these games for years, in fact I think the Broken Sword series was the first actual gameing experience I ever had. Although Broken Sword 3 is nowhere near as good as the first two games, it is different, and different can sometimes be bad but in this case it is good. True, the controls can be difficult to get to grips with at first, and the concept of 3D can be hard to get used to, but after a while you can become addicted. I'm really enjoying this game so far, though it is no Shadow of the Templars, it's still a damn good game. I may play the 4th game next, though I am not sure because I heard that Nico isn't in it. It will be strange playing a game that doesn't involve her, since she played such a huge role in the first three games, but anyway, back to the subject, this is a really good game and I'd recommend it to all Broken Sword fans.
Biohazard 4 (2005)
The Game to End All Games
Words cannot do this game enough justice. It is just.. fantastic. Beyond words. Never before in my life have I enjoyed playing a video game so much. Silent Hill 2 is my overall favourite game of all time, but Resident Evil 4 has something that no other video game I've ever played has got. It has the ability to keep you right on the edge of your seat, and occasionally scare you out of your wits. For once, this game does not follow the plot of the previous games, Umbrella is barely even mentioned. It is something entirely knew to the series, that no other RE game in the past has been involved with. The plot is very complex. In fact, playing this game is more like watching a movie. At the start we know little to nothing about why Leon is there, and why Ashley has been captured. Nope, nothing! But as the game goes on, we discover the shocking truth.
Basically, Leon has been promoted since the horrific events six years ago in Raccoon City. It's now his job to do whatever it takes to make sure that the President and his family are safe. Well, the President's daughter Ashley has been captured by an unknown cult somewhere in Europe, and Leon has been assigned to the case. This is his first job so he doesn't know what to expect, but he soon finds out that what is going on down there is a little more complex than what he imagined! The 'cult' is a group named the Los Illuminados. Led by the mysterious Lord Saddler, the cult have managed to kidnap Ashley and have locked her away in a tower, for reasons unknown. Inorder to find and rescue her, Leon must fight his way through a hoard of enemies, from warped Villagers to creatures you've probably seen in your nightmares. But what is worse is that Leon is constantly finding similarities in what is happening here, to what already happened six years ago in Raccoon City..
This game is unmissable. You should buy a PS2 or Gamecube just to play it. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. If you aren't a Resident Evil fan buy it anyway, you'll want to play the others as soon as you're finished and nothing will be ruined for you, for this game does not follow the ongoing plot of the previous games, for the most part anyway. If you're a die hard Resident Evil fan, you'll probably like this as well, I know I did, but be warned, this isn't the same as the previous games, not at all. But if anything it is better. Just give it a go, and you'll see what I mean.
Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games I have ever played. Go out and buy it, now!
Bio Hazard (1996)
Behold.. the original.. BIOHAZARD
Or RESIDENT EVIL. Muhahaha. THIS is it, people! This is one of the best PS1 games out there, every video game fanatic should give it a go! Plus, it features some of the best RE characters. Chris, Jill, Barry, and even Wesker! What more could you want in a game?? It's the first, might not be the best but it's still amazing. This was where the legacy that is Resident Evil first made it's mark. You can play as either Jill or Chris, though I prefer Jill, DO NOT ask me why. The voice acting is admit ably baaaaad, but that doesn't matter in a game like this! Even the graphics are hot for a game made in 1996! Take a look at Silent Hill! Came out in '99 and the graphics were hardly great! Still, a game doesn't need great graphics to be awesome, but Resident Evil not only is awesome but it has awesome graphics anyway! I'm rambling! Just play this game, and you'll see that RESIDENT EVIL is one of the best game series' out there. Go on!
Heroes (2006)
Absolutely brilliant
If there is one show you should definitely be watching, it's Heroes. Recently I've tried watching all the new or recent shows to come out, and have been disappointed by a fair few of them, including Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Dirt, Jericho, and more besides. Then there was Heroes. Well, this show just tops them all. As a huge, huge fan of the show LOST I was expecting something similar in this show, which is why I started watching it. I'd heard it was being compared to LOST and even supposed to be better. I began watching and for the first half of the series I wasn't that into it, not at all. To me, it was good but no way was it as good as LOST. Then, Christopher Eccleston hit the scene. And I became addicted. I'm now almost finished with the first series after watching most of it online, and can't wait to get started on the second series. I've never had so much fun watching a TV show. LOST is a more deep, compelling story, but Heroes is the show to watch if you want a bit of mindless but cool entertainment. And it is very, very cool. Normal people becoming Superheroes? What more could you want?!?!
