Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
Slightly disappointed
I was so so hyped for the epic conclusion of season 4. After reading so many interesting fan theories, I was excited for all the possibilities of this episode. I hate to say it, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it was still a great episode overall. But there was no twist or anything of shock value as I expected. Also was taken aback by the cut to two days later after the battle with Vecna.. Literally, the upside down world is going to start leaking into Hawkins and they end the episode with the characters chatting away and seeming hopeful like something insanely terrible didn't just happen?? We, the fans, deserved more.
Stranger Things (2016)
Lives up to the hype
The haters need to calm down! They only wanna hate this show because it's popular. You can like mainstream things without being basic.
I think each season shows the continued growth and maturity the characters develop. Season 4 wasn't full of as much goofiness as past seasons. It has more of a dark, serious adult tone and I can appreciate that effort from the writers. The script has emotion without being cheesy. It bounces around from story to story but it's easy to follow and it pays off in the end when the dots all connect. The score and cinematography are top notch as well.
Overall, this is truly a standout series. Worth the watch and worth all the hype.
Black Bear (2020)
Haters just didn't understand
First of all, this is not supposed to be a comedy, people!! All the reviews that say "this isn't funny" or whatever are irrelevant.
I had seen the preview for this movie a while back and thought it looked interesting. Completely different from what I was expecting, but in a good way. Aubrey Plaza is a goddess. Her performance is seriously award worthy!! I found myself engrossed in the story trying to figure out what is what. It's one of those films that you are left thinking about at the end. Trying to gather perspective and doing Google searches to see what other people interpreted from it. It's beautifully shot as well and doesn't have to try too hard.
Go into it with an open mind. Like you're starting a new book for the first time. It's well worth it.
Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021)
This one's for the weirdos
What a strange trip this show is. Goes from zero to 100 real quick. A limited series about a girl in 90's LA who wants to get her movie made. Willing to take down anyone that stands in her way. She meets a strange, cat loving, witchy woman who says she can help give her what she wants. Sounds basic, right? The storyline has been done before, sure, but not like this. If your into weird, gory, somewhat dark material than you might enjoy this. I was skeptical at first. Didn't take too long to find myself hooked! The ending wasn't spectacular, but it worked for me. Give this out of the box show a try if you're a weirdo like me.
Evil (2019)
Not for everyone
There is nothing else quite like this show on tv right now. I think most people will either really like it or hate it. It's a bit off-beat and all over the place and half the time I'm like "Wtf was going on?" But I think that's the beauty of it. Since it became a Paramount Plus exclusive with season 2, it seems they were able to branch out creatively. If you're an open minded person, you might actually enjoy this non-conventional series.
Love (2016)
Realistic love rollercoaster
I have watched this show from start to finish at least 3 different times. I wish this Judd Apatow series had more seasons!!
A story about loves up and downs. How life doesn't just go from point A to point B. The dialog can be awkward and situations can be cringy, but that's what makes this show so great! It's raw and real relatable. While also being so funny and witty.
Ps why are there so many reviews on here about appearance?? If you are watching things based on how people look, maybe you should take your upturned nose and glass of Rosé and switch your tv to something more your speed such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians or The Bachelor.
