Jennifer's Body (2009)
An Interesting Take on High School Horror
Reviewing a movie is always going to be difficult as the scores are always the reviewers opinion and not everyone is going to agree.
This is my opinion of 'Jennifer's Body' and therefore cannot be seen as that helpful or not helpful because everyone is different. I will not be writing a plot outline for the film as you can get an in depth analysis elsewhere.
I quite enjoyed the movie and feel that many of the attacks on it are unjustified....some, however, are. The difficult thing about the film is that it is attempting to be different genres at the same time (Horror/Comedy) and it does succeed at both on occasion but drops the ball on others.
If you are a die hard horror fan and love to see blood and guts and gore than this isn't your film. If you think Adam Sandler is still funny than chances are you won't like this either.
I found this movie to be funnier than most comedies of the past (Superbad, Any Jonah Hill film, The Hangover,..etc) and it isn't that funny. As I mentioned in brackets I saw this film on a flight from LA to Sydney and also watched 'The Hangover' and 'Indiana Jones 4' and I found 'Jennifer's Body' to be exceptionally better than them.
If you want to watch a fairly original, unique film that is light on horror with good performances (Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody), a little odd that could have been a cult success with a little tweaking, then this is good. If you want to watch Megan Fox than this is the film...don't watch 'Transformers 2' as that was an accidental comedy.
2012 (2009)
The Biggest Disaster Movie Ever
First of all I would give this movie 7.6 if I could.
Acting = 8: The acting is good for the most part with some giving better performances than others. The little girl acts scared very good and Chiwetel Ejiofor is my top performer.
Storyline = 9: This beats all other disaster movies as it has the almost total destruction of the world with billions possibly killed.
Graphics = 9: The CGI is first rate and watching giant fireballs and waves crashing down along side buildings and cities is fantastic.
Execution = 6.5: Unfortunately the big problem with this film is there is so much going on at once and too many characters piled up that it is hard to feel sympathy for the main characters. Also having children and pets ruins most of these movies because when they are rightfully afraid and screaming or barking (the dogs of course) we have this anger towards them because we are not in that situation, we are only watching a movie and we know it. It also doesn't help that the kids are always annoying. These gigantic films cannot suck us in so we don't feel what they wish for us to feel. When it's over all the viewer asks is "What would I do?"
This movie is far too long at 2 hours 22 minutes and repetitive. Somehow the main characters are involved in almost all catastrophes that occurred and are only 1 metre in front of all road splits and building collapses - why does everything fall down just as they are approaching?
2012 is a great disaster movie with many flaws, but I'm still glad I saw it.
Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)
Extremely good, but could be better
This is the greatest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. I rate it around 9.5 as an overall rating, but a little less for gameplay.
What is right: The graphics are brilliant. The explosions and gunshots. The Wanted Level radius. Vehicle handling. The size of Liberty City. The amount of main story missions. The side activities.
What is wrong: Too many friends. Having to go out with friends all the time to increase their like score. Too many missions that are the same. Too many pigeons; actually 200 too many pigeons. Main missions that shouldn't exist - Bernie's.
So this game does deserve the accolades it receives, unfortunately, the makers think adding more activities to each new game makes it better, but a lot of the activities are useless and waste time you could do completing missions. Bring back the 100 Hidden Packages and get rid of most of the new stuff for GTA5.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
One of the Greatest Shows of All Time
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favourite television series of all time. Is it the greatest show in history? The answer is no, that would probably go to 'The Simpsons'. But 'BtVS' is without a doubt one of the top 10 greatest TV shows of all time and this is a proved fact. This is based on many things including:
*The series rankings on this site and others, including other websites and magazine articles.
*How large the series fanbase is throughout the world.
*How much fan fiction is written about it.
*The wide range of demographics of the viewers.
*The number of novels published.
*The countless books and essays written for publishing and the internet.
*An award named after the show given to other underrated shows.
*Continual development and industry recognition.
*A report detailing the similarities between fighting evil in 'BtVS' and real world terrorism, titled 'Biological Warfare and the 'Buffy Paradigm'.
*And of course 'Buffy Studies' and 'Buffology', University studies on the themes and uses of metaphor and other modules about the show.
Plus it finished six years ago and is still remembered more than most. So you may not like it and that is your opinion. But no one can factually say it is a bad series.
Disaster Movie (2008)
Stupidity Reigns
What is there to say about Disaster Movie. In one word: Pathetic. I rated it one star but really wanted to rate it half or even less. There is no editing team what so ever as the scenes go for way to long. From the intro with Amy, the extremely drawn out 'curve the bullet' skit, the standard two girls fighting bit, (only good if you pause it)through to the end. I'm not sure why it's called Disaster Movie as most of the things they so lamely attempt to spoof have nothing to do with that type of movie.
I did watch the whole thing as I didn't want to comment on it if I had not in case there was something funny at the end...silly, silly me. One thing i would love to know is how they got the budget to make such un-funny crap when the networks are canceling some shows that they think are not rating high enough.
Granted some children might find it funny sometimes, but adults shouldn't. The final question is 'is there anything redeeming about this film'? Yes. It has an ending.
Reno 911!: Miami (2007)
Am I Missing Something?
I have never seen the show, but unfortunately I watched the movie. The funniest part of the whole thing was that it was rated a comedy. How can something this bad be called a comedy...I will admit that I laughed once during the 80+ minutes, but thats it. Apart from maybe missing some in jokes from the show version, there is just nothing to keep non fans of the series watching. I would have to say that this movie is equally as annoying as 'Are We There Yet' and for the cameos they should have had Will Ferrell as he seems to love being in unfunny movies. If your a fan then maybe give it a chance, but if your not don't even bother.
