Genie (2023)
Perfectly cute Christmas movie
I don't know what all these scrooges are talking about, this movie was a perfect, fun, & light Christmas movie! I laughed a bit, teared up & enjoyed it from start to finish. Melissa McCarthy was her usual funny self & though I wish the main character wished for a boat load of money.. all he wanted was his family for Christmas... aaawwwe. It was adorable & it will definitely be added to my Christmas movie rotation!
Get your Christmas snacks & start your movie marathon & start with this one! Christmas movies are supposed to be fun, light & come with a little lesson, so Genie is perfect.
123456 .. minimum character limit met. WATCH THE MOVIE.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
I laughed out loud several times & it's been a while since that has happened
As the title says, I haven't laughed this hard at a new comedy in a long time. There were a few scenes that seemed a little slow but besides that it was a perfect silly comedy. I definitely fell into the "I hate Jennifer Lawrence for no reason" camp a few years ago (the reason is misogyny) & thankfully I got over that. She was hilarious in this movie.
It was a little stressful that the person she was, DATING, was 19 but it turned out well and didn't come off creepy.
There was a bit of a rom com vibe but in the end it was just a comedy and a perfect one at that. Or maybe the romance was between the two main characters finding love for themselves.
10/10 recommend. If I give more than a breathy "ha" several times it's a win for me. And there was full on laughs several times all throughout the theatre.
Rain Dogs (2023)
Everyone needs to watch this show
Rain dogs is amazing! It's beautiful & heartbreaking. The depiction of mental health, toxic relationships, trauma, addiction, motherhood & love are spot on. (For some circumstances, everyone is different) I'm sure it adds to a few stereotypes but I'm still in love.
Selbey & Costellos relationship is devastating but I also can't help routing for them. Despite the toxicity between the two of them you can't help but hope they will heal & just love each other.
I love that the main relationship is a friendship rather than a romantic relationship.
It made me angry, laugh, cry & everything in between. I hope there is a season two & I hope they dive more into Selbeys healing as well as Costello.
A League of Their Own (2022)
One of the best shows of 2022. Maybe one of the best show of the 2000's.
I came across this show through a best of 2022 list & as soon I saw Abbi Jacobson I knew it was going to be great.
Within the first few minutes of episode one I was hooked. The entire cast is hilarious and captivating.
My partner shared that they loved the original movie as a kid but I had never seen it. However we both played baseball and we are both queer which made the show that much more special.
This show would have been fine without the history & struggles of queer & black folks but that layer of truth brought it to a whole new level of greatness. Not only was it extremely entertaining, we got to learn about pieces of our own history as well as others history along the way.
I was worried it was going to more trauma porn than a story about queer folks, as lots of lgbtq shows seem to be but it was the perfect balance. It is important to tell the stories of queer & black folks but it is also important that today in 2022 we see happy representations of ourselves too. People are more than just the struggle they overcame. We are all fully rounded human beings with love, laughter, heartache, pain and more!
This show is meaningful but you will also laugh and fall in love with the whole cast a long the way. I cannot wait for season 2. I don't think season 2 is confirmed yet but I'll speak it into existence right here. Give us season 2!
Russian Doll (2019)
The low reviews are hilarious
10/10 would recommend. All the negative reviews said either "it's Groundhog Day" Or "these single review accounts are sus" babes some of us aren't 65 & haven't watched ground hog day every year since 1993. It's time for a fresh take & you gotta start somewhere love. Everyone starts with one review. I usually see a lot of hate from men on women led shows/movies so take that into account before to judge by negative reviews.
Anywho the show, I laughed, I felt sad, I watched the it all in one night, I cheered for romantic plot lines, I felt bad for characters, the list goes on and on. Drugs, sex, trauma, romance, queer relationships (side characters but still), a mystical time loop, death, laughs & touching moments. All with a killer cast, if you dislike that, your life's boring & you probably hate your wife. Watch it!!!
Wolf Like Me (2022)
10/10
10/10 would recommend. Funny, touching and a little bit spooky. And to top it off a fat dad that, despite not knowing how to handle his daughters mental illness, isn't a total bumbling idiot, there's real romance, and as mentioned a decent portrayal of mental illness and grief. Love to see fat characters represented more then just the butt of the joke.
