Gokseong (2016)
Just Watched for the First Time and...
Like I stated above this was my first time watching this movie (I ended up have to break it up into 2 parts because I started it at 1 AM not realizing it was 2.5 hours long). I was honestly low key happy I did this because I stopped with 40 minutes to go and boy were those last 40 minutes an amazing ride. The entire movie is just perfect. It can be a little slow at times, but that's because it is just continuously building upon itself with a sense of dread only matched in recent years by Hereditary (which I still think The Wailing is it's own film and superior to Hereditary). I personally love gritty, violent films (especially if they're Korean) and this is definitely one of those. It is not an over the top, in your face violence (though there is that at times littered throughout the movie), it is mainly just the after math of the violence. Nonetheless, this will go down as a cult classic for years to come and is most definitely in my top 5 all time favorite movies!

Great Movie Overall
I loved this movie overall. The tone it sets from the beginning and the ambiguity of the plot is what kept me glued to the tv for *almost* this entire movie. I say almost because I found myself, towards the end, getting ready for it to conclude. The last 15 minutes of the movie feel like 30, but I am also more than likely partial because I expected a big fight scene/shoot out "Ballerina-esque" type ending and that is simply just not this movie. There is violence and action, but it is few and far between. The ending is beautiful and very well acted, I just went into it with the wrong mindset. I would 100% recommend this movie have added it to increasingly growing list of amazing Korean cinema to come out the last 25-30+ years.
