The Job Lot (2013–2015)
10/10
Excellent idea
22 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I love this and its so true to me as i worked in a Job Centre for 3 years. (I actually had an idea and a rough script that i wrote myself).

Set in a Midlands Job Centre its spans a typical day with clients coming in and out all day. Crisis riddled staff with Angela working to rule after winning a tribunal against the manager Trish. Dannielle has just come back from maternity leave (and is one good reason to watch the programme - wish she worked where i did lol), Karl who has lost the will to live who walks out only to return when the placement girl the first episode. Mad security guards where one is running a painting & decorating company on the side. Client are the varied and the excuses for not finding work are flowing thick. Its certainly worth a watch.

The Wright Way (I) (2013)
7/10
Most hate it, i think its great
22 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is getting a 7 because of the scripts - which i will come to later.

Most have panned this as rubbish but i like it. Great idea of Health & Safety office in a council as its not been done and there's always a daft story about a council somewhere in the UK doing something completely stupid. This ridicules it.

Gearld Wright is the head of the H&S team which is a ram-shackled collection of different personalities (ill leave that to surprise) and has a habit of using a million words to describe something where ten would do. They are constantly looking into the H&S of daft things, last episode i watched was about pins in the packaging of shirts...

His home life isn't much better than work with his ex wife showing up with her Adonis of a new boyfriend, daughter Susan moving in her girlfriend who has trouble speaking English....

Its a laugh in my opinion (and I'm going to get rated down for that) The humour is obvious and, OK it might be a laughter track, is funny with laughs in the right place unlike modern comedies where you have to look for the humour (read my review on Cuckoo). Ben Eltons scripts do contain a lot of his stand up shows but it is funny. Only thing i would have done different is made the daughter and her girlfriend as sisters as they are different personalities where adding in boyfriends would give it another route for comedy.

I said ignore the critics and watch it for yourself..

This is a comedy????
13 November 2012
If this is a comedy and the comedy of the future GOD HELP US!! I watched this as i like Greg Davies in stand up, Mock the Week and Inbetweeners and gave this a go. 5 episodes in and I'm still waiting for something to be funny. Cuckoo is someone i would happily chuck from a 4 storey building and then disown my daughter for wasting her gap year a, in the USA and b, marrying this idiot and bringing him back to the UK let alone home.

Comedies nowadays are making the actual comedy hard to find with this straight lace genre they are producing. Sod that and go back to writing proper situations and gags for the actors to do and the audience to laugh at.

If it gets a second series - well there is no hope for anyone.

I think its great
27 October 2012
Some put this down as unfunny and even racist. I don't i think its great and shows that people of Islam can have fun as much as anyone else.

You do have to look for the jokes sometimes and the humour can be questionable but it is a lot of fun and thank you BBC that there will be a second series.

This is the sort of comedy that needs to be made, this and Mrs Browns Boys have shown people in a new friendly light and broken down barriers where as they show called Cuckoo doesn't deserve the category "comedy" Those who are offended - get a life and stop being offended on someone else's behalf.

Arctic Blast (2010)
I disagree.
27 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Im giving it a 5 as I'm only half way through.

I saw this on SciFi and thought id give it a go. Then realised its Australian. OK how can it be an Arctic Blast in Australia? I looked over this and got into it; Im not up on the science but it was interesting. I doubt they would make a public announcement and have panic buying everything - then again that just looked like the average Saturday morning in Sainsburys.

I am impressed about one thing. It isn't totally American, the event isn't exclusively to America and America isn't trying to solve the problem. That is what is wrong with Day After Tomorrow Ie. too American and not affecting anything around it. This film does have that theme, but there is nothing around Tasmania on three sides.

I like it.

Titanic II (2010 Video)

Great idea but could have done better
21 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I waited with excitement to watch this on Syfy channel last Sunday (Aug 15th) Wow Titanic 2, what could go wrong? Then I saw the film company making it. OK maybe this will be better.

No

OK the plot isn't too bad I thought, new version of Titanic (even though I doubt international shipping would allow another ship bear the name Titanic) and its modern but designed like the original. Yeah good idea. Thats about all the good I can say. The mega tsunami caused by a chunk of ice?? This was just a chunk that broke off and not the entire Greenland Ice Sheet! The life boats looked like submarines that were launched from a compartment like a missile - What the hell was that about? The entire crew and passengers all vanished and no one cared anymore about them apart from our lead characters, and these I'm sure have never read an emergency manual. The ship is flooding and power could go so lets use an elevator. Lets hide in a closet which is guaranteed to get jammed. The CGI I must comment on. It looked like it was put together on an Atari ST - Beginning to wonder if Asylum Pictures are a couple of students spending their overdrafts making these films.

