Queenpins (2021)
Surprises feel better than expectations
I want expecting too much from this movie. The story sounded interesting but I wasn't aware of the full cast. The story was paced and predictable until the characters of Vince Vaughn and Paul Hauser get together. The chemistry between Kristen Bell and Kirby was excellent, but the chemistry between Vaughn and Hauser was comedy gold! GOLD!! I cannot recall having laughed that hard in a while. The stakeout scene alone was enough to leave me on my knees with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. I believe there is a future with these two characters if they wanted to exploit it. The rest of the story went somewhat as expected and was very entertaining.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
A comedy for the ages
I'm sorry. Did someone mislabel this film genre. My wife and I were hysterical laughing at the absurdity of this entire piece of theatre. First, let's take three fantastic actors and have them talk in the most stilted dialogue you can imagine. Think about how great these actors have to be at their craft when they need to unlearn everything they've ever known about acting and have basically a chat robotb that contains the dialogue injected into their brains. Then we'll sprinkle a bit of Stephen King's Thinner until it but putting what basically amounts to a gypsy curse on the family.*slow clap* Bravo good sirs, bravo.
Motherland (2016)
Chaos, calamity, hysterical
I was drawn to this show when I heard Sharon Horgan was involved in the writing. I loved her style from Bad Sisters and Catastrophe, and I also enjoyed Diane Morgan from Cunk on Earth. Right from the start, I was laughing at all the chaos that the characters ended, and the British style of dealing with it all. I don't think this would be as enjoyable using American characters. Nearly every episode features at least one scene that causes me to practically scream with hysterical laughter and sends me into a giggling frenzy thinking about it afterwards. Each character brings a brilliant performance to the scenes. I selfishly want more!!
Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas (2021)
Jane Levy gets to cut loose!
I assumed watching the first two seasons that they cast Jane Levy as the lead because she was good for the part, but also because she wasn't as strong of a dancer. Boy was i wrong! The creators missed the boat forcing Jane to basically watch everyone else sing and dance, because when she finally got to shake her thing for the camera, my wife and I were completely entertained. We loved Zoey's aggressive, angry holiday jingles! Sadly there were only about two in this episode. We demand you give the power to Mary Steenburgen, who is a great actor, but a very poor singer/dancer for this show. This way she can watch while Zoey does her attack dancing!
WE WANT MORE ZOERY DANCE MOMENTS!
Invasion (2021)
Overcomplicating Simple Premise?
I enjoyed the characters, but the story just didn't seem to go anywhere. The climax was not very obvious. I was very interested in the small town sheriff story begun in the first episode but it was never revisited. The rest of the series focused on the soldier, the boy, the JASA employee, and the family.
Castle Rock: The Laughing Place (2019)
This changed the entire season around
Awesome origin story!
I was only half interested in the season up to this episode. After watching this, it felt like it was written and directed completely different than the previous four episodes. Once the credits rolled I said, "Damn! It is ON!"
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Great story, average execution
The acting was inconsistent, almost corny. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it didn't feel right considering the tone of the subject matter. Still worth watching.
Luke Cage (2016)
From methodical to ssssllloooowwwwee
I am struggling to finish the second season. The first season was slow but rewarding with decent acting. This season has been painfully dull and slow.
Silicon Valley: Signaling Risk (2014)
Hit on all cylinders this episode
It had me laughing so hard through the episode that I had to stop the show because I almost vomited and could not breathe. THAT is comedy gold! Definitely the funniest episode so far this season. I almost woke up my fiancee the next morning when random bits of the episode went through my head.
First Man (2018)
Be prepared
I watched the movie in IMAX which helped make the presentation very intense. This is the kind of movie that can feel suffocating and doesn't let up until the credits. Even though you knew how the movie would end, it still was very nerve wracking to see all the stuff these astronauts had to go through to accomplish the mission.
The moon scenes in IMAX were spectacular and emotional because of how intense the build up to it was. At the very least all school children should be shown all the trials it took to get to the moon to inspire them to continue to push the space program farther.
Red Sparrow (2018)
Twisted up the book
The book should have been just fine as a movie but they butchered up the screenplay, mixing plots and characters. Sad.
Insatiable (2018)
I dislike every character
After just one episode, I hate every character. They are all corrupted by severe personality flaws. And what is the deal with all the casual underaged drinking? They had one character who was in high school buying beer casually at a convenience store like it was normal.
