Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Truth and Consequences (2023)
As good as clone wars!
Although the last few episodes have been rather filling and disappointing, this one and the one beforehand has given me newfound hope for the series. When bad batch was first released, me and many hoped that it would focus on the republics transition to a galactic empire. Some of the episodes have been fascinating and have showed that as well as some fun side quests with the bad batch, but unfortunately a large amount of the episodes have been filled with no importance. This episode on the other hand, reminded me of clone wars with the nail biting action and incredibly thought out politics, that often remind me of the real work while at the same time keeping the magic of Star Wars. Fantastic episode with and amazing plot and fun cameos. It has fulfilled my hope for bad batch as a series. Let's hope it keeps up the consistency of the last 2 episodes.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Fantastic film with a fantastic message
I came in with high expectations after rewatching the classic shrek movies, and my expectations were very well met. There are plenty of unique characters that all have their own interesting story arcs and fun identities. Every character felt different and there was plenty of character development, particularly for our main protagonist. The animation was fluid and reminded me of a sort of comic. The music was upbeat and enjoyable to listen to.
I loved the sense of adventure and all the unique obstacles certain characters were presented with. Although the plot was simple enough, it was filled with a magic and had several deeper meanings and messages than nearly all "kid" films you see today. It is easily appealing to adults as it features some darker themes that kids may not catch.
Overall this movie was fantastic and it had many overlapping dark themes, fluid animation and plenty of enjoyable characters. It is also full of the brim of callbacks to previous Shrek films.
After Life (2019)
Moving Story full of Wonderful Characters
Although I have not experienced too much loss in my life, this show prepared me for how it would impact you and how to deal with it. There are plenty of lessons to be learned that inspired me to be a better human. I teared up several times while watching.
The characters were great and all of them had a separate personality. They felt real and immersed you into the show. They are all memorable and all of there ups and downs. There is lots of character progression, not only for Tony(main character).
The humour in this show was great and it had me laughing several times. The scenes were well thought out and relatable. There was the perfect mix of humour and sadness which is what made this show so wholesome and relatable.
There are a few shortcomings though. The main ones were some of the characters in the 2 seasons not being in the final season. I don't know why they did this as they were fan favourites and amazing characters.
Overall, despite the removal of several characters this show remains a hilarious, moving, relatable show with the perfect balance of humour and grief. The characters progression is fantastic as well as the music choices. Would definitely recommend especially if you have recently lost a loved one.
Andor (2022)
Gritty, dark, masterpiece
After the recent upsets of BOBF and Kenobi me and many fans were starting to lose hope in Star Wars. But this prequel to Rogue One has reminded me why I loved Star Wars so much in the first place. It felt like a lengthy Star Wars movie because of the large budget and cinematic feel. The acting was top class and you can tell the actors put their all into it. The music was stunning and emotional. John WillIiam -esque. The series was not contained in just one planet but included a good variety of planets. Andor also showed the inner workings of the empire like we have never seen before. It moves by at a slow pace but is it all worth it in the end. There is certainly a reasonable amount of characters and it is always interesting seeing there being individual problems. I would 100% recommend this to casual fans and hardcore fans alike because it does not require much understanding and approaches Star Wars in a different, grittier way.
Finch (2021)
Heartfelt Adventure
Although this filmed lacked in originality it was still an enjoyable, emotional film full of heartwarming moments. The writers knew what they were doing from start to finish so there were no significant plot holes. Although I would have enjoyed to see some more additional characters, the few characters we were stuck with were fun and different from each other. Clearly a lot of thought went into the photography as I was very impressed. The music was better than your average film but nothing too special. The setting of the film was very good and had a distinct feel to it. The humour was funny and produced a few chuckles. Overall, this was a great film with unique characters, emotional moments and a good setting. There were not many negatives apart from a bit of unoriginality and some of the scenes being a bit to dark(to see). I would recommend this film because of the immense amount of thought put into it. It may make you tear up a bit.
Andor: Rix Road (2022)
Emotional Finale
A fitting finale to a wonderful series that has rejuvenated Star Wars for me and I'm sure many other. This episode went by at a reasonable pace unlike the recent Boba Fett finale. There was plenty of character development but none of it felt rushed. They emotion was riding high, there was one particulate scene that I enjoyed that felt so real and fully invested me into the scene. The music as always was brilliant and the actors did their part too. I also liked how all the characters that we have met earlier on in the show have finally shaped into their true self and stand for what they believe in within the episode. It was interesting seeing their slow progression reach into their final form. Overall this episode had no big downsides and was filled for the brim with stunning action, heartfelt emotion and enchanting music. This series is a much watch and I am excited for season two, especially after that final scene.