Sorry to rubbish peoples hard work, but please return to the drawing board. And a note to Mr Bruce Davidson - please don't sign up for these low budget films.

MegaFault (2009 TV Movie)

Wherever the deleted scenes are - PLEASE PUT THEM BACK IN!!!!
14 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I hate rubbishing peoples work. But.... This film looks great on the packaging, sounds like a great idea - A Mega Fault to rip the world apart. Now, lets get one definition out the way "World - anywhere within the USA" Explosions set off a seismic event triggering earthquakes big enough to rip a gash in the USA. No one else in the world feels it at all; this gap can be seen from space and the rest of the world carry on like nothing happening? Repetition of scenes - I watched it and thought "hang on, I've just seen that". I blinked once and missed the plot, blinked again and missed any form of character development. Didn't have a clue who they were (only the old bloke being in V back in the 80's) didn't know what they were doing and why. There was no effects on how this event changed the rest of the world, er sorry, USA and no sign of a president.

I don't think I'll include this on the Wet Sunday list and I beg of all of you who do watch this, Don't make it an impression you have of the late Brittney Murphys work.

The A-Team (2010)
10/10
Fantastic
2 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Never think this will be like the TV series - Its everything the TV Series SHOULD have been. You know the characters and what they did. This was set more up to date with the Gulf War rather than Vietnam and the original plot for why they were sent to prison was changed. For the better.... In this we also see how they all first met.

Im not going to bang on about the plot but there are many twist and turns in every direction, you never know who is on who's side nor whats going to happen next. There is a lot more drama, plotting and warfare without, I'm very glad to say, Cabbages. The script and cast were fantastic in this film that I had the expectation of being a let down.

Looking forward to the Blu Ray of it.

OK I would have made it different.
2 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this recently on DVD and though yeah it was an OK movie. When I thought about it, I could have made it so much different.

Sorry there are spoilers.

1, I would have taken out the back story completely. I wouldn't have shown her family being murdered as this give away the rest of the film.

2, I would have upped the character development, explained a few more things and made it less obvious who the lead was. Put in a bit more with the Blonde in the black dress - made her a say a indirect accomplice or even made her into more of a bitch than she was.

3, When the killer is at the hotel, I would have made it so he had an infatuation with more than one of the girls and you never know which was the primary target.

4, I would have put in where one of the others got killed, the leading lady would find him/her and they say who the killer is and then the back story revealed.

Thats what I would have done different. All in all, its a good film to watch and definitely on the wet Sunday afternoon list.

sorry spoilers! I liked it
22 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this today in an empty cinema - OK it was 9am showing in snowy Surrey - and i thought it was very good.

The plot was easy to follow. The acting and script were good and the ideas new and original for a sequel.

The girls are looking for the Frittons missing treasure that also Lord Pomfrey is looking for over a disputed ownership 400 odd years ago. A Simple plot with a lot of adventure, humour and thrill of the chase, Plenty of twists and turns. This isn't as some have described it as a Sarah Harding Show as she was more or less in the background most of the time with probably no more than a page of script.

Only down points. 1, couldn't keep the same cast as the first but then again its a school so pupils always leave and join. 2, (sorry spoiler) not enough of Gemma Arterton.

The start of the film with the mini is slightly predictable but hilarious all the same.

Watch it. I say its for any age.

A Christmas Carol (2000 TV Movie)
10/10
Amazing This version is a must!!!
11 December 2009
This version of A Christmas Carol is now a tradition - I cant stop watching it and it never grows boring.

Its a modern 21st century version of the story we know and love with Ross Kemp playing Edward (Eddie) Scrooge who, of course, is a money lender/loan shark who squeezes everything he can out of his poor clients.

Christmas eve night he gets the visit from Marley - His recently murdered business partner who announces the spirits. After each spirit, Eddie relives Christmas Eve in a chance to get it right.

He eventually does, meets up with his lost love and they have a son who is familiar to Eddie.

Its brilliantly written, directed and Ross Kemp is fantastic as Eddie Scrooge, certainly in the top 3 Scrooges of all time. Its on ITV3 during Christmas 2009 - catch it, its worth it.

