Spirited (2022)
BRILLIANT!! So much fun, so well done.
NOT a movie for kids. Let's start there, lol
Spirited is a fun fun fun Christmas movie. Wholly unexpected, totally amazing. I was prepared for cheese, got strikingly well done comedy and dancing and acting and song writing.
Ryan and Will feed off each other perfectly. While clearly not musical performers, they did a good job. Octavia was lovely. All of the actors, really - just so well done.
I was thrilled by the level of musicality. The choreography was STUNNING.
I don't know who or what happened to make this Christmas Miracle happen, but I hope they do more fantastic projects in the future.
Nope (2022)
I had trouble staying awake.
Sorry to say I am going to have to give Mr. Peele movies a pass much like I do Wes Anderson and M. Knight films. They look so interesting in the trailers but the movies are deeply mired in their own desperate need to be 'different' or have SHOCKING TWISTS (though to be fair I did like 'Us').
Two stars for having one clever aspect I won't reveal but -8 stars for zero plot development and bizarro plot tangents that had nothing to do with the story (adding way too much time to an already boring movie) on top of almost no character development/characters who literally could have died and no one would have cared.
Really interesting premise that died spectacularly and went to 'am I being clever enough??' hell.
Sidekicks (1992)
Cheesy, frequently culturally offensive 90s blather
About what one would expect for a Chuck Norris movie aimed at kids written directed by another Norris...self-aggrandizing, 'isn't Chuck just the coolest, bestest guy ever!' time wasting. Bad enough to have been an 80s movie. Plenty of Asian stereotyping and Joe Piscapo SERIOUSLY over-hamming it up so if that's your thing, give it a watch.
Only reason I gave it 3 stars is because I like Mako and a number of friends worked on it. A paycheck is a paycheck!
H. H. Holmes: Original Evil (2018)
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
From the nauseating background 'music' to the headache inducing, ceaseless, random stock footage; this piece of garbage is pretty much what you'd get if a first year film student using a video toaster and Ed Wood collaborated on a project to narrate wikipedia.