Andor: One Way Out (2022)
Phenomenal Acting
A masterpiece of an episode, the build up was fantastic and the music complimented it so well. The dramatic build up was topped off with stunning emotion from the actors. It felt so realistic and beautiful. It was shot beautifully, every scene was intense and moved the story at a good pace. The setting and Atmosphere was again brilliant and brought life to every scene. I felt emotionally connected to the characters in nearly every scene, it was more real than Star Wars has ever felt but still keeps that wonderful science fiction feel to it. There are no negatives to this episode. The emotion, acting and photography was great and it had an intense, stunning build up. Looking forward to watching the next one.
Andor: Nobody's Listening! (2022)
Andor gets Dark
Stunning episode, Arguably the best live action episode in all of Star Wars, maybe even in animation too. Only a few minutes into you will see how dark this episode is. It surpasses it's 12+ and it's amazing. The music continues to be amazing and fits the vibe of the show. The acting was stunning and unlimited times better than Kenobi and BOBF. All the actors were great and it had me fully invested. You could tell how much effort they put into this. This episode showed a new side to a lot of the characters we have seen in previous episodes, and I loved it. The visuals were fantastic yet again. And I am excited to begin watching the next one, especially after the glowing reviews. Wholeheartedly recommend! Also the plot twist at the end was bloody brilliant.
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
A hive of creativity and imagination
A beautifully crafted story... would be an understatement! This was a visually stunning movie that immersed you into a world full of fascinating characters and fantastic settings. The music was majestic and perfectly suited this effortlessly perfect film. You can tell that the artists poured sweat and blood into this film, to make it is good as humanly possible. The plot was unique as well as all the characters. The characters are like nothing I've ever seen before and our written to perfection. Another thing I love about this film is the sense of mystery in this strange world. As the movie goes on you learn more about this fascinating world a bit like a jigsaw, bit by bit. Don't let the long runtime put you off, trust me every moment is filled with joy and heart. The uniqueness of the film allows it to possess the ability of it being memorable. I would 100% recommend this if you want to head into a beautifully crafted, intriguing world, full to the brim with magic and unique characters. This movie will certainly stand the test of time with its stunning animation which even today is still innovative, truly a movie ahead of its time.
The Mask (1994)
Amusing
The mask is an interesting film. It starts of slow introducing the characters and there personalities. It starts to pick up pace when Stanley gets possession of the mysterious 'mask'. Although it takes a while for Stanley to get hold of the mask the build up to it is quite impressive and sets the scene quite well. All sort of antics go on with the mask, and quite a few of them made me laugh. I have to applaud the creativity of the writers. The villains of the story are unoriginal but there are still a few good twist involving them here and there. Overall, it is a unique, funny movie which set the scene well and had lots of creativity. It lacked in character depth, good villains and a more interesting goal of the villain. I guess overall it is intended to be more of a comedy than a thriller but my point still stands. I recommend this movie if you are in a bad mood and want to get cheered up or you just want to see a classic funny movie.
Black Adam (2022)
Simple plot, great action
Very enjoyable movie, with amazing action. The plot was nothing special but the action was stunning and the characters were all interesting. The backstory was simple but informative and prepared me for the move well. Black Adam was a serious, interesting character who I thoroughly enjoyed watching. The other characters were great too, some funny, some brave and some serious. The music was very intense and suited the action scenes well. The film was a bit messy so don't except anything to deep just a fun enjoyable journey. Although there were still plenty of emotional moments in the film. There was a good amount of comedy and I laughed a bit. The pacing was a bit quick but it is meant to be taken as a fun ride not a slow, Intelligent film. Overall it was a fun, simple film with interesting characters and great action. I forgot to mention that the villain was great. Downsides were; The pacing was a bit messy and it's not the most memorable film. There was an amazing post credit scene as well. I would recommend this film but don't come in with very high expectations.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: The Autopsy (2022)
Not for the squeamish
I thought this was a good episode, although it started slow it picked up the pace and had an interesting ending. The acting was great from all the actors. To make a horror scary you have to make the characters feel like real people and act like real people and they do this perfectly. It gives a good sense of dread to the story. The photography was very impressive and easy to follow, as well as the story. They also give some backstory to the main characters which is always important. As my title suggests it is not for the squeamish as there are scenes of a rather gruesome autopsy. I thought the main villain of the story was interesting and unique. Overall, it a dark, real, intelligent episode with good photography and acting. Things I didn't like; build up was to slow, relied on gruesomeness a bit to much, and could have been more characters in the story.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
Best thing out of phase 4 so far
I loved it! It had me intrigued right away with the beautiful camera work and the great opening. The story moves at a slow pace introducing the setting and main plot. The plot is simple yet interesting and fun. I loved that it had its own unique feel to it unlike a lot of marvel films. It felt darker and more dangerous. Most of it is in black air white but the blood stone stands out with its bright red. It had an old fashioned horror movie feel but with Marvels great action and music choices. Parts of it felt like a horror movie with levels of gruesomeness that we have never seen in an MCU film before. Overall it is a dark, unique, interesting take on the MCU and a breath of fresh air that I would 100% recommend. You're in for a treat!