I loved it. Its not for the serious movie goer
7 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this in 3D at the cinema and loved it. OK, its never going to happen and totally ridiculous but who cares, its fun. Guinea Pig secret agents have to stop a company infiltrating the world with ordinary electrical appliances with explosive chips in them - yeah can happen anywhere. Its a definite on my Feel Good List as I watch this whenever I'm feeling down and it cheers me up. Its definitely not for movie goers who take films seriously and judge if they can really happen. It is seriously worth viewing at Christmas time with the family as I'm sure the kids will love it and will want the toy guinea pigs that have just come out.

amazing
19 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Watched this version of the film today and I was surprised and totally amazing. Its brilliant. I was expecting something like English accents and a bad take on the book and previous films but I was so so wrong. We know the story so I don't have to explain it. Jim Carrey's voice character of Scrooge was fantastic, he sounded so convincing I swear at one point it was the voice of the late Alastair Sim. - I didn't realise that he did other voices as well. The film is consistent to the book and the 1951 version although I noticed some lines put in and a few bits left out but it doesn't matter. It worked so well. I say this is a must for all fans of the story - Its definitely on my DVD list.

While its in the cinema GO AND SEE IT!!!! 3D is best.

typical American disaster movie
17 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
4 and its only getting that for the special effects and the Russian girl.

The film started at 12:30 and I nearly walked out because of the cheese at 1:45. As with most disaster films that threaten the world, this one is right out of the rule book and only happens in America. Turns out the Mayan civilisation many years ago worked out the world would end because of a solar flare. The same solar flare disrupts the workings of the earth and the crust moves about a bit. Great special effects. Typical divorced family unit where the father forgets everything and they get back together at the end when the mothers boyfriend is killed (wont say how as it will spoil it) So with the earth now moving about a bit, the north pole ends up where I wonder? oh yeah Wisconsin right slap bang in the middle of the US as these things only happen to the US. Getting to the bit where I nearly left; the president sits down in the white house (or whats left of it) saying "my fellow Americans this is the most catastrophic event to happen to our nation" Right what about the rest of the world? Are we all lying in the sun having a smoke and a beer? I was actually expecting this after watching other of Mr Emmerich's creations and he delivered. Disaster movie, only affecting the USA, minor glimpses of the rest of the world, might end up somewhere that we don't see. If this does happen, I'm booking my holiday (vacation) on the US/Mexico border for Christmas 2012

Amazing
18 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on the big screen and was encapsulated with it. The period of Queen Victoria's younger years are a mystery and this is a perfect description of how a young girl was thrusted into one of the highest roles in the world.

The script is perfect, the acting is amazing, the history and attention to detail is out of this world. Emily Blunt is perfect as Victoria. Funny how her mother is played by Elizabeth the 1st and William IV is played by Prince Albert! (Think Blackadder).

This portrayal of Victoria shows that she was a rebellious young woman once - I'm sure she would have been on Jeremey Kyle Show if it had been around then: "My mother and her boyfriend are trying to steal my life".

A Perfect piece of a major part of British and Commonwealth history.

This Rocks - See it!!!!
7 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I'm writing this an hour after just seeing it and my god what a film. This film ROCKS!!!!!

It had the cinema in stitches, the story and plot were there (unlike in a popular film thats just been released on DVD) characters believable and likable - even the ones who do wrong.

I'm not going to spoil this for anyone by saying what happens, OK its a pirate radio station in the time when they were about and music radio was next to nothing on the legal wavelengths. I say WATCH IT!!!!

2 hours of quality film entertainment!!!!! Roll on when the DVD is out, its on my list already.

This is an 11 out of 10, Oscar & BAFTA time definitely.

What the hell is going on?
27 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I've bought this on DVD and I'm glad I have. The only reason I'm glad is that I can watch it again and again and see if I can find the plot anywhere. Watched it twice so far and still can't work out whats going on. The credits rolled and I thought: "Is that it?" 97 minutes were on the clock of the DVD Player.

This is a continuation of Casino Royale and I'm not sure how to describe the film. It starts in Italy, goes to Haiti and then Bolivia. Some bloke is after oil or water? I'm still confused. If you like action without dialogue, you got it. I'm sure the total script wouldn't cover two sides of A4 paper.

The title song, I'm sorry to say, has to be one of the worst and has no relation to the film or a mood connection either.

This isn't the best and not the worst. Please lets have something better next time, keep it to the 2 hour mark and please lets have a plot and dialogue.

Too much rabbit!!!!
12 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is going to get a 2 as it kept the intelligence round (where you have to build a puzzle) I was looking forward to the relaunch of KP; loved watching it on Challenge every morning. That was at 7:29pm. By 7:32pm I wish i had never tuned in. The cube? What the hell is that all about??? Talking to the contestants???? eh? The assault course looks more like something at a kids adventure playground and cameras on helmets???, talking to them about the course??? (Typical response: I found that obstacle difficult as my trousers for filled with muddy water - WE Don't CARE JUST RUN IT!!!!!!!) I always got the impression that the original show was about peoples mental and physical agility in a way the army would train people; you don't get a Sergeant Major asking a private how he felt about it????

