A bad film...

The plot simple and realistic: corruption to money. Usual from the Italian neo-realism movement. The worst was that acting was just not there. People were colorless and emotionless. They were living tragedies and none of them screamed, or cried(except one scene) or laughed at all. They were non humans! It was like reading a newspaper, a dry and with not soul at all journalistic article. I'm sure that Tolstoy's novel was not like this. The story reminded me movies of the Italian neo-realism movement, yet this one was not to be compared with some masterpieces of De Sica, Visconti etc...

A nice watch but only for academic reasons.

A fantastic film for its era but today you'll not miss much if you don't watch it.

The effects are plausible and for director's perspective doesn't seem like a movie from 120 years back.

Still, the plot is very simple, the characters faceless and in my opinion, knowing today's cinema, this film hasn't much to tell or to give to the viewer -except from cinema students- in addition to other films of that time that can stand in the lists of the best of all time.

Breathtaking film.

Warning: Spoilers
Despite all history facts and ideology, the film is astonishing. Photography, characters and music blend together to make this very good movie. War scenes are perfect for 1915 and some chasing scenes like the one of the little girl that falls off the hill are taking your breath.

For me 107 years later and regardless of what Griffith wanted to say, the message is one: The face of power is the same regardless if there are blacks or whites or men or women etc on power or all of them together.

But again without any message at all, this film is a must for good cinema lovers.