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Orderly World of Mr. Appleby (1956)
Interesting Character
Mr Appleby is an interesting character and I enjoyed seeing how he handled all the unpredictable parts of the episode. At first he is shown to be attached to the objects of his antique shops and very protective of them. Particularly when the Lady broke one of the objects. Next we see his life at home, he is in bad terms with his wife and the shop if failing. Out of anger and possibly fear he trips her up using a rug, killing her. He labels her death as an accident and moves on to another wife quickly. This wife is more willing to spend time with him and he is still not too happy with his wife and her convent phone calls. We find out he married her for the money to help his failing antique shop. And when she refuses to pay the amount of money to keep the shop afloat he attempts the same trick he tried on his previous wife. But she is smart and avoids this, she informs him that she knows all about his previous wife because of her friends documents. She is lonely so decides to stay with him, which ends with tragedy because she falls to her death. The episodes ends there. I portrayed the lesson of this episode to be: Never place objects before people. I enjoyed this episode because of its intriguing story, interesting characters, unpredictable twists and easy to follow dialogue. The downsides of this episodes are: I think they could have showcased Mr Applebys emotions with a longer runtime, The death of the second wife was a little silly, and the rich man could have had a more important role in the story.
The Bob's Burgers Movie (2022)
Entertaining
I wouldn't call myself a big fan of the show, but I have watched a few seasons and enjoyed it. The movie like the show is enjoyable, not the smartest jokes or greatest plot but still enjoyable. The animation was great and you can tell that the animators put a lot of effort into it. The plot of was simple but still entertaining. It is a murder mystery that intrigued me enough to continue watching, the main villain was pretty basic and nothing special. I agree with another viewer that it would have been better if it was larger scale, I know 'Bobs burgers' has always been a more small and real show that many other cartoons out there but I still would have enjoyed it more if the characters had to respond to a bigger plot. The best scene for me was certainly the backstory on how Louise got hold of her bunny ears in the first place, while this was happening there was an intense scene running too. Another thing I forgot to mention was that there was lots of funny references from previous shows that I caught on to. I really enjoyed that. A lot of the jokes didn't really hit the mark, especially 'Geans'( who is my least favourite character on the show). The parallel plot about the restaurant failing was interesting. One other thing I would have liked to happen is for there to be a better ending for the family. The ending itself was fine, but I would have loved to see this hardworking family's work to finally pay off. For example: The family to get a bigger, more successful restaurant, Genes dream to come true, and Tina to finally get Jimmy Junior. Summed up, fun movie with good references and animation, but lacked in the joke department and an average villain and plot.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Genius Masterpiece
First off I have to say that the setting of the film was brilliant. The brightly coloured house gave an odd, strange feeling to the film. It felt different and unique. The mysterious music slotted right in with the setting of the film. The pacing was very good and each of the characters has their own separate personalities. The main character Edward was brilliantly written, it really showcased the innocence of the character. The plot was simple, yet effective. I have to applaud the make up artist, and costume designer, they both did an amazing job. There was also some humour involved, that have me a good chuckle. Subtle, but effective like a lot of the movie. There are not much downsides. The acting from Johnny Depp was stunning, as well as the ending, which was unique but fitted with the wonderful message I do the movie. Part of the message for me is that the innocent and talented must be protected from the harsh world or they could be shaped into the just a normal average person. Truly a beautiful film, with a beautiful message.