This is a very watered down version and I would be most surprised if it got a second run; just as surprised as I was when i tuned in just last Sunday (March 8th) and it was the final!!!

Please, go back to the old way, no rabbit after every round, a decent presenter and bring back the FLIGHT SIMULATOR!!!!

what a waste of time.
12 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on Wednesday 11th March and thought great. I loved the original show.

That was at 12:47pm By 1:13pm I had lost the will to watch it (along with the will to live). The format is pretty much the same as the original with Henry Kelly without the foreign contestants (guests) nor the first eliminator round. The first round Beat the Buzzer was OK with the traditional format and then at 12:56pm the host announced the break - OK a bit quick for a British TV game show. The next 4 minutes were wasted with some charming young lady announcing the viewers game; with a question a 3 year old could answer. The break and then back for another 4 minutes of the viewers game question and then continue round 1

Round 2 4 in a row - again pretty much the same as before with another break, half way through the round, for the viewers question where the hostess repeats herself more times than Jive Bunny.

The final round - similar to the original but no points target this time. The competition finished at 1:35pm. Hang On!!! there's 10 minutes left and yep, you got it, the viewers question which was another very simple one to answer and thats without the hostess giving it away.

This show has been taken down, mucked about and ruined. Basically. I couldn't even bring myself to re-tune for the Going For Gold Extra.

Whoever thought this up needs their P45 sent to them very very quickly

can i have the 74 minutes of my life back please?
25 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I bought this on DVD and thought Why not? Now I wish I could turn back the clock and not bother. I don't like rubbishing peoples hard work but this is the pits. Its 74 minutes long and its a case of blink and you'll miss the plot. I would put something here about the plot but i never saw it.

Its meant to be a satirical view on War of the Worlds and Saw and maybe some others. I got confused about 10 minutes in and when I hoped the plot would turn up, the credits roll.

If you're a fan of the films (I was of the first one) take a look and you'll enjoy, me personally, I want a refund.

This is better than number 2
21 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
When i saw this released i thought this would be a third instalments with the same characters, pranks and situations. I asked "how can they do a third? hes been left at home (hence the title) and got on the wrong plane, what else could these parents do?"

Then i watched it and saw it was totally new characters. This is good. New plot, new situation. Alex is at home unwell and a group of international terrorists have lost a chip they were trying to smuggle out. Now these people look professional and have a "don't mess with us" attitude to begin with until they encounter Alex. Alex is 9 years old and has a wild imagination. He sees the gang breaking into peoples houses looking for the chip and naturally he calls the police. Nothing is found, no one believes him. He takes it on himself to prove that he is telling the truth.

I wont say anymore as this movie is fun. Forget the first two when you watch it and you'll enjoy it.

This wasn't that bad
14 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I disagree with what people say about this film. I thought it was quite good. I heard that it had a plot held together with sticky tape and the only good thing was Jessica Simpson wearing very little. Now the plot wasn't bad, the action in it was good and, to be honest, there wasn't a lot of Jessica wearing very little (which i have to say i was disappointed at). All in all the plot was a good idea, Boss Hog wanted to turn the county into a coal mine so he organised a race on the day of the enquiry (Scottish Transport Dept - Note this is how you can get the M74 built lol). The Duke cousins take action to stop him and, well I'm not going to spoil it too much.

Its a film that can be put on the "Raining Sunday Afternoon" list.

This is worth an 11
24 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I first rented this back in 2004 and thought id give it a go. Now, in 2008, I'm hooked on the story.

This is based on a true story of Frank Abagnale, who became one of Americas daring con men. The story is addictive. He gets up to all sorts posing in a variety of different professions to get by and escape the authorities who are after him as he keeps forging cheques (checks). The antics he gets up to are astonishing as i think many people wouldn't have the nerve to do them - This has taught me a lot about cheque fraud and counterfeiting.

Grab this and the book of the same name. Its amazing in what a young man will do to survive.

its different. not sure still if it works
13 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on TV and thought: Yeah its alright. Then I looked deeper into it. The story is pretty much as the book and the 1974 film. Horrible man gets bumped off during the night. Differences are this is set in 2001 instead of 1934. Bringing Poirot and technology together is a worse move than bringing mankind and dinosaurs together. Poirot using a VCR? A Laptop computer? Falling for a beautiful woman? Come on please??? this is Hercule Poirot not James Bond.

Characters are missing - I wont list them as it spoils it. The technology as I mentioned and an EWS loco pulling it??? where does this train run from? Birmingham to Bristol? EWS stands for English, Welsh and Scottish Railways Ltd and is a freight carrier.

I will add, although its nothing as the great Dame Agatha envisaged, its worth a watch on a wet Sunday afternoon even just out of pure curiosity for die hard Poirot fans.