Silent Hill (1999)
Fantastic.
This was the first instalment of the Silent Hill series that would soon become a massive hit worldwide. I must say, I am still impressed with this game after not playing it for months. The graphics are not up to the usual standard of PS1, but it really doesn't matter in the end. Silent Hill provides the player with scares, chills, and a whole lot of mystery. The storyline is great fun, though not as good or deep as some of the later story lines in the series. This game will keep you guessing until the very end. There are four different endings to get, so you can keep replaying this game for a different one each time. No matter how many times I play these games, I can never get tired of Silent Hill. They are still so much fun to play, and each time I try to beat my time, or get a higher rating, which is always fun to do. Anyone who is a fan of the survival horror genre should seriously give this one a look. Also, after you're done here please attempt the next game in the series, Silent Hill 2, which is quite possibly the best game I've ever played. 9/10
Desperate Housewives (2004)
This show has officially lost it's charm
Let me start by saying that I was an avid watcher back in 2005, I saw the first series on DVD and watched it in about two days because I was so hooked. I talked nonstop about the show for months, and then in Jan or Feb the second series started. I started watching and naturally I loved it, until around half way through when it started to drag on a little. But as I was a huge and loyal fan, I stuck to this show, watching it every week without fail, unless there was some emergency and I couldn't. So anyway, by the time Series two had ended, I couldn't help but feel that it had been lacking everything that made the first series great. But I still kept on watching, and was very impressed with the beginning of Series three, especially the amazingly emotional 'Bang' episode. After that, however, the story lines became contrived and generally a nuisance. Some things were just so stupid I couldn't imagine them happening. Here are a list of things I don't think make sense..
* First of all, Bree has changed way too much. I loved her in Series one, she may have been, to quote Rex 'a cold thing' but I loved her anyway. She was just my favourite for so many reasons! In Series two, understandably, she changed, but I was expecting her to revert back to her old ways in Series three. I do love Orson, possibly more than I loved Rex, but Bree has changed and I'm not too happy about it.
* Also, the way Susan just let Edie fill Mike's head with lie after lie. The old Susan of Series one and two would never allow that to happen. Susan appeared to just give up on the idea of her and Mike.
* Edie and Carlos. Nothing more needs to be said, really.
* Edie killing herself in the finale. I mean come on, over Carlos?? Edie is a strong character, she wouldn't just kill herself because she thought she'd never be happy with anyone and over a fight with Carlos. I doubt she's even dead, but still..
* As said before, the contrived story lines. The paedophile incident lasted for what, two whole episodes?? The story lines have been so dumb this past series. It's not even funny.
* Also, the built up storyline as to who killed Monique was generally very exciting, but the conclusion really, really disappointed me. I was expecting something better, to be honest.
* Killing off Alma. It was the worst thing they ever did, IMO. She could have stuck around for a while longer to make things more interesting.
And more things besides. This is all coming from someone who was once a die-hard fan of this series, as well. I didn't even bother buying the Second series on DVD, which is strange because I usually buy them straight away. I just didn't like it enough, I guess, and probably won't be buying the third series on DVD either. So while I am still very much in love with the first series, which in my opinion was one fine piece of television, I probably won't be watching this show in the future.
Maybe I'm just being silly, maybe it'll get better in Series four. But after these two past series, somehow, I doubt it very much.
Silent Hill 2 (2001)
The Best Game Of All Time, And That Is An Understatement.
I seriously cannot get enough of this game, I've played it four times now and I still get stuck and confused in parts. The storyline still never ceases to amaze me and I still can't get enough of it. There can't be another game series like Silent Hill, it is unique in it's own special way. Sure, the first one always prevails as the scariest of the latter, being the original game, but there's something about Silent Hill 2. It's just the most amazing game I've ever played. I knew I was going to be in for some scares, but nothing could have prepared me for what I actually felt while playing it. It's not just a scary game, it's literally terrifying, and like I said I can't get enough of it. It has such a complex storyline that always leaves you wondering. The cut-scenes are just 'WOW' now there's some great graphic design. The first game might have been the scariest, but THIS is the more stylish of the two. The graphics are great and wonderful to look at, the darkness that always surrounds you makes it hard to keep playing but once you're eventually used to it, there's no going back. I can't think how Resident Evil is the overall more popular game series of the two. Don't get me wrong, I love Resident Evil, but Silent Hill is something special. There are a thousand games out there like RE, but are there a thousand games out there like Silent Hill? No, sir! There certainly aren't. I've played many games and I can't think of any game that even compares to Silent Hill. These games are just godly. I will continue to play them, I'll try to get my hands on Silent Hill 3 next, and I have to say I can't wait. I've never been so excited to play a video game before. But with Silent Hill, whether you're into playing video games or not, you'll love every friggin' second of it.