The Simpsons: The Way We Weren't (2004)
Sweet episode
Not exactly a classic and a few jokes miss the mark but overall is is a sweet and mostly funny episode. It is more memorable than your average episode with it showing Homer and Marge getting together as children. I loved how it showed that Homer has heart and although doesn't always act like it, he loves Marge and it is depicted well in this episode. It moved from location to location well and the animation was nice and setting nice and warm too. The ending was very sweet. Marge suspected that Homer just forgot about her and never came back, which seems like something Homer would normally do. But this episode gives him heart, and shows that he thought about Marge every day since. Very sweet and heartwarming. Recommend it if you want a calm, Simpson love story instead of your normal funny, silly episode.
The Simpsons: Simpsorama (2014)
Funny, memorable episode
Although the two shows have its differences, Futurama set it the future, more focused on the plot and a different feel to the Simpson. And Simpsons an old fashioned, smart, well thought out show. But one thing they both share it that they are both, wholesome, fun, and a joy to watch. The plot was interesting and funny and it was hilarious finding out how all this mess happens in the first place. But on to the characters, they blended very well of each other especially Homer and Bender. There was a funny joke about how similar they are to each other. Sure the plot could have been a little better and some of the jokes weren't great, but overall the two shows combined to create a fun, memorable and enjoyable crossover episode, which in the end is what cartoons are all about. Enjoyable and able to make you laugh. Definitely recommend this episode.
Andor: The Eye (2022)
Could feel the danger!
Originally coming into the show I was hesitant knowing that Cassian would survive the whole series. But the show has brought me to be attached to all the other brave characters that help Cassian. The stakes were high and had me leaning foward watching it the whole time. The visuals were fantastic. It felt like a movie! I like how it was not all black and white and that the rebels were not afraid to get their hands dirty as well as the empire. The inclusion of the tribe was a good idea and brought more importance to the 'eye' and also had quite a few funny insults. The acting was great from everyone. I particularly enjoyed the scene when one of the imperials finds out about the rebels taking the others hostage. You could fell the danger and fear. Every gunshot my heart was racing. It also included betrayal, I was shocked to find out that one of the main characters brother was never really killed and it was all just a white lie. Really shows how gritty and real the series is. Also showed that Cassian is no hero himself either. Mon Mothmas scenes were great and made me fell great pity for her. Thank god she joined the rebellion instead and got some appreciation! Again the visuals amazing. Sorry for rumbling on, but it was truly a spectacular episode that felt like a movie. So intense!
The Rescue (2021)
Intense, intriguing and emotional
Absolutely loved This documentary, the build up was great and it was easy to get emotionally attached to the main characters. Very intriguing, I loved how they added live news footage, it makes you feel like you are one of the divers who desperately has to save the children before the water submerges the whole cave. The animation to show the layout of the cave was cool and it is interesting to see what the outlandish plan that they would come up with next. I have researched a little on the rescue a few years ago but I was not sure if the mission was fully successful or not, but this documentary answered my question and has a great amount of detail. I have to salute the cave divers and Thai navy for saving these young boys, as I would never have the courage to cave dive with a high risk of death. The divers are extremely brave and unfortunately one of them sadly passed away during the mission, but I'm sure he would be happy looking down from heaven seeing all these people coming together from all different countries to help these boys and not let his efforts go in vain. Intense, intriguing and emotional documentary.
Blackfish (2013)
Eye opening
Amazing documentary, it shows the shocking truth that most people visiting wouldn't even think about. It does not only talk about the tragic deaths behind the three humans caused by orca, tilikum, but talks about why the orca did this and what tipped it over the edge. It shows the tragic capturing of the orca and talks about the dorsal fin and exposes the lies told by sea world staff. It has a good pace to it and the music fits in well. You can learn so much from this documentary about the harsh environment the orcas suffer in. I implore you to watch this moving documentary. It will likely bring you to tears as it did to I.
Lucifer: Family Dinner (2021)
Should have a higher rating
Love this episode, the family dinner part showcased some great acting from the brothers. I really like gods character so far and how he handles the pressure from his children. You can see Michael trying to appear perfect in front of him, as well as Amenedial. Interesting point from Maze, and Chloe and Luicfers relationship not going very well. The family reunion was certainly the highlight as it really showed off the the characters personality. The music was great and I loved seeing how Linda dealt with all the brothers fighting. Lucifer and Michael brought up some interesting points. For sure an understated episode. Great ending to top it off.