Lost (2004)
Interesting, Intriguing, Incomparable
At first the premise of LOST does indeed seem pointless and unrealistic. Watching forty eight people as they attempt to make their way while stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean. I can remember thinking like that, thinking LOST would be the biggest waste of time in the history of television. Sure, I'd heard about it, Who hasn't? I'd caught snippets of it on television before but I'd never really seen it. And, as usual, I was anxious about it. I didn't want to see it. A lot of people only become really obsessed with television shows that they actually WANT to see. This was something that I had never planned to watch, never planned to like, and never planned to eventually fall in love with. But alas, I did fall in love with LOST. It all kicked off last Summer, when my cousin brought it up. I thought, meh... yeah, I'll watch it, a bit, maybe.. see what it's like. Let me tell you, from that first episode I was completely hooked. I just instantly fell in love with the show, and never wanted to turn it off! Luckily my cousin owned the Season One DVD and lent it to me... And I'm ashamed to admit that I actually spent the next two to three days in complete isolation. Seriously, the only exercise I got was from getting up to eat or go to the toilet. Within three days the Season One had been watched, and so I spent the rest of the Summer completely obsessing over it, talking about it to anyone and everyone, requesting that everyone I knew watched it, wanting to know what they thought. Series 2 was still showing on television but I didn't have a clue what was going on. I got my hands on the Series 2 DVD when it came out about three months later. I watched it, and loved it. In my opinion it was just as good as the first series. I waited anxiously for the third Series to start, and when it did, it exceeded every one of my expectations. I was so shocked: The show was still great! And after three whole seasons, too.
The thing that gets me about LOST is how they started off with one very simple storyline that evolved into an extremely complicated, unrealistic yet addictive storyline. So, Forty-Eight people survive a harrowing plane crash on September 22nd, 2004. They're all left equally traumatised, some having even lost their relatives or the ones they loved. In the centre of all this is Jack, who is considered the 'de facto main character' of the whole show. Indeed, Jack is the first character we see in LOST and from the Pilot he is considered the 'hero' of the group. During the Pilot we are introduced to various other characters, and by Episode 5 we are pretty much familiar with every face on the island. There is Dr. Jack Shepherd, the male heroine of the show. Kate Austen, the mysterious young woman who is supposedly some kind of criminal. Two episodes in it is already made clear that she and Jack will become very close. Kate is considered 'the main female character' of the show. Other characters are introduced but do not get as much screen time as Kate and Jack. They are as follows: Sayid Jarrah, a young man from Iraq; Michael Dawson, a young African American man father to a young boy named Walt; Charlie Pace, a young Rock Musician; Boone Carlyle and his spoilt brat of a sister Shannon; Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes, a large yet warm guy with a big heart; John Locke, a mysterious older man who appears to be the most mysterious of all of the characters; James "Sawyer" Ford, the tetchy, often irritative Southern young man, often considered the "Bad Boy" of the show; Jin and Sun Kwon, a young Koreon couple; and Claire Littleton, a young and also heavily pregnant woman.
During Episodes of LOST, we find out more about different characters through flashbacks. By means, one certain character is given a centric episode all to themselves, in which their story is told through flashbacks. Each character only has about one flashback per season, besides Jack, Kate and Locke, who usually get up to three per season. This is interesting because it tells us what kinds of people we are dealing with here, and let's us in on their many secrets. The best thing about this is that we never know everything about a character. Flashbacks go on throughout LOST so we are always finding out more about the characters.
Basically, LOST is just one hell of a show. It will always keep you guessing and wondering what will happen next. Every episode tells us something about a character that we didn't know before. New secrets are always being disclosed through flashbacks. There are so many exciting and thrilling moments that it's hard to keep track. Relationships are formed on the island, and it is easy to sense the instant chemistry between some characters. The score is just breathtaking, the acting is fantastic, especially from a group of reasonably young and, before LOST, unknown actors who have not starred in many other projects in the past.
You will laugh, cry, and be on the edge of your seat. The first episode will have you hooked. Many have complained that this show is unrealistic. Yes, of course it is. But this is entertainment, and for me if a show were too realistic I wouldn't be able to watch it properly. LOST has everything you could ever want. And if you're not hooked from the first episode, I pity you. I really, really do.
